Prob an internal date for when the product should be ready. Then they need to test it. And rework stuff n test again and so on and so on. I still think its not gonna relase before 2013.
in 2013 we'll all be talking about the TOR sequel, heh
that is, unless the mayan long-count calendar thingie is true and time stops on 21-dec 2012

The world doesn't end so much as the Great Powers fight to see who will become the Archtype of the new cycle. World being remade is always a possibility, but we might not remember that anyway....;-)
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
Now I know we all get caught in hype, false information and guesses, but Sean over at BioWare pointed at this article today, could it be that TOR will be out in January? www.icv2.com/articles/news/16016.html
I'm certainly no expert but I would bet against this happening wether it is even a target time they anticipate having the game ready for release. Honestly I think it is beyond all of us to actually say how playable the game is at this point the rumors of this game being worked on persisted for years before it became official but the industry in general usually doesn't move this fast so I would bet against them.
I also wouldn't be too concerned if they did release then Bioware is an industry leader making it's first foray into mmo's it would not be a big surprise for them to be a pioneer in "time management" though nothing in the past with them really points that way. In my experience there are a few companies who seem to work on a shorter developmental time frame than others Cryptic seems to work pretty fast while Funcom,SOE, and maybe Blizzard I think move a bit slower, most for different reasons than others.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

The calendar can mean multiple things to nothing at all. There is "services" offering protection from 2012, things ranging from vaults to space stations. And people are dumping thousands of dollars to be "safe". It's pretty hilarious how fast humanity can tank to stupidity. Speaking of getting tanked, 21 dec 2012 is a friday, hell yeah, looks like I won't be sober for the end of the world. My first place of looting, where is the closest Marlboro factory?
Well lets see, we have a 4 tabs on the holocron left, an unknown amount of planets left to release, and 4 classes. Not to mention more timeline videos, of which, judging on the tabs, we seem to have about 15 more. Even if they do release 1 timeline movie per week, that would mean 15 more weeks. If they intended to keep some of those timelines for after release, we will have atleast 8 weeks left judging on the current trend of information release.
I really doubt well see this game release by January of 2010.
LOL... boy, I am still laughing tears out of this. They spoil the launch out of mistake? XD God, nothing against Bioware and TOR, but this game is really plagued by mistaken statements. Lol... if the game is as entertaining as the production of it, I buy a lifetime sub for sure, hahaha!
Just because it was leaked doesn't mean it was accidentally leaked
Accidentally leaked LOL....dont be so sure about that. I point out the accidental leak of the Cataclysm XPAC for WOW a week before blizzcon. Comeon, how can anyone be so nieve about that stuff. Everyone knew that Blizzard was going to announce something and OMFG they did...imagine that. I beleive its a tactic that the companies use in order to drive sales and gain hype and mostly these leaks are intentional!
I can't remember what happened in most other MMORPG releases. Did they announce the release with more or less than 3 months prior to the release? Seems like it would be at least 3 months for most AAA games? I don' tthink they would go, games hits the shelves....next month! You need time for some hype, advertising, etc. And forum hype doesn't count, I"m talking hype for the other 99% of people that play video games.
True enough, though i do believe that this game has generated so much hype and attention that (and i point out this thread) forum trolls and regular everyday people are eargerly searching for the release date for TOR. BTW no offence to the original poster intended.
However, like alot of people have pointed out, including Bioware themselves, this mmo (to quote a famous movie line) "Is fully armed and operational", just have to add the final touches.

No freaking way this game is coming out in January. They're not even calling this phase of testing that hasn't even started yet beta, and according to the announcement of testing, will be in several phases over a span of months.

If it works anything like Global Agendas testing (which sounds extremely similar), the phases test selected areas of the game, say phase one wil test 1-10 and anything and everything you are capable of doing at those levels, and it would carry on like this. Which in my opinion is a good way of doing it.
But no, the game sure as hell wont be out in January, no damn way.
You know im not saying it wouldnt be great for the game to be out by january, but it just doesnt seem realistic with what we have seen so far and them just being in alpha stage 6 months ago. A januray date makes me uneasy.
The article says AMAZON.COM has it slated for January 1st.
Now, listen. I worked at gamestop. I know that these companies just put down phony release dates on items when they don't have real ones. In the beginning of the year, it's usually April, middle of the year, it's usually November and towards the end of the year, when they know a game is coming out in the next year, but they don't know when, it's january and February.
It is NOT coming out in January.
If it did, that would be a great birthday present, though. *hint hint*
I really just dont see how this game is coming out in just 3 months time. There is no way in 3 months they can release a game that is supposedly a game that is huge in scale. Unless the game is a single player instanced to death mmo game.
Well...the signs are certainly pointing that way.
Umm, no. There are no signs that say this game is coming out in 3 months. Beta is usually a 3-6 month process, and its hasn't even started yet. Calm down, and quit being gullible.

Totally off topic - I just wanted to comment on that totally awesome signature you have Mrroboto, where did you get the pic from?
"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"
Not sure where he got it, but I have had the full pic hosted here on the site for some time.

You assume too much intelligence in companies.
I really can't see Jan 2010 being realistic, there is far too much hype, and marketing to be done to squeeze it all into 2 and a half months.
Maybe summer 2010... like end of summer-ish, even then I wouldn't hold my breath.
If I had to bet I would say Q3 of 2010.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

I gotz a 300,000 BTU WTFBBQ!
There is no way this game will be released in 6 months.
Christmas 2010.
I think we have too little information to even know when it might be released. I think 6 months is reasonable... but will it happen? Who knows.
Personally, I want it as soon as possible, but I don't want them to rush it. With Bioware behind it, that shouldn't be a problem.
Agreed
Uhh... what?
Agreed
Oh, but it was just a wild guess. I used a dart to determine that date. STO will be out in May 2010.
