Anyone have info on how "solo based" this will be? I for one will not be playing if it is possible to get far with only solo.
FFXI was one of my favorite mmo's because you had to group and had to be social. All mmo's since WoW have not help my interest because no one groups or talks. I can play better single player RPGs, without having a monthly sub.

Well, if you read the interviews, you would have a good idea now.
- They said there will be ways to solo to "end game".
- Grouping will give you benefits you could never get soloing.
- Many things in the game will require grouping.
I'm hoping they keep the level sync system in place...or some variation of it. That will entice people to group left and right. Friends who are higher/lower can now join their friend whenever they want.
i read all the interviews and i didn't see anywhere saying solo will be possible until end-game. all i saw was "there will be activities for players with little or no time"
I liked the level sync. I just am tired of games taking the WoW solo trend. I have not really gotten into an mmo since FFXI and old SWG.

For the Guildleve system that we are introducing to Final Fantasy XIV, there will be several different type of Guildleves that you can select. So, if you feel like you want to play on your own today, you can choose Guildleves for solo play, or if you have a few people together and want to join a party and try out Guildleves that’s possible as well, so we will be providing a variety of options to the users so that it can match their play-styles.
That's the big one really.
There will be options to go solo or group mode with your guildleves, but to do the bosses and the bigger dungeons, grouping is the way to go. They've also hinted at if you do play solo, you will need quite a few more skills to be on pace with grouping.
They're obviously trying to keep grouping the mainstream, so I don't see what you're so worried about. I love grouping myself, but in XI, if you didn't have one, you could basically do nothing. Level sync did help, but it came much too late. I really hated those nights seeking a group for 2 straight hours before logging. I'm paying to play, not just chat with friends. I can do that with them for free.
i generally found groups pretty fast. my favorite part of FFXI was that i needed to be in a group. Im really excited for FFXIV but just worried because of the MMO trend lately.
Thanks though and i hope its more of a side thing then a main thing
Keep in mind that the ideal that there should be both group and solo content but that groups should be a more efficient use of your time is precisely the goal that almost every mmo has had in the past and it is a very difficult balance. Often what happens in reality is that one or more classes finds ways of soloing content that was intended to be grouped, and some classes find methods of gaining xp that is as fast or faster than they could achieve in the "average" group.
