Like many others, MMORPG.com Correspondent Dana O'Shea recently started playing NCsoft's Aion. In this article, he describes his early experiences in the game as a player from "Down Under."
The biggest thing about this game's hype is the flight. It is said to be the best implementation of fight added to an MMOPRG so far. It's not long into the game before you get to experience this but I have spent my gaming time with Aion exploring the early parts of character construction, and just exploring the world.
As an Oceanic player I am very grateful that NC Soft had decided to assign a server to just us Aussies. At release it is just a West Coast server but I am told it will later be adjusted to our time. This makes a bigger difference than some people might realise. For a start, an MMO that has maintenance at times convenient for US players means that Oceanic players lose some of their peak playing time (I am assuming they will adjust maintenance as well). The dream for many of us is that one day we will have local servers to cut down latency troubles but, as conciliation, at least if all of us on the server are Oceanic-based and suffering the same lag, then no-one really has an advantage.

I'm playing Elyos and because I like everything, I play all 8 classes. I'd be interested in hearing your opinion once you reach your teens.
" So this is one that has had a lot of hype to justify and in my opinion it does live up to my expectations! An awesome MMORPG."
Not to flame this game or what, but In all fairness, you just started!
I dont believe they will make the maint time diff from the US servers for the oceanic server, because you will have huge influx of players logging in and make the queue much much worst. Unless they lock the server, preventing it from new charc creation...

Where in the world have you been? No one with any knowledge of the genre would ever say that!
Try Perfect World, it's flight mode blows away anything Aion has. Not extolling the virtues of Perfect World it has it's issues, but they did flight right.
Yep, Aion fanbois are woefully ignorant and many are still in the new game/Honeymoon period. Just waitl
Hell, I'll talk flight in AO over flight in Aion.
Actually, I've heard a lot of people say that.
There is a lot of cool flying combat in this game. I think it's too soon to judge ... And I think you're WAY too condescending in your tone, internet bully!

Played - UO, FFXI, WAR, WoW, EVE
Currently - Bored.
My problem with flight in Aion is the flight timer and waiting for it to recharge. That and the control just isn't the way I'd like to see it. In other games like Champions and Wow I feel like I have full control over my characters flighting but in Aion it just seems like I'm struggling against something for control all the time. Maybe they'll do something with it but I really don't think that is going to happen so I wait until I hit 30 to equip my new wings to see if that helps much with the flight timer and the wait for it to come back after its been used up!
The problem with your assumption is that you are expecting to have full power over your flight at level 10. Not going to happen. Let me know when WoW lets you fly at level 10 unrestricted and then you can compare the two. Aion Gradually gives more power to the flight mechanic as you progress through the game. By the time you reach level 50 you can practically fly for extreme periods of time without any issues.
It's too bad the gamer generation these days are so negative about everything, even when it's done right. Also the person who said Perfect World flight is the best in the MMO Genre... L o L.

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
lol there must be a lot of aion fan then ,because if you thot getting a WII console was hard when it was released ,
ncost or aion time card are as hard a WII was to get in store
the store in our city received 4 time card freaking hell 4
so this game is very popular will be number 2 game soon
Can someone please translate this into English? Thanks.
Uh, there is only one race that can fly and even that is limited in some ways. Besides flight was perfectly explained by the lead designer.
Another First impressions Review?
Are we still stuck to the first 20 levels post launch?
How about some advanced Gameplay Reviews...how is the Adena..err..Kinah (gold) situation?

Aion was on my list to buy. Heard many good things about it. I almost bought this game last week or so. The only thing that held me back was the server wait time. Many complaints about hours to wait to get in the game.
I am a casual player so that wouldnt work for me. I didnt buy it. Gonna wait for awhile.
BTW, are there still long queues to get in?
The US servers have low queues I think EU servers are the one that are having the most queue times.
Telemachus [EU] server queues are dropping, but they are still in the 50mins mark. I am talking about prime time only though, you can login normally at any other time.
For the U.S. players waiting to buy the game due to que times, there are two new Western and Eastern timezone servers with no que times and a healthy population.
Agree completely. Besides - at least up to lv. 18 when i stopped to play all my 6 alts - there are actually no fly zones. Only around Vert Cita (and having quests around). Shameful. About some saying is only starting area .... could be ... but not according to what I have read. Flight zones and timer are it looks still pretty limited. I left however because at around lv. 17-18 when I have leveled all my 6 alts and discovered that I'm unable to find any quest except few group quests. Have chatted a alot and many complained about this, few being above lv. 30. Up to this level was very nice playing and experience.
O, yes. Nearly forgot. No matter popularity or not ... is to blame only producer to have around 3 - 4 hour login times. When I had time to play whole evening .. no problem. But when I wanted to play at night and had around max. 2 hours of gameplay time and only waiting was nearly double .... Another good reason I left.
About support ... one of the worst ever.
Gold spammers ... more in this few weeks then in Wow in whole year. Besides in Wow (and any other game) are removed promptly ... here same gold spammer was spamming for days and days despite many reportings only from me.
All in all ... I enjoed a lot this time in Aion .... but they will have to work much much harder.
I just love how people annihilate a game with out even giving it a chance. A MMO takes at least a full 2 months to fully understand it. If your not willing to immerse yourself in the game and just hand out short sighted slams. Your comments are useless to us. So far I am enjoying the game and all it has to offer.
Old
This is unbelievable! In few minutes I have logged back to Aion after week or two .... on chat there was impossible to read absolutely anything other gold spamming messages!! Wow .... 99.99% was only gold spamming! Despite I hate gold spammers and games where they do absolutely nothing to contrast this .... I admit it was really impressive! Of course, I'm now sure I will never again play such game (despite I loved start) ... but, boy, was really impressive to see all that colored spamming running up the screen like in old times dos dir command with thousands of files. Impressive.
