Now before you click the 'hate' button, hear me out. Here's a little bio about me, you can skip this part. I've been playing WoW for 4 years, this year would make it 5. I love the game, I enjoyed every lovely second of it. From level 1-60, 60-70, 70-80 (kinda). There's been a drastic difference from today's wow. I remember when I played, Azeroth was the bomb. SW was full and made me lag every second. I could never click an Auctioneer, because my AH was full to the back of people. Then I remember when BC was announced and cities was attacked, awesome. The game progressed after BC, Player's got more spread out, but hey, I was still enjoying myself, Instances were always easy to find. Now, I'm having a hard time finding players. Everyone on my server is a no lifer and doesn't need to do instances that I need for gear. Now before you come to the conclusion that it's just my server. I'm on Llane, and I've played on Illidan and Mal'Ganis. Full Pop servers. Still, the same. All the fun old players of the community, are gone. I won't lie, I only played alliance for one reason. The random your mom jokes, and chuck norris this, Mr. T that. Stress relief after a long time of leveling. Horde was fun, though full of lots of smart players. Pretty much, the community is going downhill. Here's my proof.
This in itself would be a small amount of proof. Think about this, if wow was as popular, would it need all this stuff.
You: "Ok, well since they raised the level cap, people need to level faster so they can experience the 80 stuff!"
Well, as much as I want to believe that's true, why would blizzard do that, when they can just poof them to 80. They made a game, every crater and tree, was made for the player to see and experience. (Far out) Blizz wouldn't do that if they had too, Lowering level cap's is a yes. If that's not enough I have more punches for you.
You tell me, what do you think about all this. I think that's the finisher. I don't want WoW to end, but it's fame has dwindled over time. Now, it's just the hardcore player's game. Casual play, has died.
Most people say Cataclysm will bring them back, do you believe it?

Well...
First and foremost the reason they don't *poof* people to 80 is that they still want people to learn how to play their class. The cross erver instance is to help people who play at odd times or want to do the old raid and dungeon content.
After all it is more likley that you find five players on 30 servers that want to do scholomance than you find on one server, right?
That is how i look at it but then again i play in a small server so i feel the effects of this more sirect than a larger server might do.
Hardcore's... This game has more casuals than you can thorw a rock at.
It is not dying my paraniod frind... Not by a longshoot. Ultima online on the other hand.... that is a completly different story
This have been a good conversation
The sun is dying too
After leveling multiple toons to 80 I have burnt out of WoW (at least for the moment) but I think you are mis-understanding the reasoning behind many of the changes.
The increased experience bonuses that you can get are mind boggling and can help people in getting to level 60 in virtually no time plus can be of great help for people that want to boost an alt. For the people like me that have grinded numerous alts up through the ranks this can seem a bit odd but you need to look at it from Blizz's point of view. Here is a game where if someone new joins they basically will have to solo for months before they get close to where the majority of the players are. This kills the game for bringing in new players. A couple of years ago this wasn't such a big deal as there were still plenty of noobs in the pipeline but now the majority of active players in the game are at level 80 and most likely have at least one level 80 alt if not more.
It is perfectly normal for someone who has played the same game for years to get bored and want to do something else and is actually less a reflection on the game than it is of the human condiition. But, for any company or game to survive they need to replace the people that retire and to keep the people that are in mid-life happy. To keep the current players happy that means more content but this again pushes the active players ahead of the newer players. Some things like the Deathknight starting at level 50 was to keep the interest of the current players going other changes like the recruit a friend account linking was to bring in new players and get them up to speed quickly.
You may not like the changes or you may not agree with them but Blizzard can't just keep doing the same thing over and over otherwise they will end up with a small core of elite players at level 200 and virtually no one else willing to do the level grind to catch up with them.
It is way to soon to say that WoW is dieing. I think it would be more accurate to say that WoW is evolving and that isn't a bad thing even if it does change many of the things you loved about the game.
stop trolling the sun.. why do you hate the sun so much?

Why do you think Cross server instances are a bad thing?? It's the best idea they have ever had!
This. People need to chillax a little. Sometimes I think most of the WoW angst is coming from players who had to "work" for their gear / levels / mounts / etc. and feel bitter that new players are able to achieve virtually the same things without putting in the same amount of effort. It may not seem fair, but that's just the way it is. It doesn't make WoW a bad game.
To the OP. Just because some players are taking a hiatus from WoW (including myself), it doesn't mean that they've written the game off entirely. Speaking for myself, I'm just taking a break because I've done as much of the content as I'm interested in doing. I may re-sub when they release the new LFG ui, just to check it out. And I've already decided that I'm going to be buying the Cataclysm expansion when it's released.
All I'm saying is that I don't think WoW is dieing. Like rwmiller said, WoW is evolving. Some people may not like the changes, or the direction the game is taking, but Blizzard is betting that there are more people who will than won't. Their track record, thus far, seems to indicate that they might be on to something.
Oh look its the another one of these same threads that appear here everyday for the past 4 years. Whole site is full of delusional idiots .
Gotta love the doom prophets proclaiming the end of Wow. I can see the future, when cataclysm hits it will be the most sold game of 2010. :P
Yawn !!
Same tired old BS thread from an unimaginative OP who wants to hate on the most successful MMO to date.

Sora2810,
I don't see any evidence in your theory that proves wow is dieing. I see you looking at a few changes to the game and drawing a completely unsupported conclusion that the game must be dieing.
Keep in mind that wow has made many changes to make the game more accessable and that is part of the reason has grown for 5 years.
Look at other games are ask yourself why they don't grow through the eyes of a new players as the barrier to join your friends grows and grows. Go try to join an everquest game right now for example and this is what you will face just to "catch up".
More levels to gains
More AA to grind out if you make it to xp cap
More expansions to go through
More "must haves" to acquire
Less people crafting, trading and buying in the low level economy.
Less low level people looking to group (soloing alts is very fast which leaves new players to fend for themselves)
Lower populations at low levels can make the game feel empty and hard to make groups to explore dungeons
In the end blizzard is directly addressing obsticles for many late joining new players. This is just a guess, but I bet you see other companies following suit in the near future.
A games logevity lives by its ability to attract and retain new players. So far blizzard is doing something right since it still has 3-4 wow titles in the 10 best selling software lists.
stop trolling the sun.. why do you hate the sun so much?
the sun copied WoW
It isnt good either. Its just a necesity so instance runs can still happen. Its hard enough to get a group for the daily instance. Why the hell would I want to group up with someone I wont see again, ever. Its an urge so you can get a group running at all. Same reason they invented dual spec. It was really a pain to look for a tank/healer for hours.
Just meassures really, so they lifespan of the game gets extended.
For the game to even start dieing subs would have to accually start decreasing. Subscriptions have increased Worldwide every month since the game launched.
This article about the still increasing subscriptions of WOW was published on 10-21-09

The game can still be very casual depending on who you choose to play with. I'm in a casual guild and we just play whenever we feel like it.

By the way, Dying is mis spelled in your title. ^^
well said, i've played wow just as long as you have and i remember those days as well. todays wow is so dumbed down and like you said its damn near impossible to find group for instancing. i played on a release server Whisperwind for 5 years and I have noticed all of this as well. I just recently cancelled my account and now I am playing EVE. I'm just tired of it and it's time to move on.
While i dont think WOW is diying i think your link is nt anything more than internet gossip . I googled vinvendi warcraft subscriptions and looked under news . Guess what there is nt any . So I dont think that can be accurate . We can really only trust offical announcements on subscription numbers on the official Blizzard Warcraft site . Interestingly there has nt been any news on sub numbers since December 2008 . So my guess is that theres been a drop and certainly not an increase . If the news was good there Blizzard would be trumpeting it from the rooftops and they are silent on the subject .
No its not.

World of Warcraft is not dying. Its life span will last at minimum, another 6-8 years. Ultima Online has been running for 12 years. I see WoW rivaling UO's success (and possibly surpassing them) as the longest running game in MMO history.
So no need to start hording your cookies, my friend. Your "world" is not ending (any time soon, at least).
Not only this site but the whole world is full of delusional idiots, last i heard it was around 10 million or so.
you played the same game for over 4 years its time to let it go and move on.
actually they kinda did poof you to at least 60 with the dk
Well wow isn't dieing, atleast not on my server
I understand that it is hard to get groups for older dungeon and raid stuff, but that's why we will have cross server grouping soon in 3.3.
And for the rest, this is my 5the year of wow and I haven't had this problem, I play on darksorrow EU a high populated server.
Dalaran and orgrimmar are packed with players, and I need like 5 minutes to get a group to every instance (lvl80) I want.
So... is wow dieing? NO
-------------------------------------------------------------------
waiting for ... nothing..
Talking about the situation in my country: WoW is not dying...on all but 2-3 servers it is dead for month. This years' summer was the final nail in the coffin, people left for other things than gaming and didn't came back to WoW after.
The server i played on has about zero alliance left. You barely see some of them in Dalaran, while all SW and IF are empty 24/7. The server was one of the last servers Bizzard opened and had a bad horde:alliance ratio from the beginning on. The few established alliance guilds all transfered off by now and folks in different realmpools are screaming for server-merges left and right.
This may not kill WoW in general, but it adds up to the bigger picture. WoW IS dying.
