The "Latest" on CME?

RaltarRaltar Member UncommonPosts: 829

Well, the CME website came back online today and when I went to the site to check to see if it was there I figured "What the hell... I'll go check the forums!" I knew it would be mostly lies from the developers and FanOri praising their non-efforts. Thats pretty much what I found.

I saw a thread right at the top of the general forum titled The Latest on CME which contains some messages from Shane Hensley and other employees of CME.  Here is what Shane's post had to say:

"We had hoped to tell you in detail exactly what's going on at CME by the end of September, but circumstances beyond our control mean we'll have to wait a bit longer. We're sorry for the disappointment and hope you'll check out what we've been up to when we're able to work out a few remaining external issues. I know it’s a major disappointment and again I apologize, but there's really just nothing we can do about it.

Here's a message from our Marketing Director, Jeremy Taylor, as well:

Despite today's news, rest assured that we have a committed development team working on some really awesome stuff. We had hoped to share specifics with you today but will unfortunately need a little more time to ensure we can give you all the details you deserve after such a long wait…..but we can't.

But in the meantime, please enjoy SGU tomorrow! I l know that all of us here will be tuned in to see what new cool storylines, effects and characters Brad and Robert have to give us. This is a great time for Stargate all around with a new show and our chance to give you a game we are proud of and you will enjoy.

Jeremy Taylor

Director of Marketing"

I scrolled through the rest of the thread looking at the various replies. It was what you would expect from an official game forum. One person after another (half of them forum moderators or leaders of guilds formed for this game) flow in to thank Shane for this message.

But one reply really jumped out at me. It was from a guild leader named Floyd (I used to know a guild leader named Floyd, I'm wondering if its the same guy) who had this to say:

"People are saying thanks for the info, but... what info? All the post says is 'We have stuff, sorry but you have to wait to hear about stuff; hope you like stuff when we talk about stuff. Seriously. We have the stuff.'

That's not an announcement, that's an announcement for an announcement. Hardly news."

I have to say, I agree with this Floyd guy. Just awhile back we had a guy reply to one of my posts in another thread here on MMORPG.com who ranted that the developers claim to still be working on the game. Thats actually NOT what I'm seeing in this latest message from CME. They said "we have a development team working on really awesome stuff" but NOT "we are working on SGW". Its a "careful" distinction. Its a "corporate" distinction as Shane himself would say. It means that later when it turns out that no progress has been made on the game and they have spent this time working on Stargate Battles or (more likely) nothing he can deny ever having claimed otherwise.

"Awesome stuff" doesn't have to be SGW in this context. We don't know what it is. That is the whole reason he said it that way.

Everything they say is just damage control.

It's the middle of October 2009, the alpha/beta has been shut down for almost a year. They can't show a video with more than a guy running. They have even stopped pretending to get new screenshots. They have no product, no hope of making a product, all they have is the MLM scam.

This was one game I was really looking forward too a couple years ago. It seems they are not even going to try making this game anymore for whatever reason. Honestly at this point it would probably be better for them to just shut it down then to attempt finishing this game, they wouldnt get the support now that they would have a year ago.

You hit the nail on the head as the saying goes ariccron. It has just being about a year since Closed beta began and in 2 months or so it will a year since closed beta phase 1 ended. I don't completely agree with no hope (at least not completely) granted it is looking bad but none knows what the future will bring as they say.
