A year to get the game togeter and it is still the smallest MMO both geographicaly and population wise I have ever played. They spent the entire year trying to make this game into a crappy version of a Warcraft clone rather than refining what could have been unique features.
Instancing and the games global chat still suck. There is not much substance at all in this game; all pay to play MMOs have more, for a lack of a better word, "STUFF" to do, way more. Most free to play MMOs have more. AoC is a linear grind fest with verry little end game. THE WORST PART: The game is so desperate they are giving away free level 50s. Instead of giving away rewards, mounts and 5-0s they could have just, I don't know given players stuff to do. Like most original players this was the finaly and I won't be resubing.

I got a free copy and played to lvl 20 so far. It's a decent game if you pay attention to the storyline, which is what I love about it. I might stop playing AoC soon since I am playing Darkfall
I also won a free account for 30 days and I love the main questline. I also enjoy the armor skins compared to most games as it's based on the actual races instead of classes. I'm level 26 as of now and haven't hit the sweet spot for grinding yet. I personally want to check out PvP so questing through levels is fine with me.

Ahhhhhhhhh! Tortage and the rest of the game are not the same thing at all. Actually, from level 40 on it seems the developers stopped trying.

Are you saying there's a shortage of quests?Because I haven't seen it yet and I am at 42. From what I hear there are plenty between the three main continents all the way to 80.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
They are giving away one free level 50 character if you already have a character past level 50, they don't give you loads of free level 50's. The funny thing here is that this was one of the things the community asked for, they wanted a way to start a higher level char and Funcom provided them with one.
Out of curiosity what level did you get to in the free trial?

Uhm when did you stop playing? There is no grind holes in the game anymore. There used to be a lack of quests in the 55-65 range and the 75+ range. Both ranges have gotten new zones. Now you can happily solo quest from 1 to 80 without ever worrying about grinding or having to do group quests.

1st .. its nothing like WOW.. think of something NEW.. you know YOUR OWN thought. What wasnt it 1-2 months thats all we heard "after 40 it stops" think kind of thing. Unless you played to 80 which you never have.. lol you would never had posted this.
Ok that being said.. the game is now unGodly easy. Only after level 60 does it start to get a tad better. Its just to easy and you STILL look (at low levels) like that 50-80 level running by..
I have a level 80 and like pretty much every single other level 80 I quit the game and Funcom backs me up and they don't care about level 80s because they can focus on leveling stuff. I spent a couple hours on my level 80 sin looking for stuff to do and got bored of the solo dungean in 5 mins, and now a level 50. having enough stuff to solo quest on and having stuff to do is two different things. This game is trying to become Warcraft yet they lack the GROUP stuff and diversity of quests that other MMOs have. Who pays 15 per month to solo grind 80 levels to be bored at the end game? Hell I don't even need quests but if all there is to do is grind then why not play two worlds another game that has little hype, yet is labled as a single player RPG.
Actually PvP wise this game is worse than Warcraft, aside from all the penalties and the lamest PvP system ever made it is bland and very lack luster.
EDIT: Tell Funcom to think of something new, this game is as bland as Everquest then without any endgame and 10 percent or so the zones per level range.

So you spent a few hours looking for stuff to do on a level 80 and got bored after 5 minutes of playing one of the solo instances. This tells me one thing and that is that Funcom never will be able to please you. I could load up my old level 70 warlock in WoW and I would get the same feeling as you had with AoC, simply because I find WoW extremely boring. As WoW is for me AoC is to you, we can try the games but we won't keep playing simply because we find them no fun. I did smile when I saw that you had spent a couple of hours trying to look for things to do tho.
About the pvp aspect I find it way better then WoW, but that again is a matter of taste.

I agree with OP that game is linear and current supply of quests and dungeons is very limited. After couple months you have pretty much "done everything". But this is happening for guy who has played different amusement park MMORPGs too many years.
AoC graphics and great music track give bit extra entertaiment for even veteran player and character destiny quest series is entertaining first time. But basically it is just same quest-loot-healer-dps-tank game that has seen so many times already - and is going to be seen so many times in future. It is like one of those FPS games that are basically just copying orginal Doom with better graphics and sounds. In other words - it is bland. Not anymore smelly poop that it was when it was released, but small burger that taste pretty much same as other burgers in town - just different name and bit more cheese (also waitresses are topless).

I got done with Tortage and started questing on the mainland but lost interest in this game quicker than I do most mmos. That's just me though, it wasn't a bad game, I just couldn't really get into it.

Same here. I can see where some would enjoy the game though. Ones who play either super casual or are into PvP.
Biggest issue I had withe game is that is still seems bugier than it should be and there was nothing really to do except grind quests so I could grind the next level. That was at low to mid level mind you and I am not a PvP type of player. Sieges and PvP might be ok, I can't say one way or the other from personal experience. It was worth the download to find out it wasn't for me though.
I miss DAoC
the OP must have gotten his ass handed to him in whitesands or somewhere else so he comes here and spouts crap like its fact, smallest game? care to let us know where you got your facts from, end game and trial? how? Someone else said the game was very buggy, care to eleborate on these bugs?
My kids wanted to play WoW again so I loaded it up and withn 5 minutes I was stuck in the loot position, that bug has been in this game since beta, what the heck is wrong with blizzard, cant they add anything to the game besides quest grinding and linear zones, there is just nothing else to do in this game unless your into hanging with the pervs and pedophiles in Elwynn.
Point of the last paragraph is, I can basically choose any game made and type the same stuff as all the negative crap in this thread, just change the name of the game and it will fit, 1 month into warhammer I was reading the VN forums, just to see if my hunch was right every single negative title on the first page could be found verbatim in the WoW forums.
I relate it to being on the job, you have your people that do thier job, do it well and get through the day, then you have your half ass people who do a half ass job, constantly complain about thier home life and the job and its obvious they have mental and personality issues and you just cant wait to get away from them, thats what I equate MMo forum whiners to.

OMG! OMG ! OMG!
When will you all realise that ONE game can not please all the people!!!!!!!
I love AoC you don't, there are thousands like me and there are thousands that dont like it, One man's meat is another man's posion. How big is your ego to assume that if you dont like the game then there must be something wrong with the game and cannot accept the simple fact that you dont like it!
Its not as if AoC is the only MMO on the market there are a hell of a lot of them, check out the game list on this site, find something you like and go and play it, it is THAT simple.
I simply cannot understand this contiuous posting of how you dont like the game and what is wrong with it.
I have Lotor, i have D&D, Hell gate London, I have EQ2 etc, I dont like them but i don't go to these forums to keep on telling the people there how much i don't like the game, i consider that a gross waste of my time. Hence i am baffled that someone who does not like this game continues to come on to these forums to post over and over again how they don't like the game and why.
Is there a motive for doing this that i am unaware of perhaps?
Well, yeah. The system of making a hit based on the where a sword actualy touches is new and inventive but we seen most of the game before.
It is as most MMOs but to be frank we seen very little inventivness since EQ.
As for the little content the game needs that expansion, EQ2 had the same problem at the start. I still find the game more fun to play then Wow even though I think AoC is too easy for my taste.
Some more dungeons and more large zones like Ymirs pass together wit more end game content and the game will be as good as any other current MMOs but with better graphics. But I havn't played in a few months and are just downloading the client so we shall see what I think after seen OT: common...

did you somehow miss the part where I said I thought it was worthwhile to DL just to check it out to see if it is for you.
I think AoC is a viable alternative for some people. I imagine it appeals to the same group that liked Guildwars.

Still around even though your not playing JD? lol
You are right though. The reason we have so many games is that we have people with different tastes. You're also right that its at least worth the download to check it out for some.
I don't really like GW but I do like this game mostly because of the combat which is far and away better then some other MMORPG's out there at the moment. I guess when you spend most of your time killing stuff, combat feel is important. Games like LOTRO missed the boat here completely ... it feels wooden and worse then EQ1 did ... but some do manage to make combat crisp and intuitive. AoC is one of those games. We will have to see how things progress over time as far as the rest of the world goes.
To the OP:
You don't like AoC we get it. Plenty of games out there you may like. Hope you have fun playing one but don't think for a moment that you will be able to change the minds of people who do like this game. Not happening.
Luck in your next game!
I miss DAoC
Lol I wasnt around for months and you haven't changed a bit. Still an idiot without a single unbiased argument - you are like most of ppl i know that works with numbers. :P
You seem to have missed the countless of interviews, prereviews and shit like that which stated clearly that AoC will be a MMORPG focused on end game. Granted, biggest aspect of endgame (sieges) is still not working as intended but stating that implementing lvl 50 boost is just dumb and shows how much you always bend the corners to get your word supported by false arguments.
You know, you remind me of one friend of mine who is constantly trying out AoC, yet he still lives and like WoW world. It always ends up with him bashing AoC not realising AoC might not be for him.
All being said they offered welcome back to damn soon and that was really bad call. My guild still can't make a full siege without crashing the instance. The game focused on sieges and that will be most of the endgame -... soon, hopefully
Playing AoC for a year now and the only game I'll move on to will either be somespace game, or a sandbox. After playing with the combo system I realise how mind-numbingly boring the standard MMO combat system is and I won't be coming back to that. I also love FFA PvP rather than being told to hate faction B because they're of a different size/shape/race/colour than us.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.
Ya but there really isn't any end game after the first year and I don't expect there to ever be one. You missed the interview which stated most people are not at level cap so they can take their time. Wait until Funcom releases some expansion that focuses on leveling again.
................
There are no combos in this, I play street fighter 4 all the time now and in that you can do combos, in age of conan you press three buttons to get a spell out. The biggest diffrence is each class has less options than other games as there are fewer spells. Well not guild wars or EQ 1 because they limited classes on what spells you could have. This game was dumbed down to much for consoles. Some of the ideas would have been great but the system was dumbed down 3 times because the AoC players wanted everything easy.

Take my word for it. AoC will be quite ok IF they fix sieges and add some more substance to them. But I do agree that they are running low on time ...
(I am not going over "combos are shiat" again. The fact is that this is the further any MMO came to provide a different combo system compared to anything on market. In the limits of the game engines and lag issues ofc. )

I'm beginning to think that the sieges cannot be fixed. Just think about it. Sieges have been their "top priority" for 1.5 years now and they still haven't fixed them. I'm guessing the client is coded in a way that sieges won't work no matter what Funcom does.
