This was my problem as well. I had quit WAR after 7 months and needed something to tide me over. I ordered Aion but with all the excitement of FFIV I went back to FFXI. Luckily, my character was reactivated, 3 level 75ers, several 50ers, high crafting, and still some friends in the game. This saves at least 2 years of casual playtime lol.
I have played Aion during the day when waiting for FFXI servers to get busier and have leveled a SM to 11. I do like the cutscenes trying to get you in the story and I love the character customization. one thing I always wished was a better customization in FFXI. After so many years, they could have done a patch for more character models, haircuts, tatoos, etc.
if you have a high level character from FFXI, bring em back ^^
Because it's from the makers of FFXI. They're taking an already great game and improving on it. They're improving the solo aspect and adding a skill based system, and streamlining quests more, how can you not be excited for this game?
Perhaps not everyone is a FF fan ?
Obviously the ones that are FF fans think its worth waiting so why not go troll some other forums.
IMO not one of the new MMO's are even worth playing. Its best to just stick with single player console games atm. Thats what these new MMO's are set up as anyways. We got Demons soul (ps3 exclusive), Dragon age origins, (all platforms), White knight chronicals (Ps3 Exclusive), and If your into FPS COD4 modern warefare II.

I am a PS3 fanboy however I am a bigger game fanboy.
I also own a 360. Nothing good is coming to 360 in terms of RPG's or I would have no problem playing it. If it makes you feel better I am currently playing Infinate undiscovery which is made by SE and a 360 exclusive. And Lost odyssey is the best RPG on the next gen consoles (IMO), and its also a 360 exclusive.
Lost Odyssey is pretty good huh? might have to check that out, I finished Oblivion this spring and just picked up Blue Dragon but its a pile of crap (not suprising, I picked it up in a bargain bin for 7bucks....so no real loss)
Anyways but yeah i'm hoping that Dragon Age will be good. it looks exelent so far.

Wait I hope the OP knows that the PvP in XIV will be similar to XI something for fun and you get no kind of reward for it.
Also I would recommend Fallen Earth it is a really decent game.
