Indeed you're correct. We live in a male dominated society where women have been conditioned to accept the fact that its normal for them to be depicted as sex objects and lusted over by the blokes.....so no they dont react in the same way as your typical macho bloke to that type of thing.......on the surface. Just because they're not incredibly vocal about it (ie they dont feel the need to prove how "womanly" they are to other women) doesnt mean they arent interested in looking at blokes in revealing clothes though does it. Women are interested in sex as well ya know.

So really my point is totally valid. I'm simply being open-minded. If its alright for men to oggle semi-naked women (which it is by the way) then women should have the opportunity to oggle semi-naked men (which is also perfectly fine). Whats wrong with that? Its only fair. But oh gosh that means challenging the accepted biased standards of our society! We cant have that can we.

If women liked to oggle as much as men, there would be an equal number of male and female strip clubs.

Have you noticed there are strip clubs with women taking off their clothes everywhere, but no male strip clubs at all? That's because they can't make enough money to stay in business.

Yeah and like I said thats because we live in a male dominated society where the men make the decisions and set the standards and the women just put up with it and go along with it. Then after spending years surrounding ourselves with a male created world we condition ourselves with it and say "Well thats how its always been. Thats just how it is and thats how it will always be"......and so the repeating cycle continues.

There are perhaps more strip clubs for men than there are for women (cant say for certain as its not something I've really paid attention to) because we have lived in a male dominated world for thousands of years where mens sexual desires are catered for and womens desires take a back seat. Its got nothing to do with what women would like or dislike though. In fact thats kind of the point. Womens opinion on the matter is never really considered. In fact if you say the words "strip club" to someone they immediately think of women undressing. Thats social brainwashing right there.

The only reason why a strip club for women "might" (I stress the word might) not be as popular as it is for men would be because of the social stigma attached to it all by our male led society. Do you really think women are less capable of enjoying a night out with their friends at a strip club than men? I think they would be more "up for it" than the blokes actually.

I say the focus is all wrong. Let's get some Fabio/Chippendale/banna-hammock wearing warriors out there. Oh, and hairless cats, too. Not enough hairless cats in mmo's. I want my milk to be skim, too. Why is there never enough Skim Milk in mmo's?

As for myself, I'm rather jaded against the typical "Universal Laws of Anime" in mmo's, i.e,

"#34 - Law of Probable Attire

Clothing in anime follows certain predictable guidelines. Female characters wear as little clothing as possible, regardless of whether it is socially or meteorologically appropriate. Any female with an excessive amount of clothing will invariably have her clothes ripped to shreds or torn off somehow. Whenever there is a headwind, a Male characters will invariably wear a long cloak which doesn't hamper movement and billows out dramatically behind him.

First Corollary (Cryo-Adaptability) - All anime characters are resistant to extremely cold temperatures, and do not need to wear heavy or warm clothing in snow.

Second Corollary (Indecent Invulnerability) - Bikinis render the wearer invulnerable to any form of damage.

Thrid Corollary - No sort of clothing, whether it be a leather body suit or full body armor will in no way encumber its wearer."

Granted, the majority of players *may* be male adolescents, (regardless of chronological age), and it amuses me when it's "okay" to have next-to-nothing armor for female characters, but heaven forbid you have an effeminate looking male character. All male characters must be modeled after Thor, or somesuch.

So, if the OP is sarcastic= +1 support

if the OP is "serious", then go imagine your mom in the armor of your choice.

that's my story, and I'm sticking to it., Nyah!

LOL...gettin a whole bunch off topic here ain't ya. And a wee bit serious. Perhaps you should take this up in the 'off topic' forums.

This is about GAMES! ENTERTAINMENT! FUN! What it comes down to men like to look at the skimpy dressed women in games. Men tend more to buy a product based on the cover. Men are usually the target audience that gaming companies are after.

The Sears catalogue will have 300 pages dedicated to womens clothes, another 200 for kids and 5 pages for mens clothing. Why is that? Perhaps because clothing departments mostly rely on women for the sales, so they target what women like. Goto a mall, it is obvious that malls are made to target womens tastes. The malls are 90 percent of stores to target women.

Get over yourselves with the whole male dominant society. It's obvious that women and men have different tastes and ways of looking at things. Companies that sell products to either sexes keep that in mind when selling a product.

Studies show that when you track eye movement of men and women that look at magazines with sexy men and women in them, BOTH the men and the women look more at the women than at the men.

The men look at the women because they think they are sexy, the women look at the women to compare, see how they measure up, do they like that dress, etc.

yes, there is no doubt that women like to look at sexy men, but not near as much as men like to look at sexy women.

It's not society, not that women arent' allowed to look at men, or any of that baloney. The two sexes react differently to different stimulus. Imagine that.

The plain fact is, women can have babies and men can't. In other words, the two sexes are not exactly the same, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's silly to argue that women and men are exactly the same.

    More revealing outfits?

How about more choice for both genders?

I'm sure there are plenty of admirers of the female form, but what about the admirers of the male form, I'm sure there are plenty of straight women & gay men that would quite enjoy some more options for the male characters to be dressed up in & for those players of female characters then they should be able to cover up if they so choose, variety is the spice of life, if everyone on earth walked around stark-bollock naked the appeal of ogling the human body would be a billion times less interesting for everyone.

Personally I would welcome an MMO that takes the in-game weather conditions into account along with the profession/role of the character.

Nearly-naked female (or male for that matter)  tanks is just bloody ridiculous to me, but there should be a choice, & if I was given the design reigns I could create plenty of armour designs that both appeared to offer the requisite protection & yet still looked very sexy & attractive.

Almost naked, or wearing very skimpy outfits would be the domain of wizards, sorcerors, magicians, necromancers, psionicists etc etc, if the weather is nice that is.

Swimming would be when all would strip down to bathing suits for a dip, or go nude.

Why do women need clothes?? Lol

To be honest it was good for few first MMORPG I played, but later you just think: "why didnt I kill her in one hit? she doesnt have any armors".

If MMORPGs would include various missions for different classes I would say "why not?" because assassins wouldnt put much clothes on as not to hinder their speed and stealth. But now to go face to face battle without any armors is just plain stupid.

  • ChealarChealar Member Posts: 268

[sarcasm inside] Oh but they are ninja-trained and can avoid any hit! [/sarcasm inside]

Honestly is you need more in a game than what the infamous "Eve Honnie" have shown us, you have a problem man.

ok, here's the deal. Every guy who logs into an MMO and creates a female toon, under-dressed and looking like his version of a wet dream/street walker should have the right to see that .... but, and this is the fun part, that toon should be displayed to every other player in game as a gangly male nerd in a flouro yellow banana-hammock ...

If only I was a developer, oh the fun I could have!!!!!

Ah the fun amount of rage a post like this creates. It is enjoyable to see people boil over on both a joke thread and pixels. Oh noes there are fake women in a fake world where there is magic and resurrection, goblins and flying horses. They need to wear realistic armor that covers them fully!!!!

People need to relax, especially the women responding who are angry about the objectification of women because they themselves are not attractive enough to be objectified and are now jealous of pixelated toons, runway models and Scarlett Johansen (how dare she be so hot, shame on her!).

Who cares if pixels run around fully covered or fully nude in a fake fantasy world. Congrats to the OP for making a sarcastic post that got so many panties in a bunch. And damn Soul Caliber for constantly making the women's boobs bigger and bouncier, they destroyed the world with those bouncy boobies. I hear they are in fact the reason that there is so much plastic surgery.

Being the one who brought up objectification i feel i should point out IM A GUY. And i feel sorry for you if you dont feel this is an important issue. The reason unhealthy and unrealistic depictions of women have become so harmful its their prevalence in ALL media, including MMOs. Its not just what Ralph Lauren did to Filipa Hamilton. Ofc youve never experienced this yourself, but i had to see an old ex of mine go from being a hot healthy looking woman to what i can only describe as a naked mr. Burns... And revealing outfits go hand in hand with that, im pretty sure no one wants to see Bruce Vilanch in one.

Caring about body image doesnt make you shallow or stupid. Whatever the OPs intent he did brought a legitimate subject of discussion to the table. And to make it clear im not against the revealing outfits themselves, or even nudity. People should have as much freedom as developers can reasonably afford to make their avatars look however they feel best represents their characters.

And for the guys reposting the pixelated drag queens could you please knock it off? Nothing against diversity but it kinda grosses me out...

    Just to make things clear...
I speak for myself and no one else, unless i state otherwise mine is just an opinion. A fact is something that can be independently verified, you may challenge such but with proof. You have every right to disagree with me through sound argument, i believe in constructive debate, but baseless aggression will warrant an unkind response.

I pray so hard to everything that is holy that we don't have to. But something tells me someone will just to spite me. Come on! Bring it!

That aside, I'm thinking that the seriousness turn of events kinda draws the discussion towards a larger matter which isn't (at least in my opinion) entirely necessary. Yes, female characters are having a trend towards less and less clothing. But I wonder though if this will continue to evolve to such a point wherein the male specimen will no longer be aroused by the lack of clothing (or maybe even the absolute nudity) of women!

On a side note, I LOL'd at the clothes to defense is inversely proportional bit.
