Good looking women in games?! wtf!!

Is this it? are we at the turning point? am i getting old?

When i was a teen  (only yeeee high), girls who played computer games where myth-like creatures, you heard about them, in the same way i would hear about a unicorn.

If through some miracle one girl appared in the online community i could bet my hat that she would very unattractive. buuuuut.... seeing as she was a girl and I was in puberty you did find myself talking to her anyway.

a few years later...

I grew bit older topped my 20's and the women in game are now not completly uncommon. The vast majority of the consumers of games are still males but women are no longer myth-like, just very rare..

A few years later, I near my mid 20's and some women gamers are actually attractive, still they know nothing about geeky stuff, the male geek stereotyp of being superior geek is still well and truelly maintained. So discussions about system specs/programming was never going to be part of the conversation if a girl did appear. (probebly not a bad thing, as specs/binery code is really not that interesting of a conversation)

Today, when im closer to 30 then 20,

I just read a tread in the forum and found that it was posted by a rather good looking girl called Pilvot, this girl knew enough about computers to give details about her system specs and actually knew enough about computers to be able to uninstall software

following along the same trend is it possible to assume that in 5 years time, women gamers will not only be very attractive but also know about programming / specs and all geeks subjects that have been male-geek dominated?

P.S . Before you tell that your dating/dated a girl who is attractive and a geek you need to know that i have seen your girl, she is not attractive, she is attractive to you.

Also, i fear i may have doomed Pilvot to be harrasaed by geeks for the rest of her life, or untill she changes her picture to a fat uggly chick.

DUDE, are you insane?  I've been gaming for RPG gaming and then MMORPG gaming for the better part of 30 years now.  Good looking women have ALWAYS been involved in gaming.  You are just not looking in the right places.  You'd be surprised about how many women actually game.  My guild has a lot of women gamers in it.  Here is a suggestion, next year go to DragonCon or PAX.  You will be simply awed at how many women are actually involved in the community.  Most of them just hide behind a fake persona because they can't stand behing harrassed by online pervs.  Can you blame them?

Oh, and for the record, the only person who I let work on any of my computers is a female PC tech.  She knows more about computers than all the guys I know that think they are computer gurus combined.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

    Maybe its just me then,

I have seen women that are attactive playing computer games, i just rarily see them knowing geeky things about computers.

I guess im just old and dated in my opinion, maybe im just not looking, i was positivly suprised today and thought id share my discovery.

I guess i need to be more vigilant.

There are no good looking women on the internet.

Any pic they post is one they've stolen from some myspace/facebook account.

    This is their true identity:

Hold on a second here. Back up.

You're accusing someone else of being an annoying waste of space?

You just proceeded to post the kind of drivel I would deride my 13-year-old cousin for. I've kicked people out of my guild for less ignorance.

If you're 30, seriously, do us all a favour. Kill yourself. Or at the very least, make the right decision. Get a vasectomy. Don't burden our species with your shockingly inferior genes.

Ive never seen women in games, only toons. I dont doubt that some are played by women, I just doubt the players that start telling everyone they are women without anyone asking them. For the rest, who cares. Im there to play a game.

The only time video games weren't popular to women was during the Space Invader heydays (1970s-early 80s).  With the release of Pacman and Ms. Pacman games have since become more popular to women.  MMORPGs can be especially popular to women, I think Everquest had something like a 20% female population (and I'm not talking about the avatars).  Even FPS games which are one of the least popular genres for women have several attractive professional level female players (Frag Dolls).

As far as the trend about attractive women gamers knowing more and more geeky topics, that's already been happening over the last few years.  There are several attractive female gamers who work as game journalists or just geeky hardcore gamers in general.  They could list their system specs and do various geeky tech stuff.

Attractive is all relative too.  What I think is attractive you might not find attractive and vise versa.

Sorry, but OP you are coming off as sexist.

  • majimaji Member UncommonPosts: 2,091

Games become more and more popular in general. More old people play games too, for example. And the games also target specific audiences. I personally know quite some women who play computer games and some of them look quite good too. If I'd be you though, I wouldn't believe in photos on the internet. :P

The good thing about that is that the more people play computer games in general, and thus the more women play, the more you are also likely to find a woman who likes to play games, which is then something you can do together, instead of having a partner to whom you have explain each time why you want to play a game know instead of watching together with her her favorite soap opera and so on. ^^

Still, I think it's kinda silly how many guys try to find a date within a MMORPG. I sometimes play male chars, I sometimes play female chars, and especially on WoW, when I played a female char, I had very often people asking me if I'm an actual woman too. A question that seems to come from the desperate and horny teens, or the desperately horny teens.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

    Iguess i am sexist then..

I just got suprised to find an attractive women in a MMORPG,  the picture in the previous post does not demonstrates my previous understanding of women who play computer games. I dont believe they all look like that, i was just positivly suprised to find one i thought was attractive.

What i am admiting is that times have changes, and that in a few years i believe we may have women who not only are very attractive, but are as geeky as Bill Gates.

If you say that it is happening today, then I can agree with that, but "geek" is still a very male dominated term.

In broadcasting, as a broadcast engineer, i know from my own work that it is male dominated, but women are definetly branching in to our sector as well.

I think that in another 5 years the trends will continue, what you said was that 20% of EQ population was female, i believe that today, 30% could be and 10% of that 30% would be hardcore geeks and beat the crap out of most men in a"geek-off".

This is a good thing, i find it positivly suprising.

If that makes me sexist then, so be it :)

Ramzith, did it ever occur to you that maybe back when you were a wee one, those 'hot-girls' didn't talk to you because you were a tad immature? Are you still a tad immature? Perhaps you just hang out in circles that most women would find uncomfortable; I say this based on your disbelief of the matter you're posting on. I can only imagine that you and all of your ilk are of a fairly emotionally retarded group.

So I'll simply say that women gamers have been around since there has been games, and even in the worst scenarios you can still find one female gamer for every five male gamers. Today if you venture into an MMO you should notice a fairly even spread of male to female players. The reason you haven't noticed them is more than likely due to women knowing better then to spark up a conversation with you after watching some of your public displays showcasing the asshattery you seem so comfortable to wear.

Your sexist double standard dealing with 'attractive female gamers' is bunk, and can be turned right around: how many attractive male gamers are out there that the majority would claim attractive?

Regardless of what you look like in real life Ramzith, what you've posted here is ugly, and reflects poorly upon you. It's no wonder why you haven't met any women online. To give you some advice that your poor Mother should have taught your dumbass: most women don't enjoy being the center piece of your sexist mentality; women rightfully expect to be treated equally as human beings; and they really, really, don't need your shit --so pack it back up, keep your childish observations to yourself, and piss off.

While you are being extremely rude, your main point does have merit.

I very seriously doubt that women sit back and go "where are all the attractive male gamers at?"

Saying that, I do believe the OP miss spoke.  To me, he just isn't looking where the gamers normally hang out.  I'm not talking about the 15 year olds hanging out at the arcade at the mall and that sort of thing.  If you want to see where the tech savy gamers are of both sexes, go to DragonCon and go to PAX.  Conventions are a great place to meet like minded adults.

From memory, Starr Long was the hottest gamer/dev chick ever.

I think she posed for Playboy as well.

    Mmmmmmm.

    **FUCK EDIT***

Starr Long is a dude. Who was the chick that worked with John Romero before the wolrd forgot him.

    **DOUBLE FUCK EDIT**

It was Stevie Case aka Killcreek. Where the fuck did I get Starr Long from? Some kind of deeply repressed homo-erotic tendency?

Thanks Mezmiss for typing this. It saved me from having to type something similar.

Ramzith not only are you being extremely sexist but you didnt even realise it when you posted this garbage. That makes you a narrow-minded sexist. In some more backward areas of the world this is accepted and as a result people like yourself never get the chance to evolve properly......therefore I expect its not totally your fault. You just dont know any better. For you I would guess its a combination of extremely bad up-bringing from your parents (I expect your dad had a low view of women too and probably made really tacky demeaning jokes at their expense all the time) and mixing with other guys who have the same problems as you. However in more civilised places your demeaning view of women in which their physical appearance somehow reflects their intelligence and their interests is looked upon as being rather pathetic.

Sorry Ramzith but you're a complete idiot.

It's no surprise that (most) female gamers keep a low profile.

There's certainly never been a shortage of sex-starved immature males more than ready to make their lives a misery. Perhaps this thread is a good indication of that.

Piivot, which I am assuming you saw the system specs and stuff from the 45 minutes and uninstalled thread for Fallen Earth, seemed to know little or nothing about systems and hardware. The fact that she added the speed of her hdd, buffer memory, and capacity to an arguement that it was not her system that ruined her graphics shows that she was more than likely reading ths tuff of the box, or just quoting anything she could find. That is, IF she is even a she. In all your gaming time, or just internet time period, you should have known that more females are males, and that a good chunk of both the females and males use pictures from someone else, or ones from like, 30 years ago.

On top of that, the picture shows very little, pretty much just the face. And even then... The face is not that impressive. Sorry. Show me a full body picture of her, with a sign in hand that says "Hi, I am Piivot" and I will buy it. Until then, she found the single flattering picture of herself, or raided myspace pics.

There are a lot more woman online as a proportion of the gaming community than there used to be, the idea that they were always there but in hiding or something is a bit hard to believe.

Unfortunately you just can’t keep girls out of anything even the men’s social club that was once online gaming. There was a time when you knew that every player sat at his keyboard in full dinner jacket with a tumbler of whiskey in one hand and a big cigar in the other. It was a man’s world where we swapped bawdy jokes and nodded knowingly at tales of fellow guild member’s girlfriends. It was a time of real death penalties, when if a man’s Character died, he went into his study, took out his revolver and did the honourable thing.

<sound of Land of Hope and Glory>

It was an age where you kept your nose clean, chin up and did not complain about those dreadful MMO bugs, but just got on with it. If things were really, really bad, you wrote a letter to the Times via MMORPG.com. A sound education in the classics including geography were essential, and your adventurers compass and notebook sat proudly beside your computer monitor.

<drains the bottom of his whisky glass>

These days that’s all gone and all we have in place of it are our online babes....

....not a bad swap don’t you think? ;)

I wonder how the OP knows gamers are women and how good they look? I mean, don't you just see a gamers toon, usually? And besides, what does it matter?? If you want a girlfriend, go get one. It doesn't HAVE to be a gaming girl. *shrug*

And since stereotypes are such fun:

Op, if you didn’t spend your entire life in Mum and dad’s basement playing games, and got out once and a while you might meet more female gamers. For what it's worth I am considerably older than you, can guarantee I have been playing computer games longer, unless you too played noughts and crosses with punched cards on an old Burroughs mainframe, and since that  time women have been involved in gaming.

Perhaps your bigoted attitude stops them from revealing they are female, knowing you will only start drooling on your keyboard and pester them like a bad stink.

My Colour Is Vomit green, I puke on the tards with stupid colour sigs. My symbol is ,,!, O ,!,, My enemies are any prat with a colour sig, a meaningless personality test, or a pointless list of games and classes.
