They do get accounts legally, but some also get accounts trough theft.

Paying with stolen cc info, or by stealing accounts from players.

By the time theres a chargeback on the cc, they already have done the neccesary spamming and farming.

It's unbelievable that those that stoop to theft actually get away with it for as long as they do.

    Did not thought of that...

Wouldn't be impossible if the MMORPG companies are behind the gold selling. Really, how much more of a profit would they get from it considering all the people that buy the stuff, and it's easy contacting some chinese company underground to do the dirty task for them without getting noticed, just like buying bulks of drugs from there. Just that there's no need to worry about the customs, ofc.

The fact that they don't do something about it makes me suspicious, but it could be that it's not that easy to rid them and the companies pretty much given up.

ESS O ESS. O ESS O. OR ESS? Bah, fuck it, just call 911.

They're job is made so much easier because people are so dumb.  Honestly.

The gold sellers have plenty of accounts because they steal them from really stupid people.  The latest scam was so simple, yet so effective.  They merely link to a site that looks like the Aion site and has a similar name.  If you go to the site it tells you how wonderful the Aion launch was and that NcSoft is giving away free stuff and all YOU have to do is sign in.

    Sign in.  Duh.

These spammers are smart, they take advantage of several opportunities that are, in part, NcSoft's fault.  To claim your in-game collectors edition freebies, for instance, you go to the NcSoft site and enter your userid and password and then assign the gifts to your character.

EXACTLY the same way that this site was asking people to claim their 'gifts'.

The other and most obvious problem is a total lack of any moderation at ALL on the servers.  Yes, I've seen the posts where a GM comes in with the ban hammer.  I've seen exactly ONE example of that.

Last night on Lumiel there were repeated (automatic) warnings about these sites.  A GM even logged on and made this announcement about how he was sitting down and making slurping noises.  We all thought, "well this should be good" and waited.

nothing.  and after that, more nothing.

I assumed they were in the background banning away, but when I logged onto my alt, the EXACT same names that I had blocked earlier in the evening on my main were STILL in channel and spamming away.

Which brings us to the big question.  Can NcSoft not afford one miserable GM to sit and watch chat for a couple of hours each night and ban every person spamming for gold/powerleveling services?  I don't mind blocking as a temporary fix, but my block file is just about full.  Instead of having 4000+ people have to block the spammers why not just have ONE NcSoft employee do the job?

I know, you ban them and they come back.  That does not mean you don't ban the accounts when you see them.  it's not brain surgery, it's just a freakin' game server...

Exactly. The amount of cc fraud is ridiculous. Buying game currency means dealing with people that already know what they are doing is against the game's rules. They don't care. They couldn't care less about the game and they couldn't care less about their 'customers', specifically the ones they think are a one-time purchase. The guy that buys a few hundred dollars worth of stuff is at LESS risk than the guy that does a one-time purchase of a few dollars of game currency. They know the former is spending hundreds more, and they know the latter probably has lots of room on their card for plenty of fraudulent charges.

To be clear, I am not talking about legitimate dev-run sales like item malls and services.

I am talking specifically about the 3rd party RMT market which is riddled with criminal activity ranging from trojans/keyloggers to account hacking to credit card fraud.

And how many people do you know that have Static IPs?  They cost extra and there's no need for a gold seller to have one.

Banning an IP means nothing these days.  Any private address is Dynamic, and even then I'm sure they know how to use Proxy Servers.  It's pretty easy to reroute your internet connection and mask your IP address before connecting to a server.
