LF Good MMORPG that can be bought in stores, but without a monthly fee.

aluhvihnaluhvihn Member Posts: 7

So yea, I'm looking for a good MMORPG that you can buy in stores, but it can't be a game with a monthly fee because my parents won't let me, even if it's with my own money.. =/ Yea, they keep a strict watch over my wallet, though I'm 17.. I'm kinda a sheltered kid..

Basically, I'm looking for a game that has moderate to above average grind, and a game that involves a lot of interaction, but is also suitable for solo-play, seeing as all my friends quit MMORPGs for Halo..

Anyways. Games I have tried in the past:

Guild Wars (It was fun, but I didn't really have any friends who played, so I was kind of clueless as to how to play it. Thought that was a  long time ago, and I could probably figure it out now.)

Silkroad Online (Was fun, by my friends quit, and the grind for skill-farming was just horrid. And I heard this game is full of botters now, so...)

Lunia (It got kind of boring/repetitive)

Dragonica (Really hard to play if you don't have any friends who play, such as in my case..)

LaTale (Ehhh...)

Cabal Online (This was alright, but I simply did not really like the whole mapping out of the whole game.. Don't know why)

9Dragons (Didn't really like it)

Games I play right now:

Maplestory (Still play it sometimes, but I've kinda outgrown it)

2Moons (I play this right now, pretty fun)

Runes of Magic (Downloading right now, I've heard that it's fun, so I'm going to give it a go)

Dungeon Fighter Online (Just tried this yesterday, it's pretty interesting/entertaining, but I just have feeling that I'm going to grow out of it by next week)

So yea. I don't really have anything to play atm, and I'd like some suggestions as to what I should consider buying. Any/all suggestions are appreciated.

Guild wars IMO is the best game that is FTP. Guild wars 2 will be lots better, when it comes out...

The only one I can think of that you can buy in stores without having a monthly fee is CrimeCraft and it's not even going to cost that soon. Just the monthly fee and even that'll be optional.

Otherwise, you can buy games like Knights of Dream City and Roma Victor for $15-20 one time payment, and if you play your cards right in Roma Victor (let others make you items when starting and train you rather than going to NPCs), you won't have to pay again.

It's a historical MMO set in ancient Rome with Romans vs Barbarians. You pay a one-time $15 payment and they give you an account and $10 worth of Sesterces (in-game cash). If you're smart and let other players teach you your needed skills, you won't ever have to buy a cent of Ses again.

In-depth crafting, player-housing and skillful twitch-based combat too.

If you don't like the graphics but think you'd like the game, they have a new client coming out soon with a vast graphical upgrade. Even so, I wouldn't wait for the client to come out. Apparently the price will rise when it does and you can still get a feel for the game before then for only $15.

So I'm assuming that the community of Roma Victor is quite friendly/helpful? That sounds good, because I forgot to mention that I hate games where I try to ask for help/tips and everyone is just so non-responsive..

They're really friendly and responsive and if you ask for an item, most will automatically train you in the skill too.

It's had some issues in the past and a lot of players may not recommend it but it's getting better and if it's your cup of tea, it's relatively cheap.

The only issues I've had with the game yet are random glitches where I may end up a few yards in the air for no apparent reason

    and

that 75% of players are European so late-night American playing may be a bit barren but in the afternoon you should be good. =]

Dungeons & Dragons Online. Its not in the stores, but thats cause its doesn't need to be. You can go download it for free and start playing for free. It used to be a pay to play game, so its got plenty of content and balance already. If you like it, there are options to expand your fun. You can do one time payments for extra quest packs, classes, races, etc. Or (if you ever get the chance and you REALLY like it) you could start paying monthly and unlock everything right off the bat. I play it now, and I pay monthly, because I like to support it. So at least take a look at the free stuff. Send me a PM and I'll let you know which server I'm on and my character names.

...or you could go with one of the many recent EvE/TCoS/DDO fanboys and play their game.

I have reasons for not playing them.

The Chronicles of Spellborn - no prominent PvP

Dungeons and Dragons Online - the free section is almost like a tease, seeing as you have to pay to unlock each section or pay monthly.

EvE - the combat is way too basic for me...plus, monthly fee.

There is plenty of free content in DDO. But of course they are going to tease you to some extent. They want to lure some people over to pay for stuff and to make money. My point is, give it a try, because it is free. And you aren't limited to X number days of a trial. You can take as much or as little time as you want.

Well it's the whole "it bothers people to only know half the story" thing.

It's more frustrating to like a game and not be able to pay monthly for it after playing through all of the free content than it is to pay $20 for a game once and be happy with your decision.

    Why? I'll tell you.

Say you got 20 minutes of an hour and a half long movie free. Say you also can't pay for it.

Are you going to watch it just because it's free? Maybe.

Are you going to be frustrated for the same reason? Definitely.

    Because it's creamy.

    Soft, creamy beige.
