What single player games would make great mmorpgs?

Toquio3Toquio3 Member Posts: 1,074

Lately I've been playing alot the Hitman series and the latest tomb raider, and it got me thinking about how well those two games in particular would do as mmos. As you can imagine, I didnt really came up with a good way in which either hitman or tomb raider would make a good mmo, but it got me wondering about what other great single player games could do well in mmorpg form.

So Im making this post. What games out there would make a great mmo in your opinion?

I'm pretty sure everyone will agree with me on this. I'm not sure how it'll be done but...

In my opinion, it's more important WHO is developing the MMOs.

There are some interesting offline-games with a high potential in going MMO:

    Resident Evil

    Grand Theft Auto

    God of War

    Assassins Creed

    Battlestar Galactica

    Prince of Persia

    Heroes of Might&Magic

Hum, Zelda... you wouldn't even necessarily need 3D (and a big config), and there is already so much backstory that it has potential to create a HUGE world... maybe even something with evolution through time...

I don't see Nintendo getting into MMO anytime soon, but hey, a man can dream, eh?

    One obvious answer is Starcraft.

You got plenty of races, a deep background story and a well known brandname.

It would be an instant success.

I thought of that too, its a shame that its probably one game that will not happen in the near future (if ever).

    The Witcher

    Elder Scrolls (any)

    Metroid

    Legacy of Kain

    Fallout 1&2

    Decent Freespace

    Mech Warrior/Robotech

Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed.  Current mmo's grouping: tinder.  swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.

Fallout series (so much that can be done)

    Diablo series (good lore)

Starcraft series (although stated this will never happen)

Monkey island series (who would have thought of that one? hehe)

Edit: Descent Freespace from above would be a good idea, it was a very immersing game.

Nah...you think?  LOL!   OMG the game rocks.    I wish we had a game world like Vanguard, huge and seamless, with Mount and Blades combat system, skill and stat progression - that would rock!  Either that or an MMORPG based on Age of Empires, UO, and Mount and Blade - I'd be in gamers heaven!  Woohoo!   ^_^

    ufo:enemy unknown.

    - game would be classless

    - you could play martian or humanoid

    - start in a normal operation base

    - you could create your own different kinds of jets, planes, ships, tanks etc

    - guilds could create their own operation bases

    - game would have different modes of play. you can enter a jet and play pilot or gunner and try to shoot down ufos or human spaceships controlled by the other faction or the AI. you could craft stuff in the base, be a soldier in the field in the missions, defend your base, drive a tank during the mission

    - if you fly to the other factions planet you can try to attack the bases of their AI or players guilds, try to do missions (PvE dungeons) and when shot down, if you survive, try to defend and repair your ship

    And so on... :)

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

A Great MMORPG from a single player game! ROGUE GALAXY gets my vote! Best RPG I have seen on any console system in a long time!!

I have a few different game ideas, only issue with a ot of them would be crafting and if a such thing could be added to them.

Pokemon: I would have forgot about it but someone else mentioned ti and it would be cool to collect and battle against others.

Halo: Easily have 2, and possible 3 factions, each with different technology. Could have epic battles in space and on the ground. Humans and Elites, vs Covenant, vs Flood could create some epic 3 way RvR.

Half-Life: The world is so real and could be a good semi realistic mmo, and also seems like it would be a good one for 2 factions.

Oblivion and Fallout 3: These are both good single player rpgs and could make a good mmo for the same reasons. They both have good worlds and tons of antmosphere. Both also have a good ability ro expand and grow bigger. Just a matter of phantasy or post apocolyptic.
