Antialiasing problems?

ScarisScaris Member UncommonPosts: 5,332

If another EQ 2 player could help me, I am having some graphical problems I have some questions about. My client doesn't seem to be antialiasing. The edges on all models, terrain, and water seem to be jagged when they should be smooth, and I get speckle around many of them. I have yet to find any anti aliasing settings in EQ 2, am I missing something? I get this at the highest possible video quality settings, and I have even tried turning things up from that. Still have the problem. This isnt in the game by design is it, its driving me insane.

Any input would be appreciated,

As far as I know EQ2 doesn't support antialiasing. But my knowledge level on the subject is pretty low, so don't take my word for it. Only reason I say it doesn't is because about a month or so before launch some guy came in here trying to save us all from EQ2 because it didn't support antialiasing. Apparently it makes it a bad game because it doesn't look as good.

I found that funny since that was my excuse to not play WoW, that it doesn't look good, but for some reason or another my excuse is always found to be "wrong."

actually since I posted I have found alittle info on it. I posted in the EQ 2 official forums on it as well and someone replied.

He is having problems with this but others seem to have done it successfully. I am wondering if Sony is leaving it out currently because there is a problem with it and plan to get it in later.

You can take alook at what one person replied to me with here:

If anyone has had any success with tis method or can give me any more info I would really appreciate it. The lack of anti aliasing is really bringing me down, it just completely crushes the beautiful graphics in the game.

It works, perfectly. I am running 4x AA in EQ II. Problem is you have to shut off blooming to get it to work and you can't control it within the game, you have to make a game profile in your forceware for eq2.exe and everquest2.exe to get it so it only applies to EQ 2 and you aren't forcing it with every app.

If anyone needs any help with this let me know.

There was a huge thread on this already on this forum.  Not sure what the link is, but basically your client has no ability to enable/disable AA in the game, however, you can enable/disable it outside the game.

I can only speak for NVidia since that is what I have.  By default, the NV settings are set to "Program Controlled" for AA settings.  If you right NVidia Icon thing in the task tray (Not sure what its called since I am at work) and go into the configuration, you can change it from "Program Controlled" to whatever AA Setting you want and then go into EQ2 and it will be enabled.

So the code is written to handle AA, but for some reason, they left that out of the configuration options in the game to allow you to toggle it on/off.

Hehe, I know, I offered to help others get it set up if they have the same troubles I had 2 days ago. Thats what I ended up doing, but I attached it to the everquest2.exe and made an Everquest II profile so that when the game launches it kicks into 4x AA instead of App controlled. That way I don't have to keep switching for my other games.

You would not BELEIVE the graphics different. I seriously had to question how everyone was claiming the graphics were good in the game with it looking the way it did. Now to me the claims are justified. My only question is, they boasted they used water technology from the movie Titanic in the game, they took the time to get that in yet they couldnt get anti aliasing working??? I am not see'ing much sense in priorities atm.

I found the link to the thread which talks about the anti-aliasing thing...

Ya, it definitely makes a huge difference... I think this thread actually has before/after screen shots of turning AA on..

also...you just have to have atmospheric bloom off and enable antialiasing in your graphics card option tool, that should have come with your card.
