What do People Play if They Don't Play WOW?

I'm curious. As a former WOW player who, like a crack addict, still feels the urge to reactivate my account, I realize I've been looking for a game to fill that hole in my heart. What do people play if they don't play WOW?

Please discuss.

I think they mostly just come here and complain.  Me, I'm trying out eq2 and lotro.  I like the style of Runes of Magic, but I'm not interested in the f2p model.

See Game list would I think answer your question at what other games people play if they not playing WOW that visit this website. And logical plenty of other games that arn't listed here.

Myself am currently enjoying Fallen Earth, but that wasn't your question.

I've played EvE since September '06.

I played Wow for about 2 hours once, and thought to myself: this is what we do when we're being punished in EvE. Never tried it again. Actually, about 6 months after I started playing EvE, I pretty much stopped playing any other games except Angband (that game works pretty well with mining or gatecamping). I don't even think of myself as a gamer any more.

I play Lost Saga, not on the list. But, if your looking for a game like WOW I'd try Perfect World.

Hello and welcome to one of the stranger corner of the internet. Hope you will enjoy your time here :)

And what to do you ask this fine community. The best thing you can do is to try every other mmo you find to see if it can fix your urge. Do like me and buy (or just try out) lotro, warhammer, eve, age of conan, vanguard, city of villains, fallen earth, linage 2, ddo, final fantasy XI, eq 2. And when you have seen that no other game will make you as happy as you were in wow you can always try the free to play mmos: atlantic onlne, runes of magic, requiem, perfect world, ether saga online, ultima online, ryzom, dragonica online, free realms...After this you can always try out wow once again and discover that the game is not what it used to be and then you will sit here with us other and bash others favorite game :)

    Welcome.

Depends what you like, you gave no info about your playstyle to really say. WoW is a decent game, even I played it for a couple of months at launch but definately wasn't the beginning nor the end of good MMO's.

My "usual" MMOs are WoW and EVE.

At times I get bored with WoW and try out new games. Most recently were Aion, Fallen Earth and Champions Online but I also enjoy single-player ARPG games like Oblivion, Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and Borderlands.

Sometimes I feel the urge to dabble in Civilization 4. I also have a PS3 and enjoy GTA4.

There's a ton of enjoyable games available, for a happy life I would suggest moderation and variety. No matter how much you enjoy a game, if you play it to excess you will burn out for a while. I've always found that by picking up whatever game appeals to me at the time, I don't hit the burnout stage.

As a sworn classic wow player that got disappointed from every big title ( AoC,WAR,Aion) I pretty much roam this forum and flame shitty games for being shitty.

World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.

If your getting bored with WoW, go ahead and try something different.  Completely different. I would suggest Guild Wars, it plays way differently than WoW.

I've been playing EVE Online since 2005, as well as my new addition Darkfall. Both great games. Darkfall is still new and needs some time to see how it will end up. EVE has been around since 2003 and has been nurtured into what I think is the best mmo on the market. Both of these games would be a ruff transition from WOW to say the least.

People seem to be really enjoying another new release called Fallen Earth. It's usually uncommon around this site to see a respectable reception for a game just after launch. You might want to check it out.

If you don't mind asian style art you should also look into AION. Though a good chunk of the population seems to get bored around level 25-30, and end up quitting.

Console games mostly.  No longer playing a lot of MMOs.  Occasionally when a new MMO comes out (recent ones I've tried include Champions Online, Aion, and Fallen Earth) I'll try them, but I quickly grow bored of them before my one month free subscription is up or beta is over.

Longest subscription times for me include:

    Everquest - 5 years

WoW - from beta on and off till early WotlK - my first subscription time lasted well over a year while my most recent one lasted about 2 months

Age of Conan - around 5 months

Final Fantasy XI - 3 or 4 months

Warhammer Online - about 3 months - would have been a lot shorter if it didn't take another month for the majority of people to catch up to me at max level, I wanted to see what the end game was like.

My playstyle is that of a power gamer and I'll typically level much faster than most people (I have several server first max level characters in various games) so if there isn't compelling end game content my subscription doesn't usually last too long.

I gave wow up along time ago to go back to EQ1 and more "classic" MMOs not that wow isnt a good game, but it was missing the challenge I wanted.

Now that im also done with EQ i find myself playing EvE TCoS and LOTRO, while none of these have the Difficulty of Say UO or EQ but are harder then WoW

But as others posted there is a long list of games here with advocates and naysays for each.  Search the list find something that looks promissing to you and give it a whirl who knows, you may find something you like much more then you ever liked wow

Thanks all for the responses and suggestions.  Torak's right, I didn't give any of my preferences really, or type of play style, but I've played WOW and also Eve consistantly in the past and enjoyed both; just had to make changes or move on for various reasons. Which is not to say that I won't go back to those games....

Actually I've played several mmo's over the years: played a little Everquest, and EQII, UO, AO, WOW, Eve....  In the past week, I've been trying some of the trials the major games have going, such as LOTR,  WAR, and Vanguard as well. Also trying Runes of Magic, which I believe someone suggested, but I don't think it's for me(don't care for the look personally).

I love EVE actually, but unfortunately got into some corp infighting which really turned me off, and also began to realize just how much of a time sink EVE is. Even more so that a more traditional mmo, in my opinion.

Anyway, I'll check out the games list, and some of the suggestions folks have posted here(very much appreciated). I basically wanted to get a feel for WOW alternatives out there and the general opinion on them.

If you like exploring and PVE, LOTRO is a good option. I just started but have so far found it the only game that I think has the true depth of things to do that WOW offers, only in a different setting.

If you're a big PVPer, you might want to give WAR a try, as it's also very similar to WOW in terms of PVP.

Unfortunately, both games are completely lacking in certain key areas. LOTRO doesn't have a robust PVP system, and WAR 's PVE absolutely sucks.

I've played nearly everything out there

Currently I'm enjoying the Free Play DDO, since its experience is very different than what I've been used to.  I won't say its the bee's knees or anything.  Thats REALLY subjective.  I will say I love it.

I'd explore F2P games personally.  For instance, Atlantica is a solid title...different than any MMO you've played for sure.  Perfect World has some very strong points as well.  Luna was pretty cool for a chibi-styled game.  Rappelz was actually really fun from what I could remember of it (back then my PC was suck and crashed in combat for no reason).

I dunno man, theres a lot of good out there.  I do recommend something VERY different.  My "try this" list would go:

    DDO

    COH

    CO

    DF

    FE

TF2, Haven & Hearth, a little Borderlands, League of Legends, a little EVE (can't really get into it; doesn't feel like there's much game there to me.)

Fallout 3 is great, gonna get Borderlands and am currently playing Darkfall.

Might try WoW again with the whole revamp thing but I don't like paying for many expansions but whatevs.

I'm playing Fallout 3, Batman: Arkham Asylum on the 360, and Torchlight.  Taking a break from MMOs for a bit, and it's nice having objectives other than 'bring me X amount of Y animal parts'.
