2D or 2.5D MMORPG

darkgamerxdarkgamerx Member Posts: 311

In your opinion what is the best 2d mmorpg? I've been trying out quite a few MMORPG's on and off that i've never played before and i've stumbled on some 2D mmorpgs.

I haven't played many 2D mmorpgs, but tried a few:

Ultima Online Stygian Abyss - Fun game although a bit dated, which stopped me from buying it.

Ragnarok- Not the first time i picked this game up but it's quite fun although nothing to really do but grind.

MU online- Didn't really play this for long, found it quite boring.

So, in a way i'm looking for a new 2D/2D.5 mmorpg, one with depth community and a open world. A variation of classes/races and perhaps a good crafting system.

So my fellow mmo'ers i ask for your aid once again : )

Sorry to hear that Ultima Online was too dated for ya to purchase, I've been playing for 2 months now and really really like it.

Isn't the first time i've tried to get back into Ultima online. Just everything seemed dated UI and Combat. I know it's crowned as one of the greats and it is but i guess i missed the golden age.

I had the same problem with Haven and Hearth. They just dropped me down with no idea what to do, but it does seem like a game I could get into.

I'm not sure what you want the game for, but I usually look for the small 2D games that I can play in windowed mode to pass some time when I'm working and can't get into one of the bigger mmo's. For that I've browsed around on most the F2P companies and didn't really find one that suited me so I can't recommend much. If you're looking for a subscription based one I don't know what to tell you. 2029 kind of hooked me, might not be what you are looking for though, don't know if it had much of a craft system. It's a pretty small simple game good for a quick couple plays to pass a few hours.

The people that i saw around Haven and Hearth were quite confused, i'd ask for help and they would reply "I have no clue what im doing myself mate" lol 2029, i'll give that a look.

might want to check out Torchlight. It's an isometric 3d clicker (D2) that is set to be a F2P mmo in a year or so, but the single player version comes out at the end of this month. Once again, It's called Torchlight and it's made by Runic Games. And it's by no means a sandbox, but i didn't see you (the op) mention that being a requirement.

     dofus is very popular also

Haha there was no one else around when I tried to play. I've actually been looking for another game myself in this style. I can't seem to get back into Ragnarok and that used to be my ace.

Ragnarok was quite fun while it lasted, i tried going back to it but just couldn't get back into it. It's just a big 2D grind with nothing else really tied to it . Some organised pvp and low end crafting...and more grinding.

Yeah that's pretty much how I felt when I played it again recently. I used to be fine with all grind but it's gotten bland. All the private servers I found had extremely high rates too and that got boring.

I would suggest trying Dragonica. Its 2d with a 3d background

Yeah highrates servers were quite boring, found out there wasn't really much to do once you hit max-level. So here i am searching for a decent 2d mmorpg!

For H&H, you really need to check the How-To, PAQ and forums.

I actually posted this link yesterday in a similar thread.

    linkrealms.com/

It's still in Beta I think, but this game will blow a lot of people away.

I missed out on UO, but apparently it's gonna make a fine torch bearer.

"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
