I used to hate item shops with a passion and refuse to play any game with them.

After what Turbine did with DDO though my outlook has changed.

WAR should deff take a look at thier model and take it on board. For me its the way to go with online games. That is have a totally free aspect to the game, have an online shop to buy some upgrades / content packs from and offer the full all bells-and-whistles paid sub.

The model has worked well for DDO and I really believe its the way foward. Offering the free aspect to get people hooked then giving them the option of either paying for the parts they want or a full sub to get it all gives the player the option to play the game the way that best suits them.

Of course the model works best in an older game that can basically be "cut-up" in order to offer something in its cash shop, for WAR I'd guess that would currently be the added classes (Chopper, slayer, kotbs and deathknight class - I forget the name) and the additional content added. Hell they could even allow you to "buy" access to the more popular Scenerio's from cash shop while leaving a "free" one from each tier for all. They have the special event Sc's as well that they could offer, the Foundary one was one of my personal favs.

Maby they will look at this model in future and I may give the game a whirl again .. be nice to dust off my Ironbreaker and Kotbs to see whats happening in WAR.

Lol! Unless they make you reroll at level 11 every time this is exactly what I wanted from day 1. /xpoff twink to my hearts desire. I would play this game for nothing but nordenwatch! If they are smart, this plan will actually bring in a ton of paying customers in the long run. Lets say they have finally wizened up and they have plans in the works to make t3 and t4 not a load of garbage. It would make sense to have a slew of people already in the game to try and entice to pay again rather than trying to convince people who have already moved on to do so.  Turbine found out that they could get a lot more money into their pockets by letting people in for free, then letting them decide when it was time to pay for play.

I was about to write a lot of things - probably a wall text.. I'm a big fan of the IP, RPG from TT ...

Unfortunately, I will just resume to this: I left the game.

P.S. - I bought the whole CE - 80€ of it - currently not in mogwai asian Aion and never even been to cartonish lovely WoW.

My sub for WAR just ran out and I will not renew.  Simply because Mythic has been making all the wrong choises in improving the game.   Apprentice system ?  Possibly one of the worst ideas ever for this game.  Doesn't work in RVR - Pointless in very badly implemented PVE content.

I know what higher tiers bring and I have no intrest in playing those.  Tiers 1 and 2 are good fun.  Tier 3 is a total nightmare since there is usually only one faction dominating - litterally forcing the other faction to quit - causing even more unbalance.

I still like WAR and I have already make alot of trials account just to enjoy T1.  It can be played pretty much like FPS and can be quite enjoyable.  But I doubt it will get anyone to pay sub or even buy the game.  For that the higher tiers are just to unbalanced and Mythic is taking all the wrong choises to balance it.

See you in unlimited tier 1 !!!

    No money for you Mythic

I had the most fun in Tier 1. I would only play it if the scenario for Tier 1 is available. This game is not worth a monthly sub.

Play the best part of the game for free, forever!  That's kind of cool, because Tier 1 was the only thing good about that game and now it's free haha.

T1 was the most fun pvp this game has to offer. I played to t4 on 4 characters before quitting out of boredom.

T1 was indeed alot of fun, but get rid of the bloody mirror classes and add in something thats unique to each side, it's so god damn boring to come up against your alt on the other side, it adds nothing to the game and shows a total lack of creativity on Mythics part.

If they resolved the classes I'd come back, plus flesh out the PvE experience alot lot more aswell.

Oh and perhaps go with the original idea of more than just 2 factions fighting, that would have created alot more interesting battles than your standard WoW faction fights, even WoW could do with a 3rd waring faction to liven theings up in PvP.

You point out a decent criticism of the game, but you have to also consider the I.P.. Being based on the miniatures is the main reason behind such design, just as the shallow options in diverse looks per class. A witchhunter is a witchhunter so on and so forth.

It would be nice to have more options as is the norm in mmo gaming, however you have to stick to the roots of the i.p. you are drawing from. Mutilating the rules of WH, would be for the worst IMO.

Unfortunately this could be the best option to maintain this game, and i bet it would have alot of players that way.
    Look at DDO Mythic.

DDO is effectively a game that has had 6-7 years of development to refine its mistakes and overall gameplay.  The result is still a game that most people do not consider worthy of a subscription fee or retail purchase.  Giving the game away for free is what the game needed to get a revival of some unknown nature.  No one really knows if it has had a successful result yet.

Sadly mythic has only had about 1/2 of the time DDO has had to refine its gameplay and even making the game free might not have a beneficial effect on mythics revenues which is the desired effect.  Not to mention a cash shop would be difficult to work into a game that was designed to reward players for conquest, pvp and interaction with the game.

A cash shop would most likely compete with that and have a negative effect on the gameplay overall.

This looks to be a pretty smart move by mythic.

Keeping the low level area populated will give a good first impression.  Removing the 10 day limit encourages people to play as long as they like.  If they play a class for 7 days, many might not try another class if they only have 3 days left.  The hope being that eventually a player will find a class they fall in love with and sign up for the game.  The more classes people play and the longer they play I would think odds would go up they find something they enjoy.

I'm not sure this will change the T2-T4 experience where the problems of the game really kick in.

Every time one of my characters was getting close to level 12, I'd get sad because I was having so much fun in Tier 1 RvR and didn't want to leave it. Tier 2 had it's moments, but was decidedly less fun, and tier 3 is just more of the same, a chore.

So this is great, I can make a free trial account, and stay in Tier 1 as long as I please. Get every single character class to level 11 and own face with them. Get those hard to find helms and shoulders with sockets. Do PQs and get the other pairings Influence rewards without worrying about leveling out of the best part of the game.

I don't see how this helps Mythic, but I'm sure a number of players will enjoy this.

Yep I wished there was a way to simply turn off xp, and stick around in t1a little longer. I guess I won't even have to pay a sub to do that now lol.

I actually think this is a bad move tbh, I'd actually prefer to play war over bf2. Now that I can whenever for free in the most interesting and intense part of the game. Whats the point in paying for a sub? Hell, half of those that are in t4 simply roll alts just to keep playing in t1.

This could actually hurt them more than help them imo.

    Agreed.

I also hope they allow the unlimited trial accounts on open pvp servers. I had so much fun ganking with t1 witch elf. endless free entertainment! Woot!

I think that turbine model can work for Warhammer well but it means redeveloping the game (what means time and money).

I don't know how many ppl play War but during my trial I saw 2 (I left cause of this after 3 days),  so I think that their playerbase is

rather small in compare to other  p2p games. I also don't know how many subscribers are needed to keep the game live but I

think that no company will allow long term money looses. If War really went f2p (with some cash shop) it would be interesting,

roumors say that Turbine is preaparing LOTRO as f2p game. if it really happens WoW will loose some players (not many imo)

but such games as Alganon etc will be just crushed ...

    T1 forever?  Sign me up.

    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Yea I am sorry to jump of topic with this post but I also call B.S. I really believe LOTRO is doing pretty well for itself and turning a profit for Turbine. I mean. . . I play it on the occasion and there are always a very good amount of people on.

  • jawalijawali Member UncommonPosts: 195

Well, check this and I can tell you that this  rumor is not created by me...

One more time I will mention my suggestion, I played WAR from the day it released (and even beta before) and eventually gave up on it. Came back again under the 10-day trial and new patch, left again. The one thing this game has going for it is PvP. Scenarios to be exact. The real tabletop game is based on skirmishes and battles, so should the MMO. The PvE and RvR stuff was pretty lame, but the scenario are amazing.

I don't need free, but reduce the price to $5.99/mo. and make it all Scenarios. Everyone has all spells and items available and you get so many points to build your char up just like the game. It becomes all about strategy and not gear/level, which is what Warhammer players want. I know myself and tons of others who would come back for this.

This T1 concept is almost there, but they are still missing the big picture. I keep posting this in the hopes it actually reaches the eyes of someone who can make it happen. I currently play a private battleground-only WoW server just because it is as close to this concept as possible.

It's true, there is an interview with Steefel I linked a few times where he said he would like to go F2P. If you look through my post history (lol) you will eventually find the article.

IMHO, DDO was the test bed for this

I don't know if they are actually going to do it but they have talked pretty openly about the possibility.

My main is 40/40 which T4 overall is pretty uncompelling but I gotta say I do love T1. RR not matching up with regular ranks makes it sorta goofy and I wasn't digging it. I was working on collecting a conqueror set but it's never ending arms race you can never get ahead in.

I just canceled my sub but I might still jump in with this.
