The X fire contest and free trials wore off and it looks as if this game is DOA again. Correct  me where I'm wrong.
    up from #47 yesterday

whats xfire??  lol, I do not know any one playing mmo's who uses it... so we don't count as having played the game?

Xfire is not always 100% correct but it's pretty close to that. I also have never used it but it doesn't matter as long as some players do. The data they give is enough to make the calculations. It's the same principle they use to estimate TV-ratings.

hmm for the sake of it...

read this part will ya: " Another criticism of the measuring system itself is that it fails the most important criteria of a sample: it is not random in the statistical sense of the word. Only a small fraction of the population is selected and only those that actually accept are used as the sample size. There are only 25,000 total American households that participate in the Nielsen daily metered system.[8] The resident population of the United States as of 2009 is about 307 million people.[9] Compounding matters is the fact that of the sample data that is collected, advertisers will not pay for time shifted (recorded for replay at a different time) programs [10] rendering the 'raw' numbers useless. In many local areas, the difference between a rating that keeps a show on the air and one that will cancel it is so small as to be statistically insignificant, and yet the show that just happens to get the higher rating will survive.[11] As the possible choices increase so does the margin of error resulting in the sampling sizes being too small"

so yeah xfire gets it wrong.

on the topic. aoic is far from "dying", but  as i see it it will also never be packed again, the game lacks some certain elements, at least for me as a pvp player.

anyhow the secret world looks good enough so im pretty sure that funcom will be just fine and dandy.

btw ive dl Ao the other day, after 12 years the world is still alive and kicking. its a beautiful idea to think about that a mmorpg has been around for 12 years, existing  over the www. think about it. :)

    cheers. helios.

I agree with you in that based on looking at it from a stats point of view xfire is not very good. Just way too many people that have decided not to use it. I personally have not used xfire in 6 years.

I also am looking forward to the secret world, and really like some of the game ideas they have. AoC not doing well shouldn't hurt that TSW too much I don't think, after all they have quite a few differences from the description. I also think that the setting for AoC might not have been the best to bring in a lot of players. That is the main reason why I never tried it. I just wasn't interested in the world itself, so the game could have been perfect and I wouldn't try it. TSW seems like it may be able to get a broader player base though.

Edit: never got to type anything before posting, touchpad clicked post before i wrote anything.

That's not how statistics work. They don't need to know what every single player is playing so whether or not you have ever used Xfire is irrelevant. All they need to know is what a small portion is playing and the laws of statistics will do the rest. It's the same principle they use with TV-ratings.
