Fallen Earth- The Endless Download of Doom!

doomdealer79doomdealer79 Member Posts: 24

I don't know about anyone else's experience with this game. I can't talk about the game though I read good and bad on it in forums so I assume somehow other people are getting the game.... as for me I have officially been downloading the free trial of the game (or at least updating it) for 3 solid days! Holy crap endless download of doom batman!

And before the geek squad jumps on the bandwagon there's nothing wrong with my computer or internet connection or provider for that matter. I have had no problem with any other game or download before this. So, am I alone in this or is this some sneaky ploy where you get a 14 day trial and they take 13 days to download to avoid giving you enough free trial time to discover the faults in this game?

Well its downloading like 4.5 gigs of files, and there are a lot of small files that it downloads indivually, which slows down the overall transfer rate. I took 12 hours.

Yes I can download 5gb or even more within a hour with other downloadeble stuff, NO I couldn't do that with Fallen Earth. Got the key on the 25th this month, but got started yesterday, due to the long download/update's.

but hey it's a FREE trail, I aint paying anything for it, so not sure what the OP's problem is with something that is offered for free.

In fatc it's pretty nice, this way if I might decide the game turns out right for me, it will save me allot of time when I would actualy buy the game.

Never said anything was wrong with free. I say there's something wrong with something that doesn't seem to work. Free junk is still junk. Mostly though I was just trying to find out if it was just me who was having crazy issues with getting this thing to download. I'm hoping the actual game is great, I just hope I actually get a chance to try it before the trial runs out.

since it is dling that slowly, your PC should be free to do whatever else you want.

so what is the deal?  your own impatience?

I already stated my deal with it... what's your deal? Inability to understand what other people are clearly stating?

It isnt just you, the download for this game is awful period, love the game, but dear God their download method is a pile of shite, its not just the size of the download, which is a fair chunk, its the method of downloading each and every file.

Bit torrant or any sort of compression would make things easier.

Indie company, give kudos for what they have achieved, but some things are going to niggle and appear to be held together with gaffe tape and spit.

No it isn't just you, it just takes allot of time to download/update/install.

Sure take DDO for example, that to me was the fastest game I ever downloaded, installed and was online ingame within 10 minutes, no other demo or MMORPG trail has ever been so fast. Like I said it took along time for me aswell to eventually get FE running.

And nobody said anything was wrong with free, what I said was it's FREE so why complain. Even if it's less time then the full 14 day trail you will still be getting free playtime, compared to those who actualy subbed to the game and pay for the same time we get it for free.

so if you actualy read the replies you would have noticed that it isn't just you.

But I have to wonder if your already impatience to get in game I am not sure if a game like FE would be something you might enjoy.

Ok you win, although ones with stories sounding more like mine came after I had said that. Anyhow I don't know about you but I'm ALWAYS impatient to get into a new game that looks promising. However I have the patience to work my way up through the game once I'm there and doing something. Assuming the game is well done and keeps you engaged. Or if nothing else leaves you room to viciously gun down people for the sheer amusement value of it at the end of the day!

I really don't know why it's taking so long to download and update FE for some people. I did it the day that the free trial client became available and it took me the usual amount of time for a client this size, which is some hours but it was frankly done for me in a surprisingly short amount of time... I don't know what to tell you.

I just downloaded the open beta client here http://www.fileplanet.com/202456/200000/fileinfo/Fallen-Earth-Open-Beta-Client and patched it... worked fine and downloaded in just under 2 hours

Shame if you where going to buy it I would say go get the retail box and not dl I had it running withing 5 min after installing.

When I was patching I was having a problem with the patcher. It would stop responding if I tried to do anything else while downloading the patches. No biggies on my part, buddy had brought borderlands over for the day.

The secret sauce is the green font. Reason most people have trouble updating through patcher and you dont.

There I gave it away !!

It's also funny the reasoning some people have here. They come to this conclusion that since the OP is impatient with the snail patcher  perhaps FE is not the kind of game for him. LOL? I guess the snail patcher is there on purpose to filter-out the  kinds of people they don't like to have in their game? THE IMPATIENTS!!!   rofl.

Yeah patcher was slow as hell for me too. I got around that by DL'ing the open beta client from fileplanet and then there was 350-400 MB left to go. Much less painful.

Took me 9 hours to download/update/install. It would have been 5x quicker if they were using the libtorrent library like other recent MMORPG's.

I imagine the further away, worse your connection, or firewall settings, will severely increase your download time.

There's nothing really wrong with it. Infact, you can find the full client (beta or otherwise) on websites and it will update from that. Much less time spent updating (and if you saved your key for that client you won't lose much time at all).

Free, not free, they want customers, and trial users are potential customers, so their opinions matter. Download speed matters.

Dunno, when I bought the game on release day I started the download over night and when I woke up it was there. And I just slept 4 weeks. Just kidding. :P Took a night to download the game. Though, I downloaded it from steam, maybe that's the difference, no idea.

I remember though that WAR was a horrible download.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
