I've only done the free trial for EQ2 and am really liking it. I've tried quite a few classes and so far my favorite would have to be the Shadowknight. Seems like decent dps and can heal slightly.
I loved my Bruiser when i did play EQ2,great solo and can hold his own in a group, fake death as well. If not bruiser you might want to try the Qeynos monk which is the good version of the bruiser.
My favourate classes in EQ2 are monk and conjurer, however has far as I can remember it is hard to get in a group with these 2 at lvl 80 (It didn't bother me i just loved playing these 2 classes so that is what i did). The bruiser and a few more classes are not desired for groups later on either and these classes are better for solo. So it kinda depends on what you want to do, or if you care about if your gonna get a group easy or not.
Like I said I never gave a damn about this and just played my monk and conj anyways.

Try out a fury if you haven't already. Furys can heal fairly well, so you will be wanted in raids, but you can also solo well. Furys are basically an offensive healing/mage class. You can also change into animal form which is always cool.
Well, I loved my death knight. I can't answer as to whether or not they are wanted for high lvl raiding but I really like it. Also Paladin was fun as the sort of anti-death knight. obviously.
However, the game was too cute for my taste so I'm playing their equivalent in Vanguard.
