Banned for buying gold.

OnomaOnoma Member Posts: 44

This is not a whine thread at all. Just got a notification that my inactive account that has been inactive for 4 months+ has been flagged for basically either exploiting the economy or buying gold. Ok and your point is you ask? Well the only time I bought gold was PRE-BC. Now you imagine how many years ago that was. I do not ever intend on going back to WoW but I do find it a little crazy it took them THAT long regardless whether or not I like or play the game anymore. Though when I logged into my account on the website it does not say anything about being banned so it has me suspicious but the email came from donotreply@blizzard.com

When Blizzard first started the switch over to b.net accounts they had a security breach that allowed people to gain access to inactive accounts via character names instead of account names. If you havent been subscribed for a while, chances are they are still doing this. I recommend calling Blizzard directly because even if you dont plan on playing WoW again, do you really want someone else having access to your account?

Well whatever the case may be I changed my password, but I would be pretty skeptical that someone gained access to my account and did not change any of my information such as the password. And again the email still seems a little suspicious there is no mention on my account of me being banned and it even allows me to go in and try to renew my sub.  I guess I just have a hard time believing they kept logs that long and actually went back and found that one little trade.  Not that I particularly care it just seems very odd that it took them this long.

Phishing............do not enter any password to a linked webpage, chances are that webpage is a fake one and hackers will use your password to access your account.

If they are not scammers, then kudos to Blizzard which even after years finds out gold buyers.

I got an email similar to that a while back while I wasn't even playing. I could see when I moused over the link that it was fake. Most likely it was a scam to get your info. I basically forwarded the email to blizzard about how suspect it was and they sent a thanks for the notfication.

Blizzard's not stupid, they don't ban people for buying gold, only for selling it.

You are either the victim of a phishing effort or someone does have your account info, but then you'd probably lose all your stuff for sure.

    Well thats even odd'erer?

As trial accounts have the following limitations:

    * A level cap of 20.

    * A maximum of 10 gold.

    * Trade skills are capped at 100 ranks.

    * Inability to trade via the auction house, mailbox, or player-to-player.

    * In-Game public chat channels will be unavailable. (Players will still be able to communicate using say, party, or whispers).

    * Characters will be unable to create or join existing guilds.

    * Accounts will no longer be able to whisper other players unless they have been added to those players’ friends lists or have received a whisper from them first.

    * Characters will not be able to invite players into a party.

    * Characters will not be able to join parties with other players above level 20.

    * Voice Chat is disabled on trial accounts.

    * Realms with login queues will give priority to customers with retail accounts.

    * Will not be eligible for any Character Transfer service.

And they are only active for about 14days.

    ***Notice of Account Closure***

    Account Name: XONOMA

Reason for Closure: Terms of Use Violation -- Exploitative Activity: Abuse of the Economy

This account was closed because one or more characters were identified exchanging, or contributing to the exchange of, in-game property (items or gold) for "real-world" currency. This exchange process negatively impacts the World of Warcraft game environment by detracting from the value of the in-game economy.

Even if this behavior is the result of a third party accessing the account instead of the registered user (for example, a friend, family member, or leveling service) then the account can still be held responsible for the penalty because of the impact it had on the game environment.

We've found the above behavior is many times directly related to groups responsible for compromising World of Warcraft accounts; we take these issues very seriously. To better understand our position against exploitative activity and the risks involved, please review this article: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/antigold.html

The exploitative activity that took place on this account violates the World of Warcraft Terms of Use. We ask you take a moment to review these terms at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html. Any recurring subscriptions on this account have been suspended to prevent further monetary charges.

They banned a trial account, how much more fail can they accomplish?

This account has been temporarily disabled and is currently unable to access World of Warcraft.

An email has been sent to the registered address on the account with the reason for this temporary closure. If you would like to appeal this decision or did not receive the message please contact our Account Administration team at wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com from your registered email address.

If a stranger came into your living room, propped open your front door, and started selling homemade tamales to everyone that walked by, would that be the same to you as having a Taco Bell down the block?
