No copies?

SquittySquitty Member Posts: 342

I'm atempting to change the focus of this forum a little by not posting a WoW vs Everything topic.

I have been trying to get a hold of WoW for quite sometime now since playing the beta. It's been about 2 weeks now since I first tried and every store I've tried has been sold out since and don't seem to either be getting any copies in or don't seem to know if they are getting any copies in.

Did I miss something? Is blizzard no longer shipping copies currently to work on server stability? And if so does anyone have a clue as to when they will begin shipping again.

I am in the same boat.  I checked every store I could think of and even checked everywhere online to no avail.  The other day I spoke to someone at EBGames and was told that Blizzard is stopping the sale of WoW for now because the servers are so full.

Anyone else have further information on this issue?

Wow (no pun intended), I find it very hard to believe that Blizzard would stop selling copies because the servers are so full... Unless they completely underestimated the demand of their game and sorely undersized core framework systems that are tough to upgrade on the fly, it seems that they could quite easily (given the time they've known about the huge demand) bring up new servers...

I'd like to see a source that actually says this.

My guess is that they are just waiting on more CDs to get pressed and boxed. The holiday season wiped out retailers, is all.

EDIT: My experience is that EBGames employees rarely know more than we do visiting forums and such. Many times they are actually surprisingly ignorant, but since they have to know stuff (since people ask them all day), they make stuff up or jump to conclusions on their own.

I've also seen rumors to the effect that Blizzard has stopped selling the game, and I'd say a clue towards this being true might be the fact that the game is extremely hard to find.

If it is true I wouldn't expect Blizzard to say anything as their communication with the community is stunningly poor.

They were trying to sell them for $150.00 on ebgames.com.  It seems like everyone is trying to come up.  They probably still have copies.  They did yesterday.

Well I can tell you right now the game is very stable.  Sure if you enter Ironforge city or Ogrimmar city, it lags... but any MMORPG will lag when you have hundreds of people concentrated in the same area at once.  Heck, if any of you Star Wars Galaxies players remember places like Coronet or Dantooine Mining Outpost, you wouldn't mind Ironforge or Ogrimmar.

Cause Ironforge and Ogrimmar represent less than 1% of places to explore in WoW, and it's the only 1% of the entire game that lags like crazy and has occasionally disconnected me off the server and I had to relog.

But no, the game is stable.  Copies of WoW are impossible to find just as much as Diablo 2 when it first came out.  Except Diablo 2 had a lack of stock cause Blizzard couldn't produce enough for the masses.  WoW is a bit of that, but also the fact they want to stop adding population too quickly.  There are some servers in WoW that have as many players as an old-school MMORPG with all servers combined together.  WoW is huge.  WoW has too many people.  Blizzard was probably not expecting to sell this many... so they had to reduce their stock until they can clear things up and make sure current servers don't get too overpopulated too quickly.

Cause the game is just too good.

Thought I would get my friend a belated xmass gift - picked up a copy in Wal-Mart ( They had about a dozen or so copies)

So check your Targets , K-Marts and other lower end sw dealers, they might just surprise you.

Yes! Listen to Therax you should!

I have three friends that didn't get the game when it was first released and they all  struggled finding the game as they repetitively checked Gamespot, EB, and bestbuy.

The thing is, all those places are already populated by vultures. However, your littl' redneck WallMart or K-Mart on the outskirts of town might just have a few copies that arrive sporatically. That is how all three of my friends got their copies.

I have to say I am amazed at how popular this game is. But when I look at it and play it, I have to say it's no surprise. It's a MMORPG for non MMOPRG people, yet verterans (well some I heard went to EQ2) play it too ...it adds up.

I can't wait for the battlegrounds! image

PS: Congratulations on your new years resolution Johnark image

I just received my copy from Blizzard yesterday.  So, ordering off their official website, www.blizzard.com , is legit.  They were also very prompt on shipping.  I had it overnighted, and I actually received it overnight.

Same problem here in Maryland.  My friend was looking to play WoW finally.   We called around and drove to: 7 Best Buys, 9 Gamestops, 6 EB Games, 4 Circuit Cities, 5 Wal-Marts, 2 Regular EB's, and a local store called Replay for it.   None not a one of them had a single copy of it.

From what I gather from the folks working the stores.  It's not that copies aren't being shipped.  Just that they are being bought the moment they hit the shelves.

While writing this i am ASSUMING that all posts before me were made from people/kids living in the USA (as soon as i heard walmart). i live in australia, and there are many shops around me where the game is plentifull. I went into an EB store a few days ago and a man came up next to me and bought the game. While following the clerk to the store room, i saw rows FULL of the world of warcraft game.

I LOVE living in a country where the masses of kids either surf or farm :) I am just in the middle.

I had the same problem finding a copy.  Personally I checked Gamestop first and they had no copies.  Then I went to EB games and had them call their other stores in the area.  Found a store with 3 copies about 20 minutes away.  Did you by any chance have them call their other stores and check for copies?  Both there websites were labeled as sold out, but one of the stores had them.  Definitely dont rely on the website is all I'm saying.

Also you might think I actually had it worse.  I asked someone in my family for christmas, got home and there was somethign wrong with the thrid disc.  Would not copy the files over to my hard drive, tried about 5 times (the long WoW install time doesn't help either).  So I went to about 6 stores, before having EB games near me call all their local stores to see if anyone had a copy.  You might consider that worse, cause I actually had the game in my hands, only it didn't fooking work image

I found my copy at Best Buy.  I always go EB and Gamestop first, but I would check everywhere including Circut City and even Fry's.

Blizzard isnt making any for the time being. Its not that they are being bought so fast, be realistic here. I looked in every website I could think of and not one had them in stock. Look at how much the servers go down, from what I hear on these forums. They are having over population problems and stopped shipping the game to all retail stores.

All the best buys around here are out of it, the game stores, everything. Not a copy in sight.
