So, I broke down and actually logged in (I have a 6 month sub and I haven't logged in about a month) to look at the Bloodmoon event. First of all, the event consists of these 13 portal type things in MC. They are all on a 30 minute timer. When the timer goes off...a boss appears, you have to defeat 50 zombies before you fight the boss. After the boss is defeated, you get a quest to free the hero spirit that corresponds to that portal device thingy. The character I played, was level 34, the zombies and bosses outside of the portal thingy were 18, that's fine...I guess. So I get into the portal and enter my instanced mission...all the zombies are level 18, the instance did not match my level. So, I have to do this 12 more times with instances that don't match my character level? I have to wait for the different timers to go off and fly all over the zone to hit the different portal thingies to defeat the boss to get the quest? It's more of a headache than an event.
I must mention there are other parts of the event, but the MC portal thingy is the main one. I mustered through three portal thingies and realized this was more of a chore. No challenge, just boring and mundane. They could have at least match the instance to your level or to the highest level team mate, if on a team.
After about an hour, I remembered why I don't play this game. I was hoping that this event would inspire me to come back, but no luck. Good try Cryptic, but I must say....Fail!

Coulda been worse, you could've logged in on the first day when the portals were on a 2 hour timer and had no beam indicating their location in the city. You also could've stuck around to try to wait on Takofone to spawn, a completely random rarely spawning event that plays just like the portals, but spawns in one of three locations. We spent almost an hour in a group of 4, 1 person camping one shard while the rest of us shard hopped before we finally found him.
That first day did make for a good community event as everyone immediately realized they couldn't do all the portals so congregated at the power house to share all the quests from each portal we had done instead and leaving the perks for later.
I just started using teleport to get through the crypts after I realized they were all the same, and had gotten my 1000 zombie perk in...
yeah two things.. three actually.. ok four
1) Better adopted levels
2) Should have been a big boss at the end of completing all quests
3) They should have made it so it was a required 5 people in a group to complete AT LEAST the added end boss, but even simply 5 man group for the quests.
4) Shoulda been easier to get the quests
5) I'm not so sure making all quest instances the same map was a good idea. It brought familiarity, so I guess it wasn't a biggy - but the first four woulda been nice.
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
There are a lot of things they could have done differently. They made it feel like a chore and not a game. This is supposed to be something I'd want to log in and do. Not something I dread doing. I must say, even the trick or treating in CoX is better.
if your said that on their forums you would be attacked! co fan boys make fun of the door events in cox, which now theirs sevrial difrnet events beside the doors, zombie one thats random threw the zones,an a banner one thats prety neat to.dare you bring any thng postive about any other game but co .your in their fan boys eyes a whiner,or they get the thread locked asap.
i canceled yesterday .tween the bugs , server down time, log in server problems an they only added a the power set a few repeatable misions an on pvp mission i just lost what hope i had in them.hope they turn it around maybe look at the game next year .realy had hoped the event would swing me to stay as a customer.

I canceled yesterday between the bugs, server down time, and log in server problems. Only things they added were the power set, a few repeatable misions, and a pvp mission. I lost what hope i had in them. Hope they turn it around fix the problems by next year. Was really hoping the event would swing me to stay as a customer.

To remark on your reply Axeion, you would be surprised how many people from CO came from CoX. Champions was being dubbed as CoX successor before it was even released. In ways....it still is. It was the so called "Tweaking" that was given to the game that turned people away. Turned into an all out who-can-find-as-many-I-WIN-buttons-before-the-next-patch scheme. It is slowly revamping up to how it was though. Slowly, but surely
You also complain about how there are all these CO fanboys flaming CoX. At the moment, you seem to be a lost CoX fanboy trying to find the url to the forums. How about you stop trolling and get lost, will ya?

Yeah, same with me. I was really hoping for something special with this event, and with all the hype it had, I was actually hopeful. This is no where near what it could have been. It's sad really.
if you join the LFG channel .. /channel_join LFG .. people will every now and then be offering to share all quests. Thats what I did, joined up took all the quests.. found 4 more gave them the quests we blew through them all. You don't have to fight everything, just get your 40 shards on one of the zombie generators, then run to the boss. Took an hour or so.

hmm you prove my point about how their comunity runs. disagree an your told to go away.point out problems your a whiner.again as i have said in few other threads i hope they turn it around.games one i want to love an barely liked.but you want urls ok.
start with this thread forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php
forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php nice thread about population youll find some other mmo bashing their as well.
to remark on you remark you might be surprised how many have dual acounts one in co one in cox. an how many have quit after their free month.oh an just because you call some one a troll doesnt make them a troll . but when you call your self a grammer nazi i dont think id argue that.
i learnt to type playing everquest.learnt to mispell in pulbic schools .an past few days my atempts at comunicating via posts have been frustrating .sinus infection coupled with agriavtion playing co or not since when i wanted to play servers were down or crashing..let me make it clear. trolls want games to fail an post to start arguments .they get their jollies from what they think would cause others problems.some like to lie to make trouble to.
pointing out problems of a game or a "comunity" does not make one a troll by default.ill check back in co forums from time to time offical an here to see whats changed .sorry to disapoint a self profesed grammer nazi. your last request is denied.
ps. im not a cox fan boy they can an have doen wrong . pvp for example.i quit a while back an came back after ae . enjoying a game does not make one a fan boy.beliveing a said game is perfect in every way. resort to personal attacks to defend said game. or sticking ones fingers in their ears an tell peopleto go away leans a bit to fanboyism.

I don't think Axeion is being a troll. I think he has legitimate complaints about the game, like many of us. Just because people have complaints, it doesn't make them trolls.
Apparently they have a free trial this weekend. I don't think that's a wise move, especially with this event taking place. Some players only get to play on weekends, but the first weekend of the event, they invite all these people to play. It's going to be lagtastic. I just feel sorry for the people who actually bought the sub and wanted to do the event this weekend. It seems they may have been "tricked" rather than "treated".
I doubt there will be such a terrible problem with lag, unless lag in general has gotten much worse since I stopped playing. For one thing, the free weekend isn't likely to bring them up to as many concurrent users as they had during the first month, and the first month the only place that lagged was Lemuria. Besides, most free trial players will spend the first few hours of play in the tutorial and the crisis areas, away from the rest of the game's population.
I did get an invitation to come back to the game for the weekend, and I thought it was awfully soon after launch for them to already be targeting cancelled subscribers. I figured one event isn't going to change the fact that the gameworld is suffocatingly small; after reading your post I'm glad I didn't bother reinstalling. Maybe next Halloween. . .
The undead heroes portion is the worst part of the blood moon content. You are judging based on one part of the event.
The BITE PvP in Canada, the Zombie PvP minigame and the new Celestial Power set are cool and definitely worth doing. The Bite event is probably the most fun I've had in Canada the entire time I've been playing.
This may be an issue if it weren't for the incredibly slow patching. I saw the free weekend of CO for the event on Steam and decided to check it out. The download and install took no time at all thanks to the steam servers, but now the patching is taking forever. Almost 3 gigs to patch and after 30+ minutes it's not even 5% done.
Hopefully this patch will finish and I'll be able to get some play time in before this free weekend is over. Maybe.
Unfortunately I have to agree that this event was poorly handled.
I've been trying to play all week. And I'm at 1% of the patch. After trying a dozen times I decided to leave the computer running all week. Still at 1%.
So far the only way I can participate the event is via someone else's screenshots or a vid capture on Youtube.
Still have yet to get to the game login screen.
I very rarely PvP. One of those PvP instances isn't just for the event, it will stick around. As far as the Celestial Power set, you have to do the horrible undead heroes portal thingy to get it.
Like I said earlier the undead hero portal thingy is the biggest part of the event and Cryptic really dropped the ball with it.
The event as an overall, jsut slightly got a thumbs up from me. It did seem like more of a chore then a challenge, but having been here since the start of Open beta, they are getting much better with their events and in about 1-2 morethey should be on track.
The key is they need to listen and take to heart what went wrong. 6 hour spawn for Tako and requiring shard hopping just to get a glimpse of him = not fun.
... gamer forever
that was there Halloween event it was post to something they do for fun that was easy.
I also finally logged back in to CO tonight after a 6 week break. I joined a team and ground out several of the undead hero instances. It would feel like less of a grind if it wasn't always the SAME map, SAME mobs with a different hero to rescue.
Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
I did the Blood Moon PVE event this weekend and defeated all 13 heroes.
My thoughts good & bad:
good:
- People of all levels banded together to do the event. You had Level 40s fighting side-by-side with Level 18s. This was GREAT. Not even in the more polished MMOs do you see devs encourage grouping of all levels like this
- When an undead hero emerges (like Vigil). You had different groups work together to kill the Villain
- I love zombie apoc. Great fun.
- You get perks and unlock costumes for defeating the villains. Plus you unlock the new set.
- You got XP once you completed the quests (sort of uncertain on this one. Quests that were L26 I got XP. Quests that were L18 I dont recall any XP)
Bad:
- all the crypts were the same.
- Like OP says. The zombies dont scale to your level. This was a good thing. It allowed us to skip all the fodder and just rush to the end and kill the boss.
- The bosses are on a 30 min timer. But it forces the community to work together to share the quests. I thought htis was good actually sort of. We nevrer had to sit there and wait on a boss to spawn. We simply killed a different boss then came back and slayed that boss. Plus I saw people offering to share their quests for bosses in global chat.
My only main gripe really is the Quests did not award XP regardless of Level. For this event, XP shoulda been scaled to your level. This way after killing the boss you get XP no matter what
I'm glad the zombies didnt scale to my Level. It woulda been an awful grind to have to kill all those zombies. you gotta do 13 crypts you know. Each crypt has bout 100-200 zombies or something. So thats 13 x 100 which equals 1300 zombies! Screw dat LOL. Cause they were such low level, you could blow right past them. Plus, the final boss was L18 and was fun to kill. If he scaled to my level he woulda been impossible for us to 2 man!!!
So I liked the event. Never grouped so much in this game ever.....
Sure, you coulda just soloed normal quests and got better XP. It was a huge fail on that part. But I gotta say I had fun. Lots of fun really. I was surprised. But i wanted to unlock the new set pretty bad for some reason
Yeah at times I did feel like it was a senseless grind. It's an odd feeling to have in this game- because when we're just running missions the XP is just so easy it flows like butter
