Opinion on the expense of Alganon

Kram59Kram59 Member Posts: 153

Of course this is only my opinion. I can't understand the fuss about the cost to play Alganon. Some people make a good point about many of the flaws and risks of getting involved with this game, but I think if a game is being critiqued or ridiculed, money shouldn't even be a factor. I am a working stiff, certainly not rolling in the dough, but I paid $40.00 and will try this game. If the game was free I would try it. But the fact of the matter is money has nothing to do with it. It sounds to me like the folks that think this is too much money for a untested product, simply shouldn't play it. I currently play Eve and plan on staying with that. I was jazzed about Alganan at first because of the fact it was a small, dedicated group that was trying to maybe strike out on their own and create something homey and intimate. I since have, to be quite frank, have come to think that this might not be the game I was hoping for, but will still play and possibly give it a good try (6 months?) I have played every game since I beta tested the grandfather of online games. (Meridian59) I have lost my passion and drive ever since it peaked playing Camelot. (I was obsessed with that game) Since the passion for online gaming is waning in me, I was hoping this might ignite a new spark. I realize this is a long text read and many people will likely skip over it. I don't address many forums or boards as I get discourage at the immaturity and caustic remarks sprinkled through out. It's one thing to voice a mature "opinion" and quite another to simply write "you suck"!   We are gamers... We should have more of a bond based on that, then ripping people apart.

Now, lets all game till we bleed. and don't let a troll bite you in the butt....

My big problem with Alganon is not the price but the fact that they will release the game in 1 week and this game is not half finish.

My first impression when i tried the beta ( 2 weeks ago) was this game is not bad but geez they have a lot of work to do to be good game and i was thinking maibe if they keep refining and polishing the game for at least 6 month or even a years, i might buy it. But now they will release it in 1 week..

Now all i can tell is i will not buy  a game who is not even near a finish product. Had my experience with AOC so no thank you, anyway this is clearly my opinion if people want to buy it i really dont mind.

Well put, Silok. I also played Conan and was very excited when it first was released. I agree with what you said. Also as a former business man of many years, I completely realize the fine line. Sadly when you reach a breaking point to where you have to generate income or completely scratch the whole project, you have to make a decision. It's a crap shoot. <sigh> It's a shame these developers can't go online and buy gold from farmers.

I have learned my lessen with MMOs in general, that you will probably lose out ($$$ wise) in the beginning due to most MMOs being pushed out the door to early (shakes fist at the publishers).   But Alganon takes the cake. For whatever reason they are dead set on releasing this game and completely dead set on making it p2p. I almost never say this, but this game will NEVER make it the way it is now.

There are games that get rocky starts, REAL rocky starts, and bounce back and go on to hold a solid player base but this one will not be one of them. Hell, look at Tabula Rasa. That game had potential and a lot of people still wish they would stayed with it. If that failed with what they had, what chance does Alganon have?

Time will tell. I will be " OMG WTF, ROFLCOPTER!!!!" surprised if this one stayed around for the long hull.

The game has problems and shouldn't be released yet.  There are a lot of crashes still happening for "unknown" reasons.  The graphics are nice, except for the characters and their animations (they need a lot of work).  The missions are the same ole, same ole, maybe even a bit on the boring side. I don't think the game is worth the asking price in its current state.

I want to know for Alganon to be competing within the portion of the MMO industry that provides a fantasy setting (majority of the industry), what new does Alganon bring to the table? Only thing I see is studies and that to me isn't all that unique and I actually believe it is more properly used within a sandbox. Don't get me wrong, offline progression is a cool thing for casual gamers like myself, but having two different types of progression can cause some confusions within the game and all I seem to get from it (from what I saw) are bonuses to specific stats and access to particular parts of the game. Does abilities/skills/spells come into it as well?

However, aside from the not-so-unique offline progression, what is Alganon truly bringing to the table here? I believe there should be that 1 major thing that sets itself apart from everything else its competing against or we would be better off playing the other more polished games set in the same type of world. With Alganon, I don't see anything major that they are bringing and I would like to know if I'm missing anything.
