Interesting idea, once they get all the cam videos up on their website you can work out who you want to date.

I DO have a problem with the semi-requirement of making MALE spellcasters wear DRESSES or suffer a penalty in equipment buffs because TUNICS are not not optionally available with the same buffs  as DRESSES (Robes) And don't give me the story that it is standard equipment for those classes.
This is a manufactured impression generated by groups for whatever reason - like Witches are all old ugly females IRL - WRONG.  I have been a Wiccan High Priest for over twenty years (my wife was my High Priestess) and our men wear TUNICS and Trousers. I know many other groups with the same attitudes.
If a company is so stupid as to limit the right of a player to play the opposite sex (for whatever reason) they deserve to go out of business. Unfortunately there are probably enough Dipsticks out there that think their way to keep them alive.

RAWWWWRRRRR!!!!!!!! Mr. made up weird story about murdered wife. What the hell is so horrible about male toons wearing ROBES, not dresses, i mean i guess you could call them dresses but it was my understanding that these things were usually robes or kilt type vestiments... And as for your comment about IRL robe wearing and such, who gives a flying fuck about that. Besides your a wiccan... lol only slightly better than a scientologist.

Sounds like I hit a nerve on someone who is a bit brainwashed (someone jump on your enema bag?)
In the USA we have the right to choose our own religion - guaranteed by the Constitution - not necessarily what someone else THINKS is the proper way to believe. I do not pay much attention to the MINORITY who think THEIR religion is the ONLY one. Check out CHURCH statistics - NOT stupid biased PAID FOR POLLS
And FYI - the part about my wife is true - whether you believe it or not. I really don't care.
As for the ROBES (DRESSES) I'm not into cross dressing - sounds like YOU might be.

Well you are quite the little bitch aren't you? Lol at you for the wife thing douche. Wiccans are all tards. If anyone is brainwashed its you (please drink the Kool Aid!). I dont follow any religion because i havent found one that I like. And wearing ROBES and KILTS and a number of other clothes is not cross dressing you insecure little donkey raping faggit. Lots of cultures have men that wear these sorts of things all the time. (BTW never had an enema, sounds like fun though).

Now normally i would never be the troll like this but you my friend are just too tempting.

    You two...seriously.

Wiccans are not all "tards," just the ones that call themselves High Priest(ess) or this or that of the <number> order. Those are (usually) just people that want to feel special or better than people of other faiths, but I will not speak to Vendegaar, as I do not know anything about his practice. I am a witch, and while I am female, it is completely normal for a man to be a witch. It is much more of a free-form type of faith, much more along the lines of gnosticism in the Christian faith. They do not adhere to the bollocks of scriptures and elaborate rules and made-up histories. And in fact, many of us are technophiles, like myself. In fact, the majority of the most educated in most Western countries are decidedly not Christian, they are instead Agnostic or Wiccan, or another faith that does not try to keep wool over their people's eyes.

And as for you, ghostofspuds, who are you to say that he is not a Witch, or that he is stupid for being one? He has every right to be what he chooses to be, and follow the path that works for him, just the same as you or I. Don't be rude for the sake of being rude. You do not know what happened with his wife, and while I think it was wrong of him to bring it up here, maybe it hurts and that helps him somehow. You poking fun of him for it does not help. If it is a lie, he is a bad person for making light of such a thing, but if it is not a lie, you are a bad person for the same reason. You cannot assume he is lying, and since this is a situation in which you will never really know him, you should just take it for what it is and be done with it. Picking on him only makes you look small.

As for the caster and robe debate here, I think it certainly makes sense to be able to change the look of our shirts/robes. What if I do not want to wear a robe? Men are not the only ones that think that is silly. Even if I am not a fighter class, the lack of perceived mobility is annoying. Also, I like to have cute avatars, and I do not like them to be so covered up. I think it makes perfect sense to be able to choose skins for certain slots, chest and/or shirt or whatever being one of them. Certainly most men I have played with are at least mildly annoyed at the prospect of wearing long robes that do indeed look like dresses. Why should they not be allowed to wear shirts, while keeping the same power. This is just one more argument for crafted items. Every (or almost every) equip-able item in a game should be crafted. Then, the crafter can make a robe version or a shirt version and the problem is solved! Just like that.

So, women should have just as much a right to wear tunics and trousers as men, and this should be something that they can accomplish in game. Look around you in your daily lives. The vast majority of women these days are wearing tunics and trousers. I know I more often than not wear pants. If I am wearing a skirt, it is usually because I am going somewhere or doing something where I want...special attention. I know that is untoward, but sometimes that is what a girl needs to do.

I will leave you with a parting statement about game play that I think it pertinent in this case.

More freedom is always a better route. More choices are always better.

    Blessed be.

    Edit:

Biofellis: I agree with you completely. I wanted to let you know that pro-humane is a perfectly acceptable construction in English.

step in the right direction, frankly guys who play girl toons are really creepy. i know its difficult to understand for people who do this but thats just the way a lot of people feel.  men should be men, pretending to be female is dishonest. i used to play mmo's but now i log on and its full of all these dorks pretending to be women, dont want to spend play time with these devianta who cant decide on what they are, just muddies the whole mmorpg market into something more sinister. you know what maybe if you got rid of the dorks pretending to be girls you would get more girl gamers, i hear lots of talk of this but log into a wow server and its nothing but the problems i mentioned above, a sausage fest of all guys.

if the gender benders want to do this give them their own transvestite servers. this company should be appluaded for taking this step and having the balls to stand up to the pc everything goes crowd who try to bully rest of gaming population. most people dont like guys playing girl toons its creepy and twisted, but we pity these type of players and allow it.

Everybody in an MMORPG is pretending to be something they're not. Why is this different? I ask this question whenever I get involved in a discussion about this issue, and I have yet to have anybody give me an answer.

You have, of course, proof to back up your claim that most players agree with you. I would be obliged if you could post it.

The number of women who play MMOs is so small, it is just better to go about assuming that everyone in-game is a man, and every female toon is being played by some weird dude.

Yes, I do think "gender-bending" is creepy, as for the life of me I can't understand the desire to do it. I still play and group with people playing female toons, of course, I just assume they're just a type of dude I don't get and don't really trust with anything.

    lulz were had, so true.

@sachy55 if you treat a woman differently than a man... in a video game... you either need to grow up, or need help.

p.s. If kids like you wouldn't hit on my female avatars when in no way, shape or form did I ever suggest I WAS a female, then I wouldn't pretend to be a female just so I could screenshot your pathetic attempt of "hooking up with me in RL" and then telling you I'm a guy while LOL'ing in /shout, then posting the results online for the whole world to see you were trying to get a piece of virtual ass online. Now if you're "roleplaying" a "Male avatar" interested in my "female avatar" then I roleplay along... but it's an in-game in-character thing. If you're asking to see my tits, want to cyber characters by kneeling down on my body or some shit, and giving me your e-mail address then you're a pig that deserves to be pwnt.

By the way. The voice of Bart Simpson is a woman, and Santa doesn't exist, and I will continue roleplaying female avatars lol'ing at your attempts to give me stuff in exchange for tits. Where is your god now?

Some of my friends play female toons but I never will. I don't find the ideal of being a woman appealing in the least. But the difference is while I may never do it just like alcohol and tobacco will never be permitted in my home does not mean I don't want you to do it if it floats your boat. Keep it simple I'll respect your right to do it if you respect my right to think your wrong. Everyone wins.

You said the # of RL women playing in MMO's are small. I would assume you are correct. You would therefore understand what in game worlds would be like... if everyone properly portrayed their sex in game as they were in RL.

If you enjoy being around lots of men, playing games with lots of men, grouping with lots of men and talking to lots of men... well you're entitled to enjoy... whatever you want. But personally... it's a fantasy world for me. The avatars are just that... purely aesthetic. I never question if a dude programmer made the text for a female NPC.

If that's what people want, all the more power to them... but to me... this is what it'd be like.

put it this way i think its wrong to push these types of games onto young impressionable minds that pretending to be a girl is okay, lets be honest games like wow are targeted at a younger audience with the cartoon styling. giving players the option to choose gender is perverse and especially for a younger audience indulging or encoraging this, it makes me sick to be in a gaming enviroment that allows this. i think its kind of sad a large proportion of younger generation and older act effiminate and cross dress. i think to promote a healthy society should teach men to be men and women to be women , cant get any simpler than that.

Oh yea, while we are at it we could ban women from MMOs as they belong in the kitchen in the first place...

People like you make me sick. Who do you think you are? Why would it be perverse for young boys to look upon women as heroic figures or role models. You mysogynist homophobe loser, youll never know the love of a woman unless you manage to find some poor creature thats been as blinded by ignorance as you are...

This could really get political huh? I see visions of women’s lib coming on demanding equal rights with society limiting what a game player can and can not do. Sticking to the topic of these companies procedures minus cultural and racial differences, I am forced to disagree with your view. On one had there is the concept of separating young minds to say boys are snakes and snails and puppy dog tails who should not cry or feel emotions. This may be a little confusing for the young mind that is taught in society that there is a glass ceiling that should not be there. I do not see a push effect from game companies, I see a lack of control in parenting. If a parent who feels as you do and does not want there child to play such a game which allows this ability…forbid them to play it. Simple huh? I mean which young impressionable mind can afford such games without support from mommy and daddy? You make a valid parenting point, I just don’t see how the power of impressionable minds are in the hands of any one other than the parent that purchases the pc and game for the child.

I'm not impressed by that argument when politicians use it to take away our rights, and I'm not impressed by it now.

You might stop and think what else it encourages a "younger audience" to pretend. This argument leads directly to the conclusion that we must ban MMORPGs altogether before we train children to go rampaging through the neighborhood with a battleaxe.

HA! Imagine all the asians now finding his mom's or sister's make-up and wig to make themself look as much as a girl as possible. I would pay a good buck to see a website of all these pictures. ..Hey, that's actually a pretty good idea. This website should be made!

Other than that, heck, i like playing a hot chick in mmos. If I'm gonna stare on the same character, a couple of hours a day for months to come, i might as well make something attractive to look at.

I think you need to stick to Match.com or something instead of playing MMORPGs if you need to get laid.

Plus you do know they have plug ins now that can make a guy should just like a girl?

What, you thought it was easy to make  you sound like Darth Vader, but hard to make you sound like a girl?

Yea right.  Ive also heard it said about cross-dressers "he/she looks so beautiful you couldnt tell she was really a man".  Total BS.  Maybe if I was really really drunk.

  • DaikataroDaikataro Member Posts: 9

Well, you don't have to be THAT drunk in some very VERY unique cases, i experienced myself when a guy introduced me to one of those guys, at first glance seemed like a woman, and it took me a few momento to analize a series of factors like the way he standed up, the general phisonomy, the presence of adan's apple on troath etc. to realize it was the work of a (incredibly damn good) surgeon

Now on-topic, i learned a VERY valuable rule when playing MMOs, EVERYONE is a guy until proven otherwise, what proof i require?

    -msn

    -webcam

-metroflog/fotolog/hi5/myspace or another one of those stupid sites where girls and emos upload pictures to

I used to play tibia, and found only 2 girls i'm certain are girls, i have them on msn since they quitted shortly after they started (like happens most of the time, they lose interest too fast), there is also a "shanera rl pictures" video in youtube where everyone shows their true self along with their char, still those pictures could be faked, edited, borrowed, etc. i have like 15 pics of girlfriends i could send, and know some more girls who would be willing to lend a picture, so faking a pic is pretty easy

Still i find it quite stupid to ban people from creating oposite-gender chars, i don't usually do it but neither do i condone those who do, it's a ROLE PLAYING GAME for christ's sake, if they want to play the role of a girl let them play the role of a girl, if someone believes they are real girls and ask them out on dates or give them gifts or stuff like that is their own fault for being stupid enough to believe someone they just met on an online game just because they have big pixel boobs

And one more detail, maybe being a girl is the only way they could complete a quest/choose a certain vocation? on tibia you cannot complete blood brothers quest without a female, and in perfect world international only girls can be WF/venomsniper

    Haikus are easy
But they don't always make sense

Im sorry, we just gonna have to agree to disagree. I dont see a ice cream company (for the sake of argument) opening a shop in paris (again, for the sake of argument) selling chocolate only to boys and strawberry only for girls doing very well, business wise. it can happen sure, but is it likely? no.

No but we don't disagree here. It's not about whether it makes good business sense or not.  The point is that you are free to try and run this kind of business in China.  Whereas in other places you will have people screaming for the police to come and force you to change your business model, or be shot.

Rothbard - here's a little REALITY check for your claims that there is more freedom for game companies in China.

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/181330/world_of_warcraft_may_go_dark_in_china.html

WoW is in danger of being shut down but some stupid government infighting.   And Blizzard can't do a damn thing.  They can't complain, they can't sue, they can't take it to the courts.     Political in-fighting like this has so powerful because Chinese government can do whatever they freaking want.

This would be like Apple being stopped from selling iPhones because a couple of Washington commitees got into a fight.

Yeah, that's freedom.    Get your story straight.
