For 3 days now 3 bots have been nonstop killing the tree mobs that spawn static in heiron. After reporting them absolutley nothing is being done. Along with these bots are the gibberish name farmers that spend day after day farming the mobs. Add to that the spammers and wispers and I can already see where this game is going.
I know at this point with the lack of action against the botters/spammers/farmers that NCsoft really could care less about the players.
I know... Here come the excuse posts... The game just came out. Its easy to block them. etc etc etc.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR A COMPANY THIS LARGE NOT TO MONITOR ITS GAMEING SERVERS. NONE!!!
How hard is it to hire a couple of employees to start banning people?

I agree that it is annoying to logon and get spam in the LFG chat channel almost immediately and to get the odd whisper from gold spammers and to see the odd bot here and there. But to assume that because you don't see any action in the time frame you expect it to happen i.e. immediately that NCSoft doesn't care or isn't working on it seems to be an over reaction.
There needs to be some major changes in how they manage the game but I'm willing to give NCSoft a bit of time to figure out how to do it. You say how hard is it to hire some people to monitor the game and that is a fair question. Let's see you have to figure out what the job is going to entail, how much you want to pay the prospective employee, figure out the budget for this new group of people, figure out how many you need, post that you are now looking for employees, get their CVs, bring them in for interviews, hire them, train them, and then get them started. Gee, I guess NCSoft can do all that in the morning and have them online and working by the afternoon. Oh, and you want this to be a 24x7 monitoring job so there are what 12 servers in the EU and another 12 in the US and say each person can monitor 3 servers you would need 8 people for one shift which means you need to have 24 people for a monday to friday operation add in another 12 to put in weekend coverage and you need at least 36 GMs to do a reasonable job. Oh, and while not a especially difficult job they probably do expect to get paid and have benefits like holidays and the like. So figure entry level wages of $20k a year not including employer taxes and overhead and you are up to about $720K and of course you need to have desks, computers and maybe set up a work area where people can cover for each other so figure you need to spend around a million dollars to set up this up. Yeah don't see why they can't get it done by tomorrow.
Having said all that it is obvious that NCSoft didn't plan or expect this level of spam/bot infestation and were not properly prepared and considering all the concern prior to launch that it might happen it seems a bit silly of them not to have considered their options in advance. They certainly should have planned for having a fairly large group of GMs to run and monitor their servers and it would appear that they haven't done that or if they have that they aren't getting the job done.
NCSoft needs to step up and show that they can run this game like a business and not a 9-5 hobby. If you want a 24x7 business to work then you need to have a 24x7 staff and trying to do this on a budget just isn't going to work.
But, I will give them a bit of slack and time to see if they can get their act together. If not then there are other games and companies out there.
Yeah, its annoying. And I hope NCSoft does something about it. But since its easy to block the spammers, takes just a few seconds after logging in. And you can stop the whispers by simply going anonymous. I rarely see anything from them at all. I am just hoping they don't start with in game mail advertisements.
Not much you can do about those using their personal stores to advertise. I just have to ignore that.
We will see if NCSoft does something about it, I certainly hope they do. But, I am still going to give them time to try. If it gets worse and they do nothing....yeah, I might just move on. Won't be the 1st time the community caused me to leave a game.

Well, with their first attempt they seem to have gone a bit overboard with the banning. During Friday and Saturday there was no gold spam at all on my server (I cleared my ignore list to be sure). Then on Sunday they started appearing again. By Monday I had blocked 12 names.
They aren't that many really that are doing the spamming (I don't have to block more than a couple names per day), but they are absolutely silly in the way they are doing it. They spam the LFG channel whenever they can (it has a 30secs cooldown between posts) and the general channels constantly (general channels don't have a time restriction between posts). That creates an amazing amount of noise from so few people. I think it's counter productive, but what do I know.
I didn't notice any bots so far. Maybe I was just not looking hard enough.
Not really Karma as the points are completely different. Gameguard was crashing on peoples systems left and right and people weren't able to play. Spammers and botters aren't stopping people from playing just annoying them. GG had to go or to be fixed if Aion was to keep its players. Gameguard would not have stopped all the gold seller spamming so its removal or presence doesn't change that at all. It might have controlled some of the botting but as everyone knows it really only stops the people who don't know what they are doing from botting.
I agree completely. I don't understand the almost crazy level of spamming they do as it would seem more likely to alienate potential customers than to let them know about your service. Maybe they want to get as many spams out before they get taken offline but it still seems like they are hurting their own business.
And as to botters I think I have seen maybe one so far. The real annoyance for me is all those people standing in corners jumping up and down to avoid going AFK.
Lols why dont we all just turn off LFG channel and talk in [1.say] channel like were supposed to(unless were actually LFG) IDK when this trend started(somewhere in beta or prerelease i think) I've turned off my LFG channel and...no bots aside from the few that whisper me from time to time. I really dont even use the LFG channel. the right click block thing worked for a while...until the dreaded day when i got the message "Your block list is full". Oh how i Rue the day that i blocked my last gold spammer. DAMN YOU Sdgfdfdfgh!!!!! DAMN YOUZ TO HELL!!
HAHA but really the gold spammers are getting out of hand. I'd like to be able to play and not have to turn off an entire channel. or fill up my block list. Whats gonna happen when i need to block some A-hole...my list will be filled with Qjlklflks and other random names. Now theyre getting more annoying and even more intelligent. I got a whisper that said "Hey, sup!" when i responded with "?" they spammed me 3 times with the same message. That and theyre filling their mesages with hearts and kinah symbols...
very annoying. NCsoft better do something to fix this...

Your making excuses... There are no excuses. A company should have a anti spammer / GM's available PRIOR to taking customer money and launching a game. This is not a new game.
NO EXCUSES.
One person could log into the servers and ban the accounts daily. I doubt this would take more that a few hours to do. Click account banned. I doubt these farmers are going to spend $50 a day getting new accounts.
If an account is hacked... Fine fix it with the stipulation that if it gets hacked a second time its banned for good.
Another option could be if the system detects spamming ( This is simple to do ) that person becomes attackable. Let the players police it and get some paybacks.
Hell... I would do it for free for NC. Let me log in and start the ban hammer rolling.
But its not going to happen... 3 weeks now and very little has been done.

I find it impressive and disappointing that they didn't have anything in store for spammers and bots, considering they fully knew in advance what was going to happen.
Switch the Free account creations to a fraud-based account creation and you have the same environment for bots/spammers.
I also find it impressive and disappointing how many people buy from them, this kind of practice is actually cheating, because if there is so much spam and botting, and it doesn't stop by itself, that's probably because there is a market for that...
As far as bots are concerned, they did have something in store for them. They were counting on Gameguard to stop them.
Now that Gameguard had to go (and good riddance at that), they have nothing built in to stop the botters.
Just like with spamming, this now needs investigation when someone does report them. The response on these reports is indeed quite slow. Wich is a bit disappointing.
The bots are out of control, and botting in obvious locations with obvious bot names ALL THE TIME.
Not to mention the f2p style "block every bot every day or not use chat" spam.
Then there is the fact that the game is kind of set up to require you needing to buy gold.
Skill books, deaths, potions/scrolls (or learning the craft required to make them) all require you to either get really lucky all the time with drops, or requires you to buy gold in order to afford.
I was making 200k on a good day, usually around 50-100k per 6-8hours of play.... im broke always can never afford to help the legion out and have a huge and growing soul heal debt.....why? because i need potions to survive, and i spent close to 200k buying skill books ( and a whole lot of money on teleports surprisingly)
So now im close to 31 (new skill books) have 100k soul heal debt ( a huge chunk of xp) running low on pots and i have 3k (enough to teleport within the abyss once, not enough to teleport to morheim).
Did i mention that decent equipment stopped dropping around level 20?
I can see why item inflation is starting, people need kinah from gold farmers just to complete normal activites. I really dont think its fun to have to grind for 8 hours just so i can afford to upgrade my skills or restock potions, nopt to mention the "no benefit money sink that is soul healing"
With my soul healing debt, i dont want to bother doing group quests or any activity that i will have a pve death, a pvp death is cheap and i prefer it...messed up isnt it?
They need to change something next update, make this game a bit more friendly to western audiences.
Oh and to the poster above me, the game guard fan, go log on to any game guard protected game you will see farmer spam. all GG does is block 3rd party programs such as hack programs, and only the most basic and commonly avialiable ones, the farmers use high quality bots that GG cant detect. All GG is, is a spyware program.
I couldn't agree more, I'm actually about to cancel my account and this is one of the major reasons for it. Oh well I think I'll just not play MMOs for a while or go back to older games like EQ2, AoC, or LoTRO for a while untill STO and SWOR come out.
At first it didn't bother me too much that they were pming me. Now they are messing with the Group Channel and I don't like that personally, but I can tell NCsoft has been combating it based on sometimes I do go there to see that spamers have quited down. Not only that, Im still very happy that even though with all the spam, people still use it and pay attention to it and it's awfully quick.

When one says "good riddance" to gameguard, then you can hardly call that person a fan of gameguard.
It will help you to rethink the way you game. Rushing madly in near death situations doesn't help with this game. And PvP deaths hurt a lot more than PvE deaths in the long run.

If you say a Botter, report him. Unlike other 'certain' games where bots operate freely in instances and Dungeons, you in most cases see the Bot. Not that there are that many in Spatalos anymore, not after we started reported.

Improve Aion's Graphics with a simple text file that you can create by yourself:
-Increase in-game Field of View to 175% or more
-Increase view distance for players to 100 meters with camera at max distance
-Lots of other settings

As a former Lineage 2 player (which has GameGuard), I can tell you that GameGuard really does nothing to stop botters and spammers.
Well, if it does, then there is a work-around - because a startling amount of L2 players were bots.

Are you an idiot or a game company employee? banning spammers my ass. Or are you trying to tell me that the spammers are buying a new account every few hours so they can spam? If they were banning it would stop. I doubt very much that these companies have hundreds of dollars to spend on new accounts daily.
logged in this AM and there were 9 new spammers and the Bot has been running 5 days in a row now.
Stop making bullshit idiotic excuses for this company. It is what it is.
