Spammers of thy gold
I'll be the first to say that I enjoy the game and that I don't mind throwing the $15 to keep playing... However, I will not pay $15 a month to have my chat spammed. I'm not talking about the random one's most games seem to have. No I'm talking about the one's that are spamming so fast you can't even read what is being said in chat.
Is every NA server this bad or is it just mine?

All the servers are like this. Just need to right click the name and block. Do this at the start of play time and you'll be free of the spammers mostly.
yeah, it is usually only 2-3 spammers just block them when you start and you will be fine for the rest of the day,

One thing i would also suggest is separate your LFG channel from everything else and make a separate one. Then you can read the rest of the chat then.

Yeah block 'em when you get on although pending on how long you play you'll probably have more bastards you need to block later on. Actually had to clean up my block list the other day due to it being filled -_-
Although part of that was blocking all the idiots arguing nonstop about Aion vs Game X, or your momma jokes, feeble attempts at reinvisioning Barrens chat, etc.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
What was said by someone else earlier is spot on. Spend 15 seconds right when you log on abd block the 2 or 3 people that are spamming (this will help them get banned later) and you will be GTG for your game session. Also, they mostly are just in LFG, and if you arent LFG there really isnt even a reason to have this up. I usually have legion, group and cleric chat options up and of course whispers. So it is almost a non-issue when you think about it.
It is definitely a major problem, and hopefully it gets corrected. I'm willing to be patient with this game, it runs well, is fun and I'm having a great time. I just hope NCSoft can deliver on stopping this, I don't like a full list of ignore, matter-of-fact, I rarely ever ignore anyone.

just an observation but guild wars is also by ncsoft and it is still rampant with gold sellers, so personally i'm not expecting ncsoft to do anything about it in aion if they can't fix it in guild wars. although i don't think it should be the players job to keep the gold spammers away, i guess we either learn to deal with it or find another game. ncsoft apparently will never fix this problem.
I have to agree it's incredibly annoying but the above is correct.
I find that if I scroll up while the text is whizzing by it stops. I then just scroll to 3 or 4 names, block them and the problem vanishes.

NCSoft, unless the company has changed dramatically, will not do anything about money-farmers.
If chat spam really bothers you that much, you are not hardcore enough to play Aion.....

It is a PvP game after all. I guess I'll have to leave because the spammers keep powning me :-/
On GW. I guess they don't bother me as much because all you have to do is leave and get into a instance.

I did not Play GW for long but I did not see any gold spam...
It is impossible to remove gold spam, they just need to try and cut them down somehow.

i played GW from its release up until about april of this year. the spammers got progressively worse over time and were ridiculous by the time i left. wow doesn't seem to have that problem. over the last year i think i've seen maybe 1 or 2 spammers that whispered me directly. maybe it has something to do with their ip or account bans, i dunno, but they sure don't have the problem that ncsoft games have.
It might and i mean might be impossible to get rid of all gold spammers, however, all it takes is one dedicated GM to completely ban an account on the first gold spam that comes from that account. Instead spammers are allowed to go on for hours on end often with just a single character getting banned. The gold spammers then make another random keyboard name character to go again for hours on end again. That to me isnt trying very hard to stop gold sellers. If it ends up costing the minor farmers at least more money than they can make to keep creating new accounts then the spam will either stop or become something less obnoxious.

Best way to get rid of gold spammers is to remove the LFG channel. Global chat channels are always bad news and I've spammed LFG for hours and never got a group. It's useless. What they should do is only show you the chat of players within 5 levels of you in LFG. You don't even get exp for partying with players 6+ levels above you so this would be my fix.
When I played in China I don't remember LFG chat but I was frequently given alliance invites and turning those off was an easy fix. If you want an invite to an alliance you just turn it on.
Anyway why use LFG chat? Just shout in general for a group or find another way. I don't think many people use LFG anymore.
I use it all the time for getting into or recruiting for PvE groups. Sadly, the biggest problem most I know run into are the amount of people spamming lfg with everything but lfg and I'm not referring to the gold spammers. Not sure why 2 global channels weren't made - one for actually trying to lfg and one for general bullshitting needs and discovering what joke needs to be beaten to death for the day.

Ya know? Regardless of what the arguments are for Closed vs. Open UI's in mmo's are- no one can argue that Spammenot and other mods like it help control gold farmers.

Nope, that's their MO. They will talk a blue streak about cracking down on farmers and spammers, then ban a few just so they can make an announcement, but they never take any real steps toward combating the farmers. In fact, in Lineage 2 (and others I'm sure) it was not well-concealed that NCSoft was actually making money off some of the farming operations. So nothing will happen and the only thing you can do is ignore it.

at all occations I have seen gold spamming there has never been more than a total of 3 spammers at any given time.
so 3 blocks less than a day, and that is enough for you to not enjoy the game?
