I mean the occasional d-bag is one thing but, the wow forums - man, they take the cake - worst community ever....
so I thought I would come here and vent about it!
I stated that I didn't like the changes they made to my class due to the style I enjoyed playing - they came back with.
"you suck at it that's why you don't like it" and similar - I mean - how do you be elitest at a game that takes NO SKILL - i mean for someone to suck at wow.... you'd have to be missing both arms, both legs and both eyes...
Ugh, I would like to kick that community's ass...

Funnily enough I think the OP is hinting that some other MMO does take skill.
Let me state it clearly. MMO's don't take skill, period. Not in any significant way compared to any game where you actually *do* need skill.
what I am saying is - to get on your elitest high horse in a game that's requires less skill than most games in general - is kind of stupid.
Then to attack someone who expresses an opinion - which I expected some folks would be like "yeah! what happened to that" but, they were like " you are just bad at it and don't know how to adapt"
how can someone make this bold assumption about someone that don't know - it's just plain ignorant.
typically later in the thread some of d-bags back tracked to make themselves feel better about being complete douches earlier in the thread but, to me it's too late at that point.
Exactly my point though - mmo's don't require skill therefore elitism is retarded with regards to mmo's especailly...
of course it takes skills... perhaps not mad skills but for an example arena PvP takes at least a dash of skill, so of course you will have people that feel that they are better at the game.
Might also be because you (the OP) complained about (i asume) so called "nerf's" most likley all ready ground to dust due to repeated posting and if so the local tribes tend to be a bit sensitive and lash out.
So... They were wrong you were wrong and now your bad mood has casued a ripple effect spreading that bad mood.
Also Madcap is a strange character to have as a avatar... all that crazy regen and metal powers... talk about a TankMage. =P
This have been a good conversation
What did you expect, to them your attacking their perfect game, their holy grail, all MMO's have these sects of players that truely think their game does not stink.
Its not WoW...its MMO's...its all the Internet. Anonymous=APD....APD=Asshole personality disorder.
People that might be borderline decent in real life under the cloak of the internet are free to become the biggest
assholes imaginable. Also, consider those that are assholes to begin with. They absolutely love the internet.
In RL, they try and screw with people they can get their faced smashed in. But online, the griefing is 100% safe and endless.
Either the internet = reflection of the worst side of humanity, or, it represents the real side of humanity...and god help us.
Any time you go on to a forum and complain about a certain game mechanic or change, you'll find supporters of it that will call you a whiner and tell you to L2P.
Solutions pretty simple, don't make posts like this unless you objective is to get criticized by some, and perhaps get confirmation from some others that your opinion is shared by others.
It won't actually change anything because Dev's rarely see such posts and even if they did, know that they made the changes after much consideration and they feel it is best for the game in the long run.
Not saying they're correct btw, but it is their playground to do as they see fit. We consumers have a choice, accept it, or go play something else.
Which is what i did about 3 years ago when I left WOW.

their forums have always been like that, wow community has always been lacking(not saying every single player is an ass but seem to have alot more playing wow than most other games) and the forums attract the worst of the worst for what ever reason.
I hear you man. DON'T even post anything that makes any kind of logical sence over there.
When my large RP guild from WAR started to decline- well fizzile out and Aion was not yet launched I Searched the the RP forums of WoW to try to find a home for my party.
I found the most acitive rp server(which I thought) and made a thread "looking for mature Horde RP guild". BIG MiSTAKE.
All I got was a bunch of childish...beyond childish replies. I had put up one of my alt email address for some one to contact if they had a active RP guild and I got replies of "hey lets send this guy some animal porn" and it kinda took off from there.
I petitioned a GM to delete my thread. Within 30 minutes.
I won't touch the world's most childish bratty game. I would rather play Warhammer by myself, or Aion with my ASC RP crew.
The fact you are into playing every new WOW copy launched in these last 2 years, shows you miss it.
Even Aoin gets a chance, while you don't even have a clue about WotLK and WOW 2009. Talking about blindness.
It doesn't prevent you either to post here constantly promoting EVE in your signature note and trash talk about a game you no longer even know the basics from anno 2009.
And then even have the nerve to talk disrespectful about people who love WOW like Zorn in other posts.
It shows quite an attitude.
You don't have to play WoW every second of every day of every year to know what the game is like. Sprinkles and dashes of "new" things have been added, but the core of the game still is, and always will be the same: Gear Grind
No, I haven't played the game since just after WotLK came out. I still know nearly everyone in the game is grinding BG's for gear, grinding Arena's for gear, grinding instances for gear, or grinding raids for gear. Sorry, but I don't need to continually play WoW to know that I don't want to sit in front of my computer grinding all day in sub-par PvP, or boring PvE to get "epic" gear to stroke my epeen to.
But keep attacking every single person that played WoW and doesn't like it.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

Fix'd
You forgot something.May not be for gear, but it falls in the same daily repetitive gameplay that has been happening since BC.
Forums are a naturally skewed format. Statistics shows that any self selecting format will be skewed usually to the negative.
I would say ,and you can note, people with strong opinions are the most common posters followed by those who are bored and have no other out let at the time.
So self selecting formats tend toward the negative and bored persons often trend towrads negative or trolling behavior. This makes most forums a bedrock of negative atmosphere. Now obviously many of us come here for more than a fight with jerk bags we come to forums for news, rumors, and validation of our interests. Just know there will allways be a heavy trend towards the jerkside.
That said, the most vocal of a group is ussually not the best example of group. Are there jerksbags in the WOW community absolutely out of a community of 11 million your going to have jerk bags. Also jerkbags are more vocal than kind people, this will always be so.
My point? hell I have no point really. Just remember all communities have jerkbags some more vocal than others.
Don't judge a whole community by its jerks. Hell if you did that not a single gaming community could be considered worth while if judged by that standard.

Whoa, Zorn, what's up, a bit of pent up rage or something? I give many new games a chance, how else would I find out if there was a fun one to play? It is a shame they do turn out to be WOW clones so often, because as soon as I get that impression I pretty much quit playing. I keep hoping to find an exception, but no luck so far.
As for promoting EVE constantly, sure I'll cheer lead for the home team. I think its a very deep game that many people would enjoy if they would learn to approach it the right way. But hey, its not for everyone and thats fine, we have lots of other games to chose from.
I know a little bit more about WOW than you think, my son kept an account until earlier this spring and while they've done lots of amazing things, the core game play has not changed. It is a level based, quest driven game where the primary goal is to acquire better gear. Player actions have little consequence on the actual game world and the PVP involves no risk.. Just not what I'm looking for.
You mentioned Aion, my interest in it is strictly from people saying that the PVP/Abyss combat is reminicent of DAOC, but have yet to reach that to confirm. The PVE quest/grind reminds me of WOW/L2 and does not impress, but again, thats not why I'm giving it a try.
Did you really refer to yourself in the 3rd person or did you cut and paste this reply from some deleted post? Regardless, I don't think in this particular thread I was disrespecting anyone, just pointed out to the OP there's no reason to go to forums and complain about a game mechanic or change unless you want people to disagree with you.
And yes, indeed, I do have quite an attitude. I make no apologies.

What the man said ↑↑
Not just wow, there is a lot on this forum as well.
I do find that WoW has the most elite gamers, but that may be due to amount of players that play it. In someways it is designed to encourage this by allowing other players to inspect your gear and acheivements, is there no way to lock this?
PS: Steady on Zorn, did Kyleran do something in an earlier thread to upset you, his comments in this thread require no previous knowledge of WoW, and the way and manner you lay into him indicates an agenda that is not obivious to a new reader.

Elitism in MMOs has always baffled me as the only real skill being tested is strategy and equipment choice for the most part. Add into that many people use online guides to choose their skills and equipment and you have almost no strategic skill used.
Perhaps the only notable skill in an MMO, could be group tactics a group of players who coordinate well is a skill but one on one in a MMO is rarely a skill based contest and hardly merits bragging.
Elitism is just annoying in general and a root of much conflict in gaming communities PC, Console and tabletop alike.

On the one hand, I agree there are a lot of asshats on the WoW forums. That shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
Still, I've participated in plenty of civil discussions on the WoW forums, and I have to wonder about the OP's post. Care to link the thread, OP? Did your post say anything useful, or were you just whining about the changes? WoW classes are changed constantly for balance, and long-time WoW players don't have patience these days for the typical "this sucks, boohoo" posts that come up all the time.
"I stated that I didn't like the changes they made to my class due to the style I enjoyed playing - they came back with."
Due to the above higlighted bit in the OP's post there should have been no comeback, in an ideal world.
But i am sure to many people have seen to many complain threads that this may have been missed and the flamming would have been unavoidable once the post was made.
And of course there are 1000s of level headed players in WoW, but then they have more than the fair share of asshats for want of a better word as well. Due to the sheer size of the pop you are gonna get all sorts of people.
Regarding elitism i have never really encountered it in any other MMO i have played. And it maybe due to some inadequacy in real life that make an elitist what he is, where else is he soo powerful and then this goes to his head.
I am thinking this type of person has to be young with no signficant achievement attained in real life(how they will revel in the newly added achievements screen in wow!!) or some really really depressed adult. However i am not saying all young people are like this, far from it.
The official forums are widely-known to be a cesspool of idiocy and elitist bullshit. If you want to discuss something rationally, you'll have to go elsewhere.

MMOFAN2112 u are so correct in your evaluation of Internet A-holes!! I think im gonna steal that prognosis lol, j/k. I despise these people who fake being alpha males behind a screen. Okay i can understand a little if that person had a few respect credentials. Playing a game or blogging does not make anyone tough, at all. Getting mad because someone because they dont like the false world u enjoy is not adult-like at all!. Look i love MMO's they give me a release and i like to enjoy a game with other people. Even with Jerks in the game i still enjoy playing, i just think of them as my adversaries thats all. I played W.O.W for quite awhile and i enjoyed it with a great passion. The game is easy, It was set up nicely and it was fun. I enjoyed most aspects of it but i will never go back to it tho. If running around in circles in PvP and jumping around with your guy is your thing is cool then so be it. If someone tells u that it takes no skill to use these so called strategies then thats his/her opinion. With all being said i would recommend W.O.W to beginning MMO players. I would ad the caveat that the community is less than to be desired and if u can block the royalty on the game out then go for it.
