WHY DIDN'T MMORPG COVER THIS?

LordDmasterLordDmaster Member UncommonPosts: 130

SORRY TO CUT AND PAST.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY MMORPG DID NOT COVER THIS  NEWS IN A HEADLINE?

"China has banned foreign investment in its online gaming industry in a tightening of its censorship regime and an effort to protect local gaming companies. Foreigners would be banned from operating online gaming within China through wholly foreign-owned investments, joint ventures or any other forms of co-operation with local companies, the country’s publishing regulator said."

IS IT TRUE?

IS IT NEWS?

ISN'T THIS SITE ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE MMO WORLD?

AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY IT DIDN'T MAKE NEWS ON THIS SITE?

AND IF IT DID, CAN SOMEONE SHOW ME WHERE?

Because no one posted it on the forums yet. That's where MMORPG.com gets it's news.

WOW- China cares about not losing its Industry to non Nationals- Wish the USA had the same Philosophy and care about its nationalism.

    +1 to China

This is not about what China is doing, but what MMORPG isn't doing!

I think it still remains to be seen how this will affect the MMO industry as a whole.  They may want to gather more facts before posting a news article about it.

I have to agree. Its a sad day when the chicoms have a better business model than the U.S.  I doubt you will see their leader doing a world apology tour for it either.

NO...to cover news you post it as it happens....not four days later!

Do they really need to make a seperate post or headline when it is already being discussed on their forums? This isnt fox or cnn where you get 24 hour a day coverage for 2 months because an entertainer dies.

Considering this is the precedent they have allways used, why would they stop now. Here is how news is aquired by MMORPG.com.

    1. User posts about news
    2. Staff copy's, and links to original article, and give slight opinion to it
    3. Other sites pick it up, misquote, and tack on more opinions.
    4. Forum users misinterpret everything about the piece of news even the base line common sense
    5. 5 more threads are made about the news, each, a unique snowflake.

the number of player playing game made outside usa is so low its not worth protecting a market that already protect itself lol

Because journalism for our genre has yet to evolve beyond covering releases, gameplay discussions, reviews and "insider" looks. Take sports as an example, in countries with a well developed football press (Argentina) analysis becomes not only very elaborate and technical but all aspects of the game are discussed and covered. Violence in stadiums, corruption amongst FAs, player transfers, social and cultural aspects of the game, etc. Countries with poorly developed media (Honduras) will only focus on cheerleading their teams and hyping readers/viewers about medocre games.

MMO coverage is geared towards providing consumers with whatever info game companies decide to release and doing a bit of critique. We even get a guy on this site (good writer tho) doing lists of what games would be cool to have or what are the all time favorites... It really is our fault for not being discriminating about the quality the of journalism we get...

    Just to make things clear...
I speak for myself and no one else, unless i state otherwise mine is just an opinion. A fact is something that can be independently verified, you may challenge such but with proof. You have every right to disagree with me through sound argument, i believe in constructive debate, but baseless aggression will warrant an unkind response.

Think about it. How does this affect anything. What Chinese MMO is popular? It pretty clearly states that a foreign company can not have it's primary base of operations in China. Blizzard is not affected.

Also I might add, this is a fan site, albeit the best, and not a hard core news site. Having been a journalist for 20 years and a gamer for longer, I know that working with a limited unpaid staff you are bound to miss some stuff.

And quite honestly, this is not a big story just another Chinese attempt to pretend they are Socialist when indeed they are the most virulently Capitalist nation on earth.
