Best free MMORPG

I was wondering what is the best free MMORPG out right now?

I have played MU, Dark Eden and RYL but was not complatly statisfied, i have tried one of

Guild Wars beta test weekends and i think will be the best free MMORPG soon.

Could anyone post some advice on any other good MMORPG?

How does that have any relevance to what he asked? No one cares what it is, if they enjoy it then good enough.

To OP, why not try some P2P games? Your profile says your 20, so whats the problem with P2p especiallt since they are generally much better games than free ones.

Rubies of Evenide or however its spelled is pretty poular, and so is Runescape even though I find it horrible. Actually Runesacpe is only free until level 39, but I doubt youll be able to stand it longer than to get level 2.

What are you talking about? Runescape Classic is free...for however long it takes for you to quit or go to 3D. Your thinking of Priston Tale, thats free to lvl 39, not Runescape.

PS. are there any games out there with a 5-10 monthly fee? i can afford that...but not 12-15.

Off the top of my head, the only game I know that is that cheap is The Realm Online. It is a PvE style game, Fantasy, level based game. Graphics and sound are very substandard but the people in it are great. If you liked the C64 graphics, you will love this game. Very, very "old style" if you know what I mean.

Graal is really cheap. Around $30 a year and you can get extras like V.I.P or your own server. The servers are around $100 and they're hacked very easily though. ::::05::

In April, Guild Wars will be out.  It is a purchase of approx 49.99 and has no monthly fee.  Its got great graphics, and a decent interface.  Cool concepts and storyline too.  They are having beta events every month too.  That's the one I'm onboard for, as the price is right for me.  heh.

Only online games I've ever played are AC.  I've beta tested a few, of which some are no longer around, but AC is the only one I've paid for.

Forget free mmo's, try free private servers. This is taking a popular game, like DAoC, and some guys making a free "privately owned" server out of it. Check it out, if you will.

Anarchy Online is currently the best free MMORPG.

    http://www.anarchy-online.com/content/downloads/

Click on the download option that says "free". You have until January 15th to make your free account so act now LOL!

Runescape is the next best, most well known free MMORPG. There is also Astonia 3, and TDZK, and Strive For Power, among many others.

What's with that 15 Jan cutoff date for Anarchy Online i keep hearing about? Here's the 'terms and conditions' when you signup there (btw you do not need to give any credit card details, so i guess it's a nobrainer to sign up) :

The offer is only valid if you sign up a new Anarchy Online account prior to December 31st 2005. Should Funcom deem that a too high-increase in server load or other unforeseen events will lessen the experience for existing players the offer will be terminated at our discretion. The free version does not include access to any of the three expansion packs.

As for free MMORPGs i've enjoyed so far:

Planeshift [http://www.planeshift.it] . It's still in some form of Beta testing, but it has some of the best graphics i've seen on a free/open source mmorpg. Client is about 220MB

Rubies of Eventide [http://www.cyberwar.com]. Looks to be a final, very descent for a free game. There are optional payment options for extra quirks [i.e. bypassing server limits], but i haven't needed that so far. Defintely worth a try , client is a 400MB download.

Now if Runescape is that Java-browser game, sorry i didn't really like that. It's ok for a lunch hour break, but i wouldn't play that an entire night or something.

  • templarxtemplarx Member UncommonPosts: 181

ok, not sure what exactly the Anarcy Online's policies is. The email i received has this version:

*The offer is only valid if you sign up a new Anarchy Online account
between the 15th of December 2004 and 15th of January 2005. You can
play free of charge until 11 2006. This offer is subject to termination
at any time and without cause, especially if a too high-increase in
server load or other unforeseen events will lessen the experience
for existing players. The free version does not include access to any of
the three expansion packs. Should you wish to upgrade to any of the
expansion packs monthly subscription and client fees will be added.
No rain checks. Offer is void where prohibited by law. Funcom reserves
the right and the sole discretion to cease to provide any service and or
software described in this publication to all users or any number thereof
    at any time without warning.

So i guess it's 15 Jan [but my guess is they'll prolly let it float longer depending on server load :P] It's afterall an advertising gimmick.

Jesus F'in Christ wrong again. Runescape classic AND 3D or both free, for as long as you dont want to play for members. Hell, you can even hit lvl cap without playing, you jus cant wear dragon weapons or armors (which are only a few more attkdef more, but I mean, that game is cheap anyways, so if youre into it, jus P2P).

Pristontale is free till lvl 38 or 39. Totally different game. No tradeskills. No femalemale for each class. Nothing to do cept fight fight fight grind grind grind get KSed, get looted by random noobs andor high lvls who are jus too fucktarded to kno any better........

Thats why P2P games are better. They can actually AFFORD GMs! N decent storyline, game design, gfx, etc! You wont get that in free games.

If you dont have enuff time for a game, try a game that is pay per hour, or something along those lines. Its still 100x better than free games, especially the community part of it. Or if youre looking to casual game, find a game thats more geared towards casual gaming.

I really hate freeloaders, especially when they say "blah blah sucks" (when they dont have a credit card, so its obvious theyve never even tried it), I hate freeloaders who wont even give P2P games a chance.. N then call themselves gamers.

You dont kno MMOs unless youve paid for MMOs. Theyre so, so, so, SO much better than any junk freeopen beta (meaning longer than 1-2 week open beta).

Anyways, back on topic, find a real game. Free sucks. Or go play PS2, Xbox, watever, cuz anything else will totally blow free MMOs away.

EDIT: To take out the sig

  • patheospatheos Member Posts: 1,148

I know Runescape 3D is free...i never said it wasnt. "To quit or go to 3D" means once you go there you will hate runescape just like every other sane person. What i was getting at was classic...even though they both suck, is better, so i didnt include 3D because Runescape made a HUGE mistake doing this, so manday...back off please.

Runescape is a league above any other free MMORPG...

There is so much to do and it is good how you can explore a huge 3D world.

But in my mind what happens when you get sick of Runescape???

    What can you play then?

I believe Anarchy Online has extented that 1/15/05 cutoff for the free year of play.

  • SeldonaSeldona Member Posts: 35

If I were you I would get the free AO account as soon as possible. Trust me, you will not regret it. And they just announced that they will be extending the free year even longer.

They also mentioned that they are going to work towards making at least some version of AO free permanantly, though I am not sure how they will do it.

Well worth looking into compared to the rest of the free offerings out there.

And I tried personal servers of other games, and just could not get into it. Don't like worrying about getting sued or whatever.

Hasn't happened yet, but I believe it will one day. And as someone who owns and produces some copyrighted material, I know how I would feel if others ripped off my work.

    Just my 2 cents.

Ok, downloaded the 800mb Anarchy Online client and i must agree. Of all the free mmorpgs i've tried, this beats them all hands down [given you're not seriously anti-sci-fi]. May the service remains free for the rest of the year :P

I've been trying to play AO, It's kind fun, but it is really hard for me to get in to. After playing games like AC and DAOC it's just kind a weird set-up. It also is really laggy compaired to other games that are that old. I still need to play it more to get a good feel for it though.

I died once, it hurt like hell.

Just for the record, I have played RuneScape for a long time, and I am not a member. I think there is plenty to do in non-member's mode, and my sister has signed up as a member but I don't want to until I am at least level 60. There is also no level limit for non-members, but there are a few skills and a huge map that only members get, not to mention all the special quests and armor and other items. I personally think the new RuneScape is the best free MMORPG out there right now, but that's a matter of opinion I guess.
