AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

SOE has finally unveiled their newest upcoming expansion for EverQuest®  titled Dragons of NorrathTM!  An overview of the expansion:

A series of events has transpired across the world of Norrath and the familiar faces of Firiona Vie and her nemesis Lanys T’Vyl return to find themselves at the forefront of the events. Unbeknownst to them, a dark influence has seeped into the world of Norrath causing new tensions to arise and conflicts to intensify as the dawn of a new age emerges. The Age of War is upon the people of Norrath and heroes return in this ultimate, unending battle between good and evil.

Prepare for EverQuest: Dragons of Norrath and return to the lands between Halas and Lavastorm as you seek out the Nest, the ancestral birthplace of all dragons, long sealed away and hidden from the eyes of Norrath. But beware, if the Nest is exposed too early during the Brood Dawn, all dragons and their eggs will be cursed for eternity and death will storm down on all Norrathian's not in their service.

Featuring new lands with enhanced graphics, bold new storylines, and updated creatures including goblins, drakes and the ominous Frost Giant, EverQuest: Dragons of Norrath is the next great expansion pack for the fantasy saga that is EverQuest. Make ready with new features such as the ability to regenerate your mana/health before a battle, use your potion belt to access your inventory quickly, and quickly swap from Sword and Shield to Great Sword using the bandolier. Plus, with the all new guild management tools you can easily get your guild ready to encounter anything that comes your way! EverQuest: Dragons of Norrath is bursting with new adventures and intense battles for players of all levels.

Features:
  • New Zones, Creatures and Content - From Lavastorm to the Thundercrest Isles adventure in graphically enhanced zones with all new themes. Brave challenging new quests, discover new treasures, and battle new NPCs including drakes, goblins, and fierce dragons.
  • New Interactive World Map - A full-color interactive map of the world allows players to point-and-click from a world view, to a continent view, to a zone view of the traditional line maps.

Sadly never...... You'd figure SOE would concentrate more on making EQ2 better.  As right now it's getting its a$$ handed to it by World of Warcraft.

SOE promised they would continue development of the original EQ after EQ2 went live, so this is them fulfilling their promise. You can't really call them on something they promised largely in response to player concern.

In any event, I don't see how pulling guys off of EQ would benefit EQ2. They've already got an army working on EQ2.

I for one am glad to see this new expanansion. I personally think SOE should of just passed on EQ2 and just put that time in bringing EQ up to date graphic and game play wise. They already had the user base why not keep those and try to improve the game to attract more than start from basically scratch and hope for people from EQ would go over to EQ2. Oh well just my opinion but am glad they are still putting out expansions for EQ as I have no desire to give up on all the time I've spent on my exsisting characters and in game friendships and start over again.

I am glad that they are continuing to do expansions for EQ 1 also, but to the second part of your statement about passing on EQ 2.  To that I say.....Hell No!!! image  I love EQ 2 and think it is a definite improvement over EQ 1.  That is not to say that I am putting down EQ 1 by any means, because I loved the game and had alot of fun in it.  As a matter of fact I am thinking about signing up for the SOE all access pass so I can still mess around in EQ 1 in addition to playing EQ 2(21.99 is cheap for two games image

Thats cool. But am curious what do you like in EQ2 over EQ1. I was in the Beta for EQ2 and what I found is they have simplified the game and taken out alot of risk in fighting and such. The one noticable thing that drove me nuts was the whole social aggro thing. I kinda like not knowing if pulling that mob will bring his friends or not. I don't want a dead simple game that you can just play and not worry about dying in some far off zone. Just makes you more cautious and such. But back to my original question what is it about EQ2 that you fine better than EQ1 besides the obvious graphics.

What do I like about it more?  I like how the quests are more abundant.  Tradeskills are more viable and fun in my opinion.  I like how there are alot more choices when it comes to race and class combos.  I like how down time seems to be greatly cut down and solobility is increased for all classes(I like grouping but I also like to be able to solo with what ever I want to when I want to).  People can't really kill steal or grief either which is rather cool.  Finally I like how combat is faster paced and seems more exciting.  In EQ 1 the warrior would just hit auto attack and bash or kick.  The EQ 2 fighter types have a great variety of skills that they can use to different effect.  If you want to maximize your fight you need to be on your toes and making use of your best skills.  The heroic opportunities are very nice also.  EQ 2 just seems better suited for a wider group of players from casual all the way up to hardcore.  Where EQ 1 seems more geared towards hardcore or people with alot of time on their hands unless one of the few great soloing classes are used.
