Blizzard caught in the sun!

I, myself dont have WOW (yet... just a few more days!), but i am hearing a lot of things about "too many players" and "servers always down". All i have to say is, Blizzard should have been prepared for the masses, and masses, and masses of players. They did what all mmorp' games should never do: UNDERESTIMATE. I think they should run another stress-test, and expand some of the servers a bit.

What do you think?

The experience of servers and lag is kind of subjective. By that I mean, some servers experience an incredible load and as such the associated problems with that load. Other servers run just fine, even during peak and prime time.

I believe they are up to 88 servers now which should help the load balance issue.

I know the servers are different from server to server, I play across 4 different servers, including one PvP, and my experience is either awesome to sometimes mildly frustrating.

In case any of that helps ;-)

It's pretty easy to avoid the problems.  When signing up, make sure your character is on a Low or Medium population server.

Also, read between the lines.  If a level 60 player says "These problems are so bad I can never play!" clearly they are stretching the truth a bit.

What about overestimating then? Let's say you develop a MMO, with a solid license, which you believe will sell very well. You plan to sell 600,000 units in the first month, with ppl creating accounts and millions of characters. You put up 125 servers to accomodate them.

One month after launch, your MMO is doing OK, but just like other big MMO. You sold 100.000 units. That's it. All your servers are low population, and it's costing you money for hardware, maintenance and bandwith.

See? It ain't simple. I don't think Blizzard could have expected how huge their success would be. At any rate, they had put 44 new servers within 4 days after launch, which is pretty fast for that amount of hardware to be setup. I believe they're trying hard to give us satisfaction. But they have a "nice" problem, they are flooded by the demand.

Well, the servers are fine.  The game is stable.  They have thousands of players playing and they are handling it well.  But no new players can enter, cause they stopped production.

I don't care, I got my copy, and I'm playing.  You should of all just had faith in Blizzard  and bought the game sooner, then you would be in the game. image

Blizzard said they will resume distribution as soon as they are ready to allow more players to enter without slowing down the servers.

Why do they still advertise it on their website to buy, and why can you still purchase it without any indication that you're going to be waiting awhile for them? Infact they even say the product will ship by 12 PST.

Not accusing you of lying, but not understanding this if they are still selling it just fine.

I agree with what most other people have said.  If you dont want any lag, you just need to play on a server with low or medium population.  Speaking personally for myself, I play on a high population pvp server (Stormreaver) and rarely have lag problems.  Just today my best friend was having lag problems a few times.  Blizzard ran a 16 hour maintenance on a lot of servers just the other day to try to correct this problem.  Unforchanetly it was not on my server, so I cannot speak for anyone as to if it fixed the problem.  From what i've seen everything they have done to reduce lag has worked, so I think its pretty fair to assume this maintenance either fixed or improved the problem.

No I'm not a blizzard lover, this is my first game from them.  I'm speaking purely from playing a few MMOs and finding this to be the most smoothly run and great tech support.   So just choose a server with low population, you'll do fine.
