i just bought the game but i heard about an expansion. Will we have to pay for this?
Nope. It's free.
But I believe we have to wait for two more weeks.

They aren't traditional expansions more like an EvE massive free content update. The yare still technically expansions, but most game compaines call them free content updates becuase they don't charge for them.
It's a patch. Not an expansion. Aventurine lost several Semantics classes, but none of the Economy ones.
no AV does patch in content but the patchs the call "expansions" really do have a ton of content in them and deserve to be called so. only one expansion so far and it added player houses/villages and a load of other things. you can argue that stuff was meant to be out at release but either way so far expansions really have been expansions.

Oh yeah this is definitely what an expansion is.
And when EVE does an expansion it is most certainly an expansion, not a patch update. My god so many people that comment on games they've never played.

And so many people talk about people they don't even know. Kudos for the fan honor poke, though.
If you guys really think that overall adjustments and the inclusion of stuff that was promised at launch is an expansion.... well, it's your call. Aventurine must be glad to see that there are still people fighting the good fight for them.
And, prediction time: all future patches will include a small-time addition, such as a few more weapons or a slightly new functionality to warrant the usage (and the defense) of the term "expansion" in lieu of "patch".

If you make a comment like that, it's crystal clear you havn't played EVE for anything longer than "I gave it a try". So I don't need to know someone to make that judgement.

Minmatar Tempest Specialist Cthulhette (not mentioning my Miner character) at your disposal. Look me up. Not playing presently, but played for quite a while.
And why bringing up EVE, anyway? If it happens there, is it ok to happen here? This is the kind of circular logic that breeds wholesale stupidity in the world.
Let me put this bluntly: Can you compare the use of "Expansion" in gaming as a whole (new landmasses, objective, systems, features, classes, skills, etc) to the DFO "patches" ? It is a consolidated term, that brings to mind the features I described above. Including a thing or two, completely peripheral to the core gaming (or do you mean player stores and housing is central to DFO?) to be able to justify the usage of the term is spin-doctoring, following AV's tradition of spinning taller tales than they can deliver.

Why coming to a forum and not being ready to discuss? "Lose the behaviour" was actually quite funny for someone who assumed a lot of things without even having basic knowledge to back them up.

patch doesn't add new feature like expension
That's clearly untrue. WAR's patch added several new classes, amongst other additions. WoW added instances, the battleground system, all PvP systems and even new areas in patches. AoC added 2 new zones, several instances, a few raids [with more upcoming soon] and PvP system in patches.
If we accept that Darkfall's 'expansions' are just that, then for example WoW had 20+ expansions, and even humble AoC had half a dozen.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

WARs patch added several classes that were cut just before launch and even they tried to spin it into a "free expansion". WAR, WoW and AoC, all launched with sparse end game content and later patched in systems that should have been in game at launch, which seems to be a common trend these days.
WoW actually sells you an incomplete expansion then patches it in as they go. Its a brilliant idea, they give you everything they advertise, they just spread it out over a longer period of time so they arent rushing anything out the door.

Nothing is wrong with discussion, that is why we are all here. But sometimes you need to learn how to agree to disagree.
Your going to tell me post after post why this is just a patch update. If I entertain that and explain why I disagree over and over again, I'm not really having a very intellectually stimulating discussion. Just a frustrating and very dull one. Is that reason enough? I don't like going in circles.
Stop making assumptions it will get you nowhere ( in regards to accusing me of following AV's spinning tales or something). I've spun no tales of this game or any other, so chill.

The argument was if DF additions can be called expansions - and in light of what other games have added as free updates, it clearly cannot be the case. The actual state of the game at launch is irrelevant - and if it wasn't, Darkfall would *not* score any points there, even compared to AoC's terrible launch.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.
Its the company that decide what they want to call it, not the fans or haters. Some they call patches and some they call expansions. AV calls this a exapnsion, thus making it a expansion. Later there will be a patch to fix this expansion, and some will argue that is a "expansion".
And here i thought that whatever standards constitute an expansion and what a patch were pretty much the same for all companies and all games and that they were set based on something more than "....because they say so "
So does that thing go for all or is it one of those things only AV can get away wi......*cough* *cough* ,ahem meant can do?
I mean if i said that the below picture was C-A-K-E (even if it indeed was an oddly shaped C-A-K-E ) would anyone just believe me without questioning or even doubting me and just take a bite.........or does this only work with AV?
i just bought the game but i heard about an expansion. Will we have to pay for this?
No information is available or i havent seen any yet lol on whether we need to pay for any expansions yet.
An Expansion is a download that gives us players NEW content.
A patch is a download that fixes current content.
It does not matter what was said, typed, blogged, reveiwed, or interviewed. If the item being dicussed is already in-game and is currently present, then its a patch. If it is entirely New Content (there are no player housing and they are introducing Houses that you can buy/loot) then that is an Expansion.
We have to live with the patches, we live for the expansions.
Also, the game developers, and their public relations department choose what words to use in their press releases. If they get it wrong a few times, then its on them. I would guess that only a legal issue would rise to the level of requiring a correction being posted. I could be wrong lol its just a guess.

Now having said that again I'm not sure if they still have traditional "patches" with bug fixes and the like but my understanding again is that expansions in this game are free content updates in other games.
I hope for DF sake that the reason they do this is because they truly plan to expand upon the game often so that the term may truly fit and they have given most of what I heard about from this game before launch.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Expansion= You can continue to play the game without buying or installing the expansion. You don't have all the new content, levels, classes, etc but you can continue to play. For example Vanilla WoW or for that f'n matter Everquest; one of my accounts has 2 expansions the other has all of them and both work fine.
Patch= You must install it to be at the correct revision level to play the game. A certain game currently in beta for example releases new patches almost weekly (which have more content BTW then DnF's expansions) and if you dont' install them you can't even log in.
It really is that simple no matter what Lord Tacos and his minions of slavering sycophantic obsequious shillbots want to call it.
Let me make it simple for simple minds: Expansion= You can continue to play the game without buying or installing the expansion. The differecne is that those types of patches are execpted of a beta game. The patches in darkfall that AV calls expansions, which I really think is a tranlation error, are a lot bigger than most games patches and are closer to EvE's free content updates/expansions (yea really) than say WoW releases every month.
Its the company that decide what they want to call it, not the fans or haters. Some they call patches and some they call expansions. AV calls this a exapnsion, thus making it a expansion. Later there will be a patch to fix this expansion, and some will argue that is a "expansion".

So if Blizzard did call a patch for a expansion in WoW....would that make it easier to understand?
It does not matter what company you talk about.
I often call this a patch instead. And that is what it is for me. But it make no difference what i call it...its stil a expansion!

The differecne is that those types of patches are execpted of a beta game. The patches in darkfall that AV calls expansions, which I really think is a tranlation error, are a lot bigger than most games patches and are closer to EvE's free content updates/expansions (yea really) than say WoW releases every month.
Games:
Currently playing:Nothing
Will play: Darkfall: Unholy Wars
Past games:
Guild Wars 2 - Xpiher Duminous
Xpiher's GW2
GW 1 - Xpiher Duminous
Darkfall - Xpiher Duminous (NA) retired
AoC - Xpiher (Tyranny) retired
Warhammer - Xpiher
And here i thought that whatever standards constitute an expansion and what a patch were pretty much the same for all companies and all games and that they were set based on something more than "....because they say so "
So does that thing go for all or is it one of those things only AV can get away wi......*cough* *cough* ,ahem meant can do?
I mean if i said that the below picture was C-A-K-E (even if it indeed was an oddly shaped C-A-K-E ) would anyone just believe me without questioning or even doubting me and just take a bite.........or does this only work with AV?
So if Blizzard did call a patch for a expansion in WoW....would that make it easier to understand?
It does not matter what company you talk about.
I often call this a patch instead. And that is what it is for me. But it make no difference what i call it...its stil a expansion!
