Computer disk space problem?

jayparm221jayparm221 Member Posts: 13

Hey guys. I just bought the new game Aion and I'm trying to install the digital version on my computer. I've attempted to install this several times. And every time it keeps saying "there is not enough disk space on your computer." When i go to 'My Computer' to check how much disk space i have, it says i have 15.5 Gigs free (when the game is not installed) and i have 8.2 Gigs free (when the game is installed). The game itself is 6,800 mb which equals 6.8 gigs i believe. I clearly have enough disk space but my computer isn't allowing the game to install. I'm currently running a disk cleanup and going to try it again tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas on whats going on? Thanks!

I know the problem.  The game is actually 27 GB large.  Its 6 GB compressed

Yeah, it gets a lot larger when you unzip it. Go and buy a new harddrive and put in, they are really cheap now. Or clean up some junk.

I don't reccomend those USB harddrives, they tend to stop working. Just buy a new SATA drive (if you don't have sata you will have to buy a sata PCI card for anothe $20 or so).

You wouldn't want to run games with only a couple gb free. Usually you'd want to keep your harddrive with at least 20% free space. With disk platter style hard drives, drives at near capacity can act very slow because the hard drive has to seek empty sectors across the entire harddrive. As more and more room gets taken up, it takes longer and longer to find these empty sectors. If you don't have enough RAM to run the game, and require a large pagefile, this can also be a problem as the harddrive will be constantly reading and writing to itself, likely from far far regions of the disk.

My recommendation is just to get a newer bigger harddrive. The sweet spot right now seems to be above 500gb and less than 1TB. You'll get the most gb/$ in that area, depending on the drive brand. I personally would recommend Western Digital as WD typically has very low RMA rates and are more reliable than some of the other brands.
