Are you gonna play this game differently than you did in FFXI?

Since majority of us are FFXI vets and know how the game works was wondering if any of you will play this game in a different way than when you started FFXI.  For me I will, I'm gonna save every last item drop from mobs and start a craft early as I can.  With no economy at the start we beginners have to do our part and build one.  I think some people will just play and kill stuff while others will explore and find camps and secret NM's.  I really hope this game will be as good as FFXI because every MMORPG I played after haven't held my attention for long while FFXI held for several years.

I'm just gonna take the time to smell the roses more in FFXIV. When i started off in FFXI, i rushed a little bit to much to catch up with some friend's. Cause they already started playing the PC verison a month or two before the PS2 verison came out, and I chose to wait for the PS2 verison, because my PC at the time was a toaster oven.

This time if I find ti promising from open beta I will start playing from day 1!!

My mistake on FF XI was lack of population (well there were few people but not to the point you would be flooded with chats or group invites) so waiting for 3h+ to get in a group was boring for me and made me cancel my account.

    Things i'll probably do diffrently:

Save my gil better, I waisted so much in FFXI

level slower, in ffxi I just burned from 1-40 in a matter of like 2 weeks, and I really feel I missed alot.

Do lots of exploring! if the world is half as cool as van'dal (I know I can't spell it) then i'll try and explore every nook and cranny.

    things i'll do the same:

    Be friendly and polite.

    group to level.

try and give to the comunity, instead of just take.

    have FUN!

I'll play it mostly the same, I'm sure. Explore, have fun, take my time, enjoy all the "newb moments" I have - especially at the beginning.

A friend of mine was in a hurry and I'd always tell him to slow down and enjoy the journey. He was in a rush to get to 75 and missed out on a lot. He, predictably, burned out, stopped enjoying and left the game. He came back some time later and started from scratch. This time he took his time, got into more of what the game offers, and is still there to this day having fun. FFXI is best enjoyed, in my opinion, as a "slow burn", not a mad dash to the finish line. Not sure if FFXIV will be the same.. but I have a feeling it will.

I don't think it'll be quite the same at launch for XIV as it was for XI. MMOs were still a sort of niche, "underground" thing when XI came out and most people at the US launch were clueless as to what was going on. Now, MMOs are more mainstream and there's a lot more "know-it-alls" who will be telling others "how to play correctly", and calling everyone a n00b as soon as they've created their characters... not looking forward to that at all.

Hmmm I am going to be humming in my head "Doo De Doo De Doo"  with my cute little character, or strong interesting character(new race?) walking around, doing whatver and enjoying the game.

I am really happy that I  can take my time, kill stuff, craft, sell, talk to friends and stangers and enjoy the whole process without the looming fact that most of the population of the game has already done it all and been there. With everyone on a level playign field I look forward to playing a new FF MMO. Old FF11 vets will "all be in it together" again, and it will be fun.

Also, my motto will be- fish first, ask questions later.

Ill regularly sell items dropped and make sure I get things like signet if they exist.

I will talk to all NPCs and learn the lore and story I am playing in.

I will tell WOW vets boasting about their epeen skill that they should get out now before they reach the grind, whether or not there is a grind, just to make them feel its grindy and leave.

I will have a social LS that is open minded and jovial and that focuses on enjoyment first everythign else second.

I will appreciate the games beauty, and every drop, skill and item I receive. Everything will be appreciated and nothing will be thought of as a means towards an end, but as an end in itself and something I have accomplished. I will not treat the game as a grind to end game but as a game to be enjoyed with every step.

Lots more but I am tired. G'Night

Ya I will have to play it differently. I am not longer a student so I wont have the crazy hours to devote to the game like I did with FFXI. I still have the harcore mentality just the time of a casual player. I do not want the game dumbed down to fit my play time, I will still get to where I want to, It will just take me a little longer.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

that really is the best way to play the game though. I seriously enjoyed the exploring and appreciating the music, and everything

that really just went into making the game.

Square enix has money, and can afford to have people like nobuo on their staff. They can afford the people to finely polish

everything. Take it so, have some laughs, mess up a bit :) ... oh and make friends! even though i don't play anymore i still get the

occasional merry chrismtas phone call, it's cool <3

Vivi, the music is going to be awesome.

I don't think it has gotten the attention it deserves. I mean, not from anything I have reead about the two songs parts we have heard.

You can tell that every track is going to be amazing, as this time around Big U is doing all of them. WOOT, its going to be awhile, I think, before I am turning off the volume in favour of <insert artist here>.

I have to say there won't be too much different this go around. I pretty much took my time with ffxi with taking a little more then a year to reach 75 all the way doing missions, quests, and getting into trouble helping friends as soon as I possibly could.

If I was to change anything though, I would start crafting or gathering closer to day 1. I was about lvl 55 in FFXI before I started any of that and I had to spend money to get to where I could make enough for my lvl. I think if I started off crafting or gathering from the beginning I could grow as a all around character instead of having to play catchup with one end.

I never understood the people that spent 90% of there time xp partying in ffxi and never did anything else unless they had to so they could keep xp partying. My favorite times in ffxi were going and getting things like af for me and my friends and completing the genkais, and there different storyline missions. I was all about the missions, CoP wasn't just about a silly ring for me but the experience of different areas, the story, and the comradery I had with the group of people I did it with.

One thing I also regret is when i finally got to endgame and my main LS kind of broke i got into this me me me mode and just wanted nothing but new gear and new bosses to kill. I think next time I'll focus less on that because in all honest I had a lot more fun doing silly things like getting my friend his g1 items and all of us dieing because we pulled to many mobs then doing Dynamis 1mil times and killing proto-omega for the thousandth time.

  • The BEST BEST BEST thing about FFXI is the community. I'm gonna try to keep that spirit alive and be friendly and respectable to everyone (even the WoWheads). Many people who play mmos now have never experienced a friendly community so it would be nice to show them that it exists.

And if the WoW people are dicks? Hey, its a group orientated game (mostly), I'll know not to group with em again ;) ;). They'll learn the hard way...

    ^Agrees

Take more time to smell the roses, join more group events, document more, and craft not-for-profit. The better the story, the slower I'll go. XD

Well honestly i was one of those guys that did nothing but exp/party/af or whatever else. I had no professions and i was actually really rich. It doesn't take a craft to become rich. I would only make a craft to really benefit myself which in ffxi it took so damn long and so much work to go anywhere in crafting. I would rather dedicate my sundays to be "farming day" and i would seriously farm for about 12 hours on sunday every sunday unless i was busy.

Crafters need a way to get the high level items, and if you dedicate your time to crafting then your going to be missing out on items to people such as myself who are hearty strong and can kill the high level shit so that YOU , the crafter , can make high level items. This is where adventures such as myself make our money.
