This is not a comprehensive review because I don't want to waste too much breath(typing) on this issue. I payed 50 bucks for this game that came with a 30 day subscription and played this game for two solid weeks. I simply did not wish to even finish out my subscription because this game does not warrant anymore time wasted on it. This is the type of game that you have to join on day 1 so you can have more or equal stats to everyone else who plays against you. If your a new comer to this game plan on getting killed all the time for no reason. After getting killed a few times I joined a guild for some protection. Things started going pretty good until I got ganked even worse because now enemy clans can kill me in town. The only way to tell if a clan is an enemy is to mouse over them. Good Luck with that. Basically this game is setup so that high skilled players prey continuously on the weak new players. Now the killing I don't care about but who can play a game where your not safe anywhere, anytime? It's just not fun. Even old school UO had protected areas and it worked because low level players could improve their skills to a point where they might actually be able to take someone on. There is a balance that is needed in these kinds of games that if not present makes the game a drag to play. This game does not have that balance.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that my post was for those jack asses that don't know how the game mechanics work before they play the game.

I'll have to remember to put that disclaimer on my post next time.

Orange part is wrong and if you were in a clan you wouldn't be hanging out newbie areas anymore. BTW, the game was orignally designed to not even have towers in towns. There weren't suppose to be safe zones at all.

I think he is right on the orange part, but that's because we don't have any skillcap in Darkfall. New players will be to far behind old players the way it is now. If you are a casual player you are simply fucked. Sure you can hang in the skirt of the older players if you are in a big guild, but that's not fun. This is why Darkfall don't have any new blood.

He is wrong on the other part, if he is an old school UO player. There were no safezones in old UO, not even the major citys. Me and friend sometimes killed blue players at Britt bank. Timed explotions and an e-bolt killed most players. Sure we got a count and got guardwhacked, but that count was gone the next day due to the 8 hour rule.

The alligment is DF is prettey fucked up as there is absolutly no penalties for being red. I have several times been killed and looted  when I smelt my ore in NPC towns. And I'm not in a guild. Sure the killer get a murdercount, but that system is broken. He just have to kill his alt or a friend for a few minutes and he's blue again.

Yeah, darkfall is cool in concept, but rather broken in application. The only way to enjoy the game is to play it religiously. Not a game for the casual.

Since the patch you can have high level skills in magic and melee in 1 month of regular play.

  • daarcodaarco Member UncommonPosts: 4,276

But if you dont like that, there are hundreds of safe and easy MMOs to play. DF offers a different kind of gameplay. For those that want that.

Yeah, your gonna need to define what PVP "maxed" means to you Xpiher. Also, tell the crowd how many hours it takes in one month and how its done since you've got it down to a science. I think your blowing smoke man.

Depends on how good your aim is and how good of a player you are. If you suck really bad thats going to incrase your time, if you are really good then you'll take less time.

PvP "max" means being PvP competeive. You become competeive when you have 1 school of magic maxed or 2 schools at 70ish, 280-300 HP (depending on how good you are), high Rigor, witches brew, and 1 2h mastery.  If you know how to level stats, how to level magic effectively, what mobs to farm, etc you will get that in a month of about 20-35hrs of game play, again depending on how good or poor you play.

Edit: The science of leveling in darkfall

Bow Bowyer make 10k arrows by farming your own resouces, this will also level all the key stats. You don't need to do this first, but it will save some time to get it out of the way.

    Do all the newbie quest

Get a decent supply of crap gear: padded, leather, scale, whatever by farming mobs with whatever you have. Make sure you are using a rank 0 weapon or better not the starter/conscript weapon.

    Grab all T1 title quest

Use those 10k arrow to level archery while completing the T1 title quest. Be sure to have a skinning knife with you. Enchanting materials are good for selling to make money. Horde the money, resources, and regents you get from the quest to level magic. While leveling archery, level lesser magic by using MM and heal self until you out of manna. Once archery is to 25 buy the skill. If you get bored with archery use the T1 quest to level melee as well. Do these or continue farming these mobs until you are about 50 LM, 50 melee, 50 archery

    Level rigor on browines

Grab all title t2 quest and level GM to 50, and melee, WC, and archery to 75. Complete all those quest while hording the resouces that you don't use to cast your Greather Magic or WC skills. If you are shy on skill level in one area get it up on these same mobs (since they are about your skill level for soloing anyways).

If you did the above you should be ready for PvP while in a large or compent group, and ready to farm hard mobs without doing the title quest. You'll know about a lot of mobs and what they drop. If you still aren't sure whats good to farm at this point take a look at my guide, or do the t3 quest (good for money and introducing you to new mobs).

Nice guide. Is it that easy? I think not. If your a newb in the game and don't know anyone it's not exactly going to happen like that.

If you do wish to go against the majority vote like I did to give this game a shot then try to follow Xpiher's guide and watch your back wherever you go cause theres going to be plenty out there wanting to kill you and take those 10k arrows that you worked so hard to make while your low on health fighting newb mobs. Darkfall is the type of game that highly encourages and rewards this type of behavior and the players seem to enjoy it.

Or, you can play smart and not take all your arrows with you. Take 100 at a time, join a clan as soon as you log into the game, or hell even only farm with 50 at a time. But yes, it is that easy. Are those numbers exact for arrow... probably not, but it will start you off. Darkfall doesn't reward play styles, dumb players do. If you go out with a lot of stuff or don't bank often and die its your fault that you lose all that your brough. Basically, never go out with more than you are willing to lose. In fact, when you are just starting the game, don't take anything with you but a r0 weapon.

10,000 / 50 = 200 trips to the bank. Lets say you can handle 3 trips to the bank a day before getting really bored. Cause that does kind of suck to spend most of your time running far far away  to the newb spawns that arent completely camped by Player Killers. Might I add that in this game you move about as fast as a 90 year old grandma and it could  take you 10 - 15 minutes just to arrive at a semi safe newb hunting spot if some random kILLerMoReJack doesnt decide to run by and gank you along the way.  200 / 3 = 66 consecutive days of monotonous grinding just to max out a few skills and that is not factoring in getting killed at all by a Players or NPCs.

The absolute smartest move you can make is to never waste your time with this game. Period.

If you think killing NPCs is monotonous, why would you buy a game that is clearly not a theme-park game? The newbie starting areas are just a minute or two from the bank so your 10-15 minute travel is quite an exaggeration.

If you dont know anyone, its not a game for you. You have to be grouped to enjoy darkfall. Solo in darkfall is impossible because its a game where you have to get a well organized guild. When you play Df, you have to think that you are just 1 unit of marine from starcraft. Without an army, 1 zergling can eat you easy. With a group of marines vs a group of zerg, marines with drugs on always win. You can build tower, build ship. So this make it more clear that you are just 1 unit from a strategy game.

Go back to wow, we dont want ya, where even if you dont watch your back and die, you will lose nothing anyway.

Last thing, for hating the game because you fear the danger of the game, you make a good publicity out of it because if i didnt knew about Df and i readed you post, i would start to like it more and more.

It helps if you actually read a post before quoting it. But just for you I will quote myself. "Cause that does kind of suck to spend most of your time running far far away to the newb spawns that arent completely camped by Player Killers"

What that means is that the 1 to 2 minute trip mob spawns are camped by PKs. You should know that if you play the game.

The bottom line with all this is that the developers of this game have completely missed the mark when it comes to game balance. They have created any environment where high skilled players are encouraged and rewarded by preying on new weak players. The sad part is that without continual flow and retention of new players the game will eventually fold. This game is essentially committing suicide by ignorance.

As I said before, sounds like a large exaggeration.

Tried the free trial of  WoW. Played it  for a few days and dropped it. You have me mixed up with someone else. The problem with Darkfallians is they can't admit that the game has serious problems. You just stroll around taking it whichever way the devs say you take it. Unfortunately the Devs in Darkfall have missed the mark in many respects. Good concept but a bad implementation. Now originally I just wrote my simple brief experience with the game but as long as people continue to try to act like the game has no faults I will continue to point them out.

The game has plenty of faults, I doubt you will find one person who would say other wise. Buying a skill based game then complaining that you have to spend time leveling your skills up wont get you any sympathy here. Buying a FFA PvP game with full looting then complaining about getting ganked, wont get you much sympathy here.

You tell xpiher hes blowing smoke and ask him for info, he gives you the info you asked for and all you do is dismiss him and continue your bashing...again...you wont get much sympathy here.

I have no desire for sympathy. Like everyone else I'm just giving my opinion about the game. What I am saying is true and thats why it stings. Like the post title says .. "wait for the demo." I believe that is a good move for most players and thats why I started the thread.

Nothing you've claimed has made me sting that's for sure.

When I started out with the goblin mob right by my starter city, I was ganked many times. Kind of expected that going in though. There were certainly pockets of opportunity to have at them without being bothered.

I was definitely able to get a simple equipment/weapon supply to start out with, as well as some basic knowledge on how to fight.

People who support the game do believe it has flaws. It's very young still. This is obvious to everyone.

Darkfall got problems because its a niche game(Underground) who made it and as a niche company, they are one of the few who wanted to make something different. You speak like its easy to make an mmorpg, today, they all make games that look like wow. Since i heard that you dont play wow, i wonder what you play so please, tell us.

If you whine because you get camp killed at goblins, you should quit now because later on, it will get worst. I mean, the bank is just really near the goblins and you got the tower watch. Use them while you can because later on, banks will be further and there wont be any other tower watch since they are only in capital. Not like wow, at the mid progression, you dont ever go back to a starter city with towerwatch. By using the bank, i mean once you think you got too much stuff and you fear to die again, go to the nearest bank before you die and go back to raise your skills. there are also more then 1 goblin spot near each starter city and from 1 to 25, its fast enough to go kill other monsters after like trolls. And again, you need to join a clan to enjoy darkfall.

BTW, darkfall is like a paid beta. A none complete game and expansion are free because its like an other step to complete the game. The latest one remove the huge grind and added some other stuff and mid November, there will be an other expansion to balance melee, mage and archers. local banks and caravans will be added too.

It takes 20mins to run from one side of the main land to the other. I know this becuase I made multiple tribs from tribe lands to ork lands when I ran my own guild. So yes, it is a gross exaggeration because you can get from 1 city to another city in line 5mins on a mount. The only goblin spawns that are generally campped are the ones near the main starter cities. Go to one of the non main starter cities and you'll be fine.
