Looks pretty sweet!

I would like to state that in no way shape or form that anything I receive from SOE influences my opinion about SWG or their company. I’m pretty much a typical average player enjoying the game.

IMO the left for dead zombie band wagon ended with the movie "Zombie Land" and "Left4Dead"

The game needs serious tuning.  Most people don't even play it anymore, they just farm AFK, making it impossible for others to play.   They could be doing a lot more for the game instead of wasting time with seasonal in game events like the world of warcraft ones.

This is how much effort SOE put into their dungeons these days.

1 room with nothing in it

1 rancor with stuff stuck on it.

Theres plenty more examples of that too like HK47 and Sher'kar and all the rest.

Then you play WoW and see how amazing their dungeons are and wonder why they can't do that in SWG.

The new update has cool art - but needs some more content aside from escort missions and collections.

I do give them kudos for the art AND making the new updater playable by ALL (including < lvl 10) - There is a full page add in the new book for SWG so perhaps it will attract some new players. Afterall, 90% of the 'fun' in this game is teh community

here are some more art assets:

Yeah...I can't even begin to express how I feel about adding "zombies" to SWG...book or no book.

I'm just pleased to know that the Chronicles update was released fully working and bug free and everyone, including Ents, are happy with it. And it's nice to know that they finally fixed the Battle Ground issues with LoS and que's. I know DE's had some issues as well from their update, but I'm just happy to know they've gone back and fixed all the real issues they've introduced the last few months before adding in zombies...

Once that book hits, I'm sure the horror/sci-fi fans will jump on it. L4D is old news and in a modern setting, Deep Space was just odd...I'm sure SWG will be exactly what every horror/sci-fi fan is looking for.

do I sense some sarcasm, tux?

    :)

for those that continue to play, content is content. Realizing what you can control and cannot can be liberating.

I'm just glad it is on schedule - now they can move on to GCW

I'm sure that's what many people have been hoping they would get working on since... A long time ago.....

for anyone still playing, I hope they do get it up and running.

Myself I have moved on to newer things... though whenever they give me a free month to play I do pop back in just to see whats going on and who is still left from my old guild.

Maybe one day we willall be pleasantly surprised to see the GCW working.

They don't have the staff or resources to do that mate. They may have tossed in a few things here or there, but really, don't think they've done much while no one was looking. Between GU13 taking far too long, the numerous bugs with Chronicles and the number of requests people have made for it and then the deadline of Oct 13th for zombies (book release date), I don't think they've done a whole lot behind the scenes for the GCW Update.

Besides...last I heard (from Loche), Hanse was going to be the guy working on it (in theory, after the DE Update he did). Hanse is the genius that also gave us the Battle Fields as they are as well as numerous imbalanced professions over the years. He's a helluva hard worker, but he does his own thing, nothing else. Loche is who you need to convince of changes to Hanse's systems...not Hanse.

And there's a difference between knowing what you can/can't influence and giving in. Zombies, no matter how anyone sells it to the masses, is a stoopid idea for SWG and should NEVER have been added - I don't care what plans they had made, what books were being written, a bad idea is a bad idea. Just "accepting it" is giving in and not standing up for yourself (and in your case, your community). I too spoke for the GCW/PvP community, and in our view, the GCW should have been the central theme to SWG and far more crucial than zombies. Apparently that has changed.

And please don't tell me "content is content" when it's the ONLY combat content that's been added since Hoth and it's freaking zombies!!! The only thing LESS Star Warsy that zombies is maybe El Chupacabra or vampires...which I assume would have been next on Dotanuki's schedule had he not gotten shipped off to the Clone Wars MMO.

TBH, they could skip adding "new" content for the next 10 years and just revisit all the stuff they've removed and never looked back on. We have themeparks, Kashyyyk, Mustafar, missing NPC quests...there were a TON of fun little night run quests in the original game...almost all of those have been removed (via removing the starting NPC) and never tweaked or modernized. The original Devs had quite a few quests that didn't involve "chronicle" type "go here, kill this" quests...it would be nice if they simply "updated" the core game for once to a simpler time, when every update didn't introduce a new massive grind and more tokens.

Maybe I am reading your words wrong, but this sounds like a defeatist mindset you are displaying.

Am I reading your words correct that people should just be happy there is content, regardless of what it is, how well it works as long as it is on time?

    update it goes live tomorrow.

Tux I'll try to respond to this and I'm glad you posted what you did as your point of view helps me in what I've been saying for years.

Here's some what I wrote on the O'boards...

"I always laugh about people that think George doesn't know about SWG things.

Rightfully so this man is obsessive compulsive about all things that have his trademark on them.

Go watch some of the dvd behind the scenes.

This man will "tell" the professionals of their fields, what he wants done/changes redone, until it is exactly the way he wants it.

The man is impressive in that Star Wars is his creation and in his creative process he doesn't have to please anyone but himself with the product.

He will tell writers, actors, composers, artists, stunt personnel, special effects specialists anyone and everyone what he doesn't like about what they've done and what to change it to with no second thought of stepping on toes.

If you ever, (or have ever) give birth to a brand or an original creative idea you will know why he does this and you should study him as one could learn a lot about brand control and marketing.

He’s a brilliant businessman as well as a creative genius. "

You may think that SW zombies is a "stoopid" idea but that fact that remains is the creator of the brand is pushing a new product and when he wants his product pushed forward it’s going to get pushed forward.

He’s also utilizing his brands to cross promote them all. It’s not “stooped” it’s brilliant business.

Remember for every someone that thinks something in any mmorpg is a grind, there's another someone that thinks it's content.

I would like to state that in no way shape or form that anything I receive from SOE influences my opinion about SWG or their company. I’m pretty much a typical average player enjoying the game.

That's simply not true mate - please read this link. Here's an excerpt:

There are two worlds here," explained Lucas. "There’s my world, which is the movies, and there’s this other world that has been created, which I say is the parallel universe – the licensing world of the books, games and comic books. They don’t intrude on my world, which is a select period of time, [but] they do intrude in between the movies. I don’t get too involved in the parallel universe.

Trust me mate...George had nothing to do with "zombies" or any cross promotion. SWG is the Holiday Special of SW games.

    Good stuff there Tux.

Even better from the same entry:

LUCAS: "I don't read that stuff. I haven't read any of the novels. I don't know anything about that world. That's a different world than my world.

Yeah, Zombies in the SWG game, we all knew it was coming but the morons actually put it in... and that's not all....

What about the "assless chaps" that are a reward item for the current zombie quests? I kid you not, there are pictures of people wearing them on the O-boards.

We all know GL probably personally instructed SOE to put those in.... :)

LMFAO!!! I saw that thread :P @ssless chaps? LOL!!! That was a freaking classic screenie. Honestly, the rate with which the crap fell was high, how in the hell wasn't that caught by QA? It seems that ever since Hajl moved to the Dev team, QA has taken a noticeable dip in quality...almost like there is no QA any longer.

you're quote is in In July 2001 pre SWG

It's more of the business model also.

I'm sure you remeber the quote

LA has to sign off on everthing we do.....

There is plenty of stuff from 2005, i.e. post SWG launch in there is that makes you happier, including the follwing tidbit from my previous post:

Even better from the same entry: GL talking about the books and extended universe and all that stuff:

LUCAS: "I don't read that stuff. I haven't read any of the novels. I don't know anything about that world. That's a different world than my world.

GL personally has nothing to do with any of the stuff outside "his world". He could give a crap about SWG or most of the other video games that have been put out, beyond the royalty/licensing  checks.

And I doubt LA gives a crap about SWG any longer either, with as many, more profitable ventures going now or in the works. SWG gets the care it deserves: none. No wonder LA/SOE is using it to shill the zombie book.
