I've been in my quest to find the perfect MMO since the downfall of EQ and SWG....
I have literally sat here at the computer searching and searching, really just wasting time. During this time of searching, it was somewhat like meditation. I really thought about my play style, and what I consider the most important feature in a MMO...
For me, it's community...I have a feeling I was blind sided when I started SWG, mainly because I joined the meta-PvP guild on the server, and PvP took my life over. But in EQ, I never did PvP, or even thought about it. I enjoyed travelling, discovering new lands (new for me), finding new people, learning good camp areas to pull mobs, meeting new people in my travels.
It seems finding a MMO back in the day was simplier. I didnt start EQ from launch, I started a months before Velious came out.
So, in MMOs, I look for community, and the social aspect of the game. As of now, the state of MMOs is shit. Right now, judging by other forums and such, heres a list of MMOs im considering:
-Going back to WoW...*shutter*
-Starting FFXI. But reading the forums, the community sounds like it is shit.
-Starting LOTRO. So far, this is one of the only MMOs that I hear has a great community.
-Continuing EVE. To be honest, I love this game. I love almost everything, except lack of direction and being stuck in a ship. I never really feel connected to the Corps or my character, as I only see them when grouping/fleeting. When in station, im just that, stuck looking at my ship, chat box, and whatever else. But no personal connection with my character...
As of right now, there are some awesome MMOs on the horizon, which is why I may just stick to EVE, and just wait it out, as any MMO i start or play, I want it to be able to last more than a year. Judging by MMOs on the horizon, some older MMOs may lose some community when they come out.

Age of Conan and Vanguard are much much improved, and have pretty nice people. Try those.

come play Red War Edem's Curse man has a small communtiy for now but it is new and picking up. I am in KGB Guild and have a lot of fun there players r funny and enjoy helping when they can its great come hang out.
I agree Red War Edem's Curse is fun community has doubled so far since i started. I'm in mortal and the same here grind gets old though, guildies help with jokes. Come try it u might like it.
The community in LotRO is great and friendly. *But* you have to be proactive in getting to know people (content is so immersive it's easy to zone out and solo). Make sure you know how to use all the ingame social functions and be on the lookout for a good kinship (guild).
LotRO does have a good community. Due to an increase in population a while back, the quality dropped a bit, but it still overall has a great community.
Ryzom also has a tight-knit community, but it's small. Maybe around 10-12k across three servers.
Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
It's old, and active players may be in the hundreds or lower, but Underlight has an amazing community.
