Best MMORPG For PVP?

Hi Everyone,

I want to play an MMORPG, but there are so many and I want to mainly focus on a Plaver vs. Player setup. Which games focus on this?

Thanks.

Of the MMORPGs that are out now, I would probably say DAoC(Faction vs. Faction PvP). Other options are Lineage 2(open PvP), WoW(FvF - incomplete as of now), and Shadowbane(open PvP).

If you're alright with waiting a couple of months, you should check out Dark and Light. It's sort of like an updated version of DAoC(in a sense) with a ton of other things added on. http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm/load/forums/loadforum/508/loadthread/25526/setstart/1/loadclass/173

Guild wars PvP is thoroughly enjoyable, though it is more arcade style. Nowhere near the kind of range of shadowbane. For a wider form of PvP Dark & Light is looking promising with kingdoms to rule and castles to lay seige to.

Wait...That's all I can tell you.

Wait and look for Mourning, Darkfall, as well as Dark & Light.

There use to be good PvP, early AC1 darktide, early UO, etc.

But...So far, (and i've played every major PvP MMORPG...hell, every major MMORPG, except EQ2.) and I can tell you, there really is no worthwhile PvP out there; especially in the new games.

Well... many of the posters here have mentioned several good PvP games but I saw one that deserves mentioning. Neocron. Graphics aren't very good (early EQ1 style) but there is PKing, Dueling, Team PvP.. you name it. No offense to other PvP games but I doubt you would find better PvP stylists anywhere. The PvPers in Neocron really know their stuff.

If you want reasonable graphics, try EverQuest (the original, not II). They have both Open PvP and Team PvP servers. One word of caution here... EQ1 PvP servers bear not resemblance to normal EQ servers. Oh sure, freeport is still in the same place etc. but believe me, the game plays very differently. Many of the things that you would take for granted in EQ1 just are not viable on the PvP servers.

If PvP for its own sake is not your style... if you want PvP that actually means something, then Lineage II and Shadowbane are probably more up your alley. The results of PvP in these games actually means something other than the usual ho-hum bragging rights.

    Hope that was helpful.

I tthink one of the nest PvP will be inguild wars, since the game is heavily related to PvP and GvG, and it brings a lot of tactits in combat since you havea variety of skills, and you can only choose eight for each fight....

look at the review and their page and you will see.

Mourning sounds pretty promising, wonder why noone brought it up yet... http://www.realmsofkrel.com/
Release Date is set for Feb still.
Sounds pretty good to me.. and I actually like those bloodline&permadeath ideas, though depends on how good they accomplish implementing all features they announced.

Edit: oh ok then i didn't read closely enough

Shadowbane hand down best PvP out there. Class balnced well and long fights with a good chance any one winning an encounter if you facter in human error witch is what i like about iit. You make the char good not the programers. Get the free tial and just spend a few days reasing the opionions of the players about the clasees you wills see points on both side of the argument.
    Played UO and DAoC
UO loved it playedit a number of years.
DAoC ok game got tierd of it fast wanted to pvpv all the time but took a long time to get to the fight and the fight well lasted a few minutes 99% of the time

First, World War 2 Online.  Easily.  The game is 99% pvp.  Combined arms game, can play air, sea, and ground.

Second, Tie between EvE Online and DAOC.  DAOC had very fun pvp, but im a scifi nerd so doing all the space fighting in Eve was just awsome.

Definatley Mourning. It is going the revolutionize the gaming mmorpg industry.

  • ViolentYViolentY Member Posts: 1,458

I'd say try the 15 day free trial of shadowbane, though that probably isn't nearly enough time to actually experience the great pvp the game has...

It's true, I think Shadowbane has the best PvP system out there. Open PvP meant looking over your back at ever time. Not to mention, you could literally make a living out of killing people in that game.

EvE Online in my book. You actually have to loose something when you PvP in this game unlike the oher mentioned games.
Edit: Mourning looks VERY promising indeed.

I prefered early UO the most, then EVE. EVE is more like  guild(corp) vs guild(corp) then just ur regular pvp.

  • superhero13superhero13 Member Posts: 170

Try ShadowBane. Its not dead...and hands down it has the best combination of skill, stealth, and brute force you will find in a game today. Theres no content other than PvP so hopefully you arent looking for a PvP / PvE hybrid.

Make sure to join a guild so they can help you level up fast and safely. You might also want to play on the new server coming out or on the test server, which have quicker XP.
