Because I'm getting a "feeling" that you may have to use real cash in this game for some things outside the storyline, like crafting and housing, some space ships. Linear game built on top a sandbox, the linear game is free, if you want the sandbox stuff or living the high life prepare to bust out extra cash just like SL. Don't quote me, but don't say I didn't warn ya.

Depends on what you mean by "live the high life," I guess. If it's cosmetic stuff that really doesn't affect actual gameplay, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. If it's stuff that gives such a marked advantage in gameplay that it becomes nearly required to have to compete on even footing (especially in PvP), then count me out.
However, early questions about RMT were chalked up to just being simple discussion about the concept, so until I see something from BioWare or EA confirming or denying the existence of RMT in SW: TOR, I'm not going to jump to any conclusions.
So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.
Is there something in particular you read that lead you to believe this, or is this based more on accumulated data/knowledge?

If this is the case you can count me out. A monthly subscription should be more than adequate to obtain anything in game with nothing more than a little hard work. Anything else just reeks of greed.
My thoughts exactly.
Anyways, what brought this out all of a sudden? Is this truely just a "feeling" or do you actual have some sort of evidence to have lead you to this conclusion Tillamook.
Ya... I would be curious to know why the OP thinks this way.
I would definitely like to see how you came to this feeling. I know it's a popular topic to kick around, but I have not seen anything confirming this. Not to say it's not out there, I have been pretty inactive recently, but I would like to know BW's thoughts a long these lines, as this will be a game breaker for me.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
Also, in Second Life, the $9.95 monthly Premium Membership is strictly optional.
You can play totally for free and buy Linden Dollars only when you want to. I have been playing SL this way (No monthly fee) for years.
OP has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. noone knows the answer to that question is bioware. everything everyone spits out on here is speculation at best.
Agreed, but I suspect the OP is talking out of his butt.
That might work for Second Life, but how exactly would that work for ToR? Doesn't the player create basically EVERYTHING in SL? You know BioWare had to of dumped a lot of money into Voice Actors, 8 story archs and everything else. At this point I think risking payment methods is a huge no no. $15 a month with no strings attached is as fair as it gets. I also feel secure knowing my money is going to the betterment of the game, where every player has the ability to obtain the same items as the guy next to him. I just cant swallow the idea of "paying" for gear, seems like cheating, and I see no point in trying to enjoy a game that revolves around how much disposable income you have over skill.
Housing?
There is no player housing in TOR
Crafting?
Crafting is just a addon. There is at this point no talk of any real valid crafting.
Cash shop?
I expect it because these greedy companies have crossed the barrier. Used to be a MMO was monthly sub OR microtransaction. Now many are going both Monthly sub, AND Microtransaction.
It's wrong to push both on people. Players need to resist this trend , or it will just get worse.
SHOHADAKU
Housing, not confirmed or denied.
Crafting, confirmed, depth not known.
Cash Shop, not confirmed or denied.
Speculating as if you have proof? Confirmed.
*sighs* I don't go by rumor no matter how many doomsayers post it over and over again when none of us have even remotely an idea what the truth is and won't for months.
It has been widely reported that the devs have been looking at micro transactions as one of MANY different billing methods; both Bioware and Lucas arts said they were exploring different approaches but nothing is concrete.
My Colour Is Vomit green, I puke on the tards with stupid colour sigs. My symbol is ,,!, O ,!,, My enemies are any prat with a colour sig, a meaningless personality test, or a pointless list of games and classes.

Exactly right. I will tolerate a cash shop in a F2P game, as it is the only way the game can support itself (and I still won't actually BUY anything). It is not acceptable in a subscription based game.

It does suck but its true, it's the game industry as a whole. Even single player console based games not always seem to come with DLC at an extra cost. This game is starting to feel like the same old thing. Alot of people are thinking its going to be a better remake of SWG, I don't think it will be anything like SWG.
Having to pay more after a monthly sub would end it for me.
Greedy company? What is that supposed to mean?
As far as I know there is no charity like the Red Cross that makes MMORPGs.
I havent seen or read anywhere where bioware is going with a cash shop. Can you link something please?
(AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH attacks horde of stormtroopers)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.
Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
OMG SWTOR is not going to do microtransactions. Where do people get these ideas anyway? Hey next time, source or it didn't happen. Not that it would make much of a difference in this case as it should be common knowledge that payment hasn't been finalized and why would an already highly anticipated game go this route?
I have heard of possible cash shops in other pay to play games that are out nor or will b released in the future, but I have not heard about it in TOR. I read something about Champions Onling with something like that or they were considering it, and then that might go through to Star Trek Online. Not sure if i what I read was correct or not since I think I read it on these forums.
Using SL is a very strange comparison since it is not really a game. The game is free for everyone really, but if you want to own land or buy goods you either have to buy currency, or do something in the world itself to make money. So really if this was a usual game you could say that everything that could be gotten in the cash shop is available through gameplay for those that try to make money in it.
There are lots of ways to make money in SL as well, some are a bit disturbing than others. However, this would be more of something for another topic.
I think that sub is enought for any game, placing cash shop beside sub is just really too much pushing over the hedge.
Depends what they do with it. EQ2 now has a cash shop but the cash shop is all dumb usually worthless stuff (like plushies which are animated dolls, usually tiny). They do sell xp potions on there (allows you to gain xp for a certain amount of time faster) but they're very expensive with real life cash (like a four hour potion for around $20).
Its not game breaking, and people really need to chill out. So long as they don't become "everything is microtransactions", it doesn't matter.
And I don't see them doing that either. I wish to hell people would quit freaking out over this utter crap they make up themselves. Until we find out the truth FROM THE COMPANY ITSELF, its nothing more than unsubstantiated rumor by trolls meant to upset people.
Yes I want Micro transactions! In fact I am getting sick of this crap they need to make it a secret so I can buy all the gear and powers up font to WTFPWN for like $500 they would make money if they let people buy end game light sabres and chit WOOTZ!
The RMT audience is so funneh.
