I've been playing MMO's for over a decade and have been involved in all kinds of events. From the original halloween event in EQ with werewolves and undead charging down on Qeynos Gates to this latest debacle in Champions Online.
For starters I'd encourage any MMO company to ensure that if they plan on running events with limited time only rewards with timed scenarios that they best either make sure their servers are stable or there is a mechanism that allows for your progress to be tracked.
Just listening to zone chat more people are pissed off with Blood Moon then are pleased with it. It's an absolute shambles. Instead of drawing players to the game I just keep seeing about people who are leaving.
Where did Cryptic go wrong...I recall the Rikti Invasion at the end of CoH beta and it was pulled off quite well. Bit of lag but witht he number of people about that's understandable, at least the server didn't keep crashing out from underneath me.
The developers and people in charge of CO should be ashamed of the current state of the game. If this is how they handle something like Champions Online, a super hero MMO they've had a dry run with CoH before just how the hell are they going to pull off Star Trek. Looks like it'll be Star Wars for my sci fi fix.
Seriously disappointed.

Are you really suprised with all this?
I already saw how it was going to end up like within the first pre-order week and how they handled it and canceled my 6-month sub offer, without even buying the box.
And I am very glad I did.
I was stupid enough to fall for the trap and pick up on the 6-month offer (as Open Beta and Headstart weekend was a blast), but I was also smart enough to cancel it all and so save all my money, when I saw the true monkey crawl out of it's sleeve.
And I already plan to stay far away from STO. The whole direction of that game is a joke to me already.
Cheers
So that's a no-no for CO for me.
I was even looking forward to this game then this is what happened. Boo~
The event is truly sad. I logged in (the first time in a month) to try out the event hoping I would be enticed to come back. The timed portal things are just ridiculous, the missions don't scale to level, and it is just a chore/grind. Extremely disappointing. I think the CoX Trick or Treating event is better than this garbage.
The timed portal missions are lame, but the PvP stuff and the new Celestial powerset make up for it.
Because many of the developers only concentrate on the business aspect of games.....many companies have lost their way when it comes to creating games that are actually fun to play, they only worry about the bottom line.
Have to agree. This current event is just horrible, and the fact that it's based around perks, costumes, and pets, that you can only get now...ugh. I really enjoyed the Events in CoH where it was just an invasion and all you had to do was stay alive. I was expecting a lot from this event, and hoped it would repay my faith in Cryptic in the last tough two months. But for me it was Strike 3. Game Over.
Strike 1, nerfs on Sep 1st and since then.
Strike 2, all the other non-nerf bad decisions since launch.
Strike 3, coming out with this Blood Moon stuff.
IMO this game was great at pre-launch (Head Start), not WoW-great, but lots of fun. Everything they've done since then to change it has been going in the wrong direction. I don't think they've made one good choice in the last two months.
What was so great about the head start version? The fact that it was so stupid easy? The super cheap respecs? The super quick leveling?
Err...It is posts like these that make me wonder whether I'm playing the same game as them.
In the headstart, the game was stupidly ridiculously easy. It was horribly boring. Even a month into the Live, I was soloing 5-man instances and basically breezing through the PvE content without even paying attention.
A bunch of broken abilities have been fixed since then. PvP is much better now than it was...still imbalanced, but it was such crap before.
Couldn't agree more and these are the guys that are going to release STO, it really is a horrible shame.
I have not played in several weeks (cancelled 6 month sub earlier this month), and I am not going to to even try this bloodmoon event after reading the forums (was not that excited about it in the first place). I would definitely not pre-order STO after this experience, and am going to wait at least a few months to see how that turns out on release before even thinking about purchasing that game.
Yeah, I must agree. After the way Cryptic has handled CO, I won't be pre-ordering ANY games from them. I'm interested in STO, but Cryptic tricked me with CO. They won't be tricking me twice. I'll wait to see reviews and maybe a "free weekend" before I purchase STO.
Well it came up in my steam client, so i think hmz is it out ?
Did not even know it was out yet, last time i looked it had some missing wheels.
So i downloaded it, i think great steam fast update, FAIL
It downloads 600 mb and then wants to update and download another 2.7Gb at 28k8 speeds. (ARLF)
Took me 1 day to actualy get it with the patcher chashing now and again.
When i finaly get it the servers are down up down up down...
When i actualy got past the char screen and played a bit i started wondering..
People actualy pay to play this !?!!? , feals like a beta.
Its not missing wheels like i tought, its missing the rest
For the moost part it looks like CoV with a better engine + bugs.
They make nice character creation stuff but managing actual servers nah, should leave that to NC :P
And i was not wrong its still in beta with paying beta testers
Dont worry if the server crashes, u can buy a "30 day no crash" upgrade in the item mall :P
Its next to the "30 day Get the correct mission list after u get out of an instace" pill
Dont know if there is a pill for summoning 1 bot if one of them dies without needing to resummon all of them.
Damn annoying...
