1) Why in the world are there no potions in this game? How can I heal myself in battle when the game exactly not very popular right now to find clerics to "tag along"? o.0
2) How can you spot things that you need to harvest? In other games, for your specific skills you gather.. it'd tell you. I cannot find anything on trees that says "Cut me down!!"
3) Why is there a global cooldown on skills? Maybe .5 seconds would help..
I like the game so far, but.. the harvesting one is frustrating me the most :P
No, Im not stupid.. I went all over the place trying to "harvest" but I don't see anything but trees smilin' back at me.
The maps really need to be fixed. Green trees, yay. Nice, pretty.. More, please. One dot at a time per quest? /facepalm

Harvesting: Two ways to tell, one is the fact that a harvestable resource is named in white letters, so as opposed to a tree that has no name, a tree that can be harvested might say, Weak Purpleberry tree. Of course with tress the name is at the top of the tree, so I guess you have to look up. Second, your cursor turnes into a pickaxe tool when hovered over a harvestable recource.
So, there's that.
Currently playing: Vanguard: SOH
Thanks guys. I have another question.
Is there some sort of an add-on where the maps can be filled with POI's and uh dots to find harvesting nodes, ect??
Im surprised this game hasn't really been updated since it's release.. to make it more easier for everyone, you know? lol.
I keep telling myself not to quit yet! :P
Which server are you playing on?

Yes, there are add-ons goto www.vginterface.com/ and look around . It can be alittle tricky to use the add-ons in this game but if you follow the directions you should be able to do it with minimal trouble.
My thought is that you are picking on somewhat silly things.
No potions? Well, becuase there aren't any.
Instead of saying "this game doesn't have what x, y and z games have" I would ask you to take it for what it is.
I first wondered at potions myself. Only to then realize that some classes have ways of self healing and for those classes it's built into the skill set as part of combat.
I was once in a fight on my dread knight and realized that I had gotten one too many adds. I could have panicked, I could have ran away but what I did do was to take advantage of every skill I had. One little number allows me to teleport in back of the enemy and attack for a certain amount of healing. So I essentally road out the fight, all the while taking advantage of this ability nad was able to get out alive with "just enough" health to make me laugh.
This game is the type of game where you have to take it for what it is. It isn't like many games and then of course it is.
I'm not sure what game you are coming from but my sense is that it is one of the more modern games.
If you just immerse yourself into the world of Vanguard and can be a little kind to its creakiness you might find an exceptional place to play. have fun!
As far as the map issue, that is an interesting one. When I first started playing Vanguard I could't stand the map. Then I realized that it was just a guide and that I had to rely upon paying attention to the land around me as opposed to just looking at a dot or arrow to show the way.
Somene added the link to the interface add on so that should help with crafting.
I think it's also important to add that the game orgially was designed with heavy grouping in mind. This was one of the reasons that I didn't originally play it. I'm not sure what changes were made but I find it a lot more solo friendly.
Having said that, it also means that there is a certain sense of danger. I like this. In LOTRO I rarely died. In Vanguard I know I can die if I'm not careful. For me this is a draw. Some might not enjoy this though but I feel it does add to gameplay.

Heh, this makes me understand the game a bit better.. considering I'm a DK myself. It's kinda of hard to fight alone especially a couple of adds involved. I died a lot because the skills are a bit slow, but I'm still learning. Only level 8 and I can't get off the island just yet. [pockets all empty til further notice] :P It may be a bit frustrating for me a first, but I'm starting to like the game a bit more every day. It's surely a lot to get used to, I'd admit. I like the way harvesting works.. Haven't done crafting though. Still trying to find one to train.
Modern games? Sorta. I tried a lot of games out there such as CoH/CoX/Tabula Rasa/Eve/Lotro/DAoC/Ryzom and others. I like a mix.. not exactly a picky person Thanks for some of your insight on it, btw.
Thank you.
I decided to leave it the way it is for now since the ones they made are uhm, tacky.
Did attempt to use Infomaps but the game wouldn't load despite the instructions I've followed.
Reminded myself that the game is old and the addons could be too
Which server are you playing on?
Xeth
I would recommend going Artificier -> Carpentry to make your own boat, or at least find a way to get a boat, it makes traveling a lot easier while leveling... from what I understand.
Thanks for the suggestions. I did become an artificer..I couldnt find carpentry trainer yet.. Is there really one in Sun Village or isn't?
Thank you.

You might want to get the latest drox UI. Drox has been around for awhile and is probably one of the best sets.
www.vginterface.com/downloads/info141-DroxUI2.6.9.html
It might include infomap as well.

Another tip, milk the trial island for all it's worth. You can make a lot of money and it's a great place to experience all the aspects of the game. Max out adventuring, crafting, and diplomacy. BTW diplomacy will make you a lot of money.
Follow the tutorials carefully this game isn't wow and things like crafting and diplomacy are quite a bit more complicated and involved and you will definitely need to read the tutorials if it is your first time.

Cool, will do.
Is EQII more active now?
It was so empty last time I played.
I wouldn't mind going back lol.
Try Infomap. It is an addon with points of interest, possible harvest node, etc. The infomap come with other UI require the complete UI to be installed.

EQ2 like any game that has been out awhile is pretty much top heavy. There are lots of people in the upper levels but not a lot in the lower level areas. Esp the 1-20 zones as these you can run through in 8-10 hours. But if you get in a good guild and get up past 20 people will usually be happy to come mentor and help do the lower level areas.
I think vanguard is a great game. But my wife loves eq2 and twists my arm to play
