This may sound a bit weird, but I really want to enjoy searching for resources in the middle of no-where, where I could pitch a tent and set up a camp fire. I remember doing this in SWG back in 2005, and I haven't found a game that could provide that sort of enjoyment since.
Mainly I'm looking for an mmo where I could explore vast landscapes, and be able to camp / fish / and create a campfire for buds when we're searching for resources for crafting.
Once again this may sound a bit cheesy, but this was the sort of adventure role-play that I love.
Thanks guys,

i have a somewhat similar gripe with MMO's nowdays. Its mostly running around in the open looking for ore veins that are sticking out of the ground. I found Runescape and UO's mines (actual mines that you went to instead of randomly wandering in the open) to be far more immersive and fun than any modern MMO's. Same thing goes for mobs. I loved the set up camp and grind system in SWG and very few games favour this mostly due to silly mob placements.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
I guess it's just the since of adventure that I miss. If I can find another game where it was an honest challenge to search for resources and pitch a tent / campfire in that area for a while, that would be fine by me. So far Fallen Earth looks like it has those features that I missed from playing SWG in the past. Another good mmo that had this sense of adventure was EVE, but I'm more of an avatar player than a ship player.
Are there any other games that don't have controlled set paths for resources and quests?

I like what you said about exploring vast landscapes and collecting the stuff you need to craft. Nowadays, what game do you think has a feature like that? I love making my own equipment and not relying on anyone's craftsmanship.
Entropia Universe is a game you need to run around and use your mining tools to find places to mine and you have to go out and hunt mobs to get parts to make stuff, but i have not played that game to much in the past few months so might have changed but they did upgrade there graphs so i might be back there some time soon
I checked it out in the internet and it made me remember the PC game "The Sims".

not even close to The sims ya when you use emotes your guys talk gibberish, only game i can say this game is like it would be a sci-fi eq, it has a good 1st person view like eq has and it is a massive world like eq but it's a skill base system and i have been on and off this game for over 5 years, i only tossed my toon 50 bucks to get some mining and hunting gear and i can go out and kill and try to mine and make money to fix and buy back my ammo.
people buy land and make real money off this game and it has been like this from day 1, if you can get into a good guild i am sure you could make good money to pay for ingame stuff and might be able to make a few bucks on the side.. i just play for fun and it's why i only go on there a few days and off for a few months.
been getting emails about how they are adding new quest system and upgraded there graphic with the cry engine so that is why i am down load it now to see the new landscapes.
Wow! It seems like it is a very interesting game primarily because it could possibly satisfy what I look for in a game. Thank you for this very nice information and I might as well check it out too.
Well if you don't mind older games then I suggest Ryzom and Istaria. Both games have have good exploring and crafting.
Make games you want to play.

No matter how old it is, as long as it's for free and my computer can handle it. It's ok for me.
has anyone tried Fallen Earth yet?

What is that game sir?
lol
Which FF Character Are You?
Why?
I remember the open ended game SWG was before the CU. The first character I created was a Scout, I enjoyed the simplicity of exploration, character depth and choices the game had to offer. Sadly, they decided to downgrade the game by dropping 30 professions in favor of 9, and making Jedi playable from the very start, rather then having to work for it. Ironically Jedi and Bounty Hunters to kill Jedi were popping up everywhere, and 20 plus unique professions like the Teras Kasi Specialist, Doctor, and Ranger disappeared into myth. Most of the mmorpgs available now focus too much on leveling and pvp, eventually turning the game into nothing more than a fast paced and stressful job. I can understand the enjoyment of advancement and facing challenges, but not when it's at the expense of exploration and spontaneity. It's disappointing that there isn't a different approach to advancement than the mind numbing grind to the level 80, or is it 90 now?
never came across something like what the OP is looking for in an MMO. i have come across realistic crafting and supply gathering mechanics in MUDs tho, and of special note, in Dwarf Fortress. of course, the trade-off is its text based.
