Updater freezes every 5 minutes

maakaatuumaakaatuu Member Posts: 34

I'm having trouble doing this initial 4GB updating. My updater freezes every 5 minutes or so, forcing me to close it with Ctrl + Alt + Delete.

I've been updating for 24 hours and have still 2GB left.

I've closed ALL the programs running in the background (Antivirus, Firewall, etc.) but nothing seems to help.

I've also tried finding torrent but no luck. Any ideas? Is there another way of downloading this?

Thanks.

p.s. I'm using Windows XP.

I have not encountered this issue, although the update process when I updated the game took me from one day to the next. If this has changed by now, I am not sure. Have you tried to search the Support forums at fallenearth.com?  I would recommend searching the forums to see if anyone else is having similar issues.  If you do not find anything, I would post on there if you have not already and you will probably get a fairly quick response as the community and support for Fallen Earth is top notch.

I had the same problem,  it took me almost 24 hours to get everything downloaded. I  turned off everything  I could think that might interfer  but it would still freeze after downloading a  bit.  I  just closed it out  and kept relaunching the updater  I swear  it took me at least 60 times, once I had  maybe 1 gig left to download  it  went smooth though.

Pretty nice game so far, I'm only level 3  but so far so good!

In another note, if you are using a router, its firewall might conflict with the updater. To determine whether you have connection problems, try the following:

    For Windows XP:

    1. Go to Start > Run, type cmd.exe and press Enter. Alternatively, go to Start > Programs > Command Prompt and start that.
    2. Type "ping www.fallenearth.com" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter. Wait while the programme executes this command.
    3. When a new command line comes up, type "tracert www.fallenearth.com" (again without the quotation marks) and press Enter.
    4. Select all (usually by right clicking the top left corner of the programme window and clicking select all), copy (in the same manner), and paste everything here. Alternatively, interpret the results yourself. If anything weird pops up, there's a problem with your connection to www.fallenearth.com.

    For Windows Vista:

Basically the same as for Windows XP, except you cannot use Start > Run under 1., but you have to press R while holding the Windows button on your keyboard. In the window that pops up, also type cmd.exe and press Enter.

If it turns out that your connection is an issue, try to connect your internet modem directly to your PC (i.e. remove the router in between) and see if you still have problems when repeating the steps above (or by simply trying to use the updater again). If yes, the problem is not necessarily due to a problem with your router's firewall. If no, your router's firewall is the problem.

This is exactly what happened to me. I also kept relaunching the updater over and over again, and it kept freezing over and over again. After I got past the "magical" 1GB point, it hasn't crashed once. Now I'm at 200MB and soon I'll be able to play.

Thank you all for your replies!
