Im not trying to troll...
Im not campaigning for another game....
I have definitively heard from word inside the european mmo development community that DnL is about to run out of development money.
I sincerely hope they find more. The game looks great.

Where did you hear this? I would think that the community would be large enough to make up for any shortage of money, since i would think they would make their money back soon enough... ill believe it when i see it though.

Oddly, this is what I would say if I werent the one making the claim.
And it's well within your rights not to believe me. The next thing Im going to say will make the claim less credible, Im sure - I shouldnt reveal the source. I will say that it was 2 of the lead developers of another MMO in the works - a high profile project.
I actually hope ithey turn out to be wrong. Id really like to see the new concepts, gameplay and just experience the DnL world.

Unless they know the financial inside happenings of another company, I wouldn't worry to much.
Then again, in this day and age, where out of the blue things get cancelled, I wouldn't be too surprised anymore either.

Information from the latest dev chat (below) indicates that Dark and Light did have money problems during the summer but they seem to have found more financing. So hopefully those rumors are now old news. Dark and Light is simply the best hope for MMORPGs at the moment.

What ever happened it looks like they are on track again... It's nice to see the Devs being so open. I really hope they can pull this through completion, nothing out there really compares to the scope of this title.
I am sure, if it was getting near bankruptcy or cancellation....at this point, they would just release what they have....or start an open beta where you pay to enter. That would indeed give them more than enough funds they need!
This game has too big of a following for them to just cancel or close down at this point!

i agree that wouldnt be so bad of an idea if they started having troubles, open up an extra thousand beta spots and sell them to the highest bidders, bring in at least enough to make it to launch maybe.

I have to tell you... with the following these guys have especially after the Wish cancelation and all the Wish refugees heading over to DnL these guys would have no trouble finding another backer. They have a huge fanbase and when you have those kind of numbers sponsors aren't hard to find.

Uhh, I don't think they will just release the code. Wish didn't and won't release the code. Neither did UXO. Most of these commerical ventures don't just give their code away when financing runs out. They will hold on to it for the next venture.

Not even close to the truth at all. I have two sources, both of which want their competitor to pull through with flying colors. As part of the game dev community in Europe they are quite connected - the source of the info wasnt random rumor or ill wishes, but serious concern.
You have to realize that DnL is still trying to scrap it out and wouldnt want any dirty air aired. That being said, I post what I post so that people dont have their hopes dashed again. There is a very serious chance that it wont see the light of day.
I personally hope the game comes out and blows our minds. Of course that will make it hard to play the other games I play...and keep working on the two projects that Im consulting on

I seriously hope that DnL will be released, because I don't know what other games I could try.
But from what I read and hear, DnL is extremly ambitious with their promises and I'm not sure if they can make it and I'm sure they are burning a lot of ressources at the moment.
Perhaps they will cut some features (or put it after release), so player can start giving them money sooner...
oh well only time will tell....

This game is so promising, I'm sure they will find the necessary financing. With Wish gone, many ex-Wish fans now joined the DnL community.
Yeah, Wish has made an obvious impact on the community for D&L. For one thing, before Wish was cancelled, D&L was around 4-5th on the hype list. In the last 2 weeks, it moved up into second, and I woulnd't doubt if it hits first in the coming month.

You need a comprehensive business plan, which includes a projection of your potential customers and income. If the figure of 130,000 players listed to try the beta is accurate, and if you project from there your potential at launch and beyond for the first six months you must surely be able to convince your financial backers to keep investing. They must have known such a product was a long term project anyway.

I'm not putting much weight on the rumors at least at this moment but you just have to love the `Trust Me` attitude without solid proof. If the original posters intent was not to deflate the hopes of this project reaching completion I for one would rather hear about it's closure out of the blue then to now worry daily whether it's going to make it not!
