So many of you are ignorant. Yes there are guys who play female characters, and they usually do it for perverted means or to be malicious. There are also lots of girls who enjoy MMO's as well. Let's not forget not everyone is the same, and there are MANY problems people can have. Some people have Gender Identity Disorder which is very serious and sometimes their only solace is to live online.

These people are girls or boys who may not look the way you want them too, or they want too. They are female or they are male.

It's easy for you to judge other people who live like this, because you don't have a problem. All they want to do is live normally as they feel. MMO's are a wonderful place for people with all kinds of problems in what we refer to as "Real Life". The problem is reality is everything. MMO's aren't a dream or a movie, the people playing those avatars are real.

You should never assume someone's gender based on your own personal bias. Not only is it hurtful for a girl to be assumed to be a male and then you pressure her into proving it with your nasty little "show me your nudes" or "give me your cell phone" comments. Not everyone is comfortable with talking to people over voice chat. I for one hate it for many reasons.

So many of you are sick yourself, looking to date in a MMO. Seriously, if your so concerned with other people, then go live in your "Real Life". Go date someone you are certain of.  But don't go around judging people and making people feel horrible about their only options.

If someone in a game is REALLY male. Meaning that are Gay or Straight have no problem with their gender and are just playing a female character, it's usually easy to tell and they aren't going to go out of their way to tell you their female.

If someone is a really female, then they will tell you. If someone tells you they are a girl then that's what they are. As long as they aren't going out of their way to scam you out of items then really what is the problem?

I hate how sick minded and judging out society is. Always looking to put down other people, when they have imperfections we don't. Always looking for a reason to say "I'm so much better than that person."

I think this poster proves the last poster's point. People like this are sick >_>

I wouldn't mind China's rule so much, since I am female, but I can see how it would hurt some people greatly. I don't think males should play females to fufill their perverted desires. If your truly male inside and out play a male character.

    I agree with this.

Also real females don't like to be harassed either. No one goes around calling male characters "she". It's really inconsiderate.

Treat people the way they present themselves to you. No one is forcing you to be their friend.

But blind rejection is generally more popular among that population.

I agree! And if you are really an Elf inside and out, you MUST play an Elf! And if you are really Troll inside and out, you mUST play a Troll! And, if you are really a Spaceship inside and out, you MUST play EVE! And... Well you get the idea, you're being silly. It's a game, not a dating service.

But, I guess if the game is your dating service you're going to be upset that your prospective "dates" are misrepresenting themselves. However, there's a very easy solution for this.

Use Match.com  or Eharmony for dating, use an MMORPG to play a game.

Also, what if you're a FAT GIRL! you MUST play a FAT charactert!

What if you are an UGLY GIRL! You MUST play an UGLY character! Anything else would  be fraud, right? Or the only fraud you care about is males that are female, and it's OK for a fat girl to play a skinny character that doesn't really look like her?

Oh, and what if you are like over 60 years old! You MUST play an OLD character, not a hot young girl! Right?

I played a female main once... about 4 years ago.

I would never do it again.

I just felt stupid getting on vent with a deep voice and a flatbelly for a toon.  Since then, I also have become less understanding towards others that play as female and prefer hanging out only with dudes that play dudes.

It's a transcendence thing moreso than a culturally derived imposition.  Unless the guy is gay.  In which case, no harm no foul.

This is yet another pathetic attempt for Chinese developers to market their games to draw in more players: "Look! We have more female players than <insert game>!" Like many have said, online gaming is making the slow turn in the direction of online socializing/dating/penpaling.

Soon you'll see western MMOs that link facebook, twitter and other social networking sites to your avatars in-game. The day this happens will be the day MMO players will have no choice but to "own up" to the ignorant behaviors that were once the norm in the past and their "records" will follow them where ever they choose to to try to hide. Privacy online will be very hard to protect.

This is why EVERYONE should be offended by this Chinese revelation. Games are about detaching from real world stipulations and enjoying one's self. I could say that male gamers make female avatars for the same reasons that they give their bikes and cars female names. Or why some female players that aren't the most desirable types in the real world relish in the notion that true female gamers are stoked and fawned over at a higher rate than they would be otherwise.

Some players are able to maintain that detachment and some have a hard enough time leaving their yearnings at the door. And what I see here is a LOT of yearnings from both female and male gamers that are directed at the wrong outlet.

A gay player wouldn't want to be seen as a female. Like you they are male and happy to be so.

The problem with males playing female characters is that it uncomfortable for females who play. What if you were called she all the time even though your a male? Or better yet  assumed you were gay. Since I'm sure that would hurt you more. But it's the same concept. Would you really not feel hurt a little? What if people made you prove your gender or sexuality to them, just so you could play a game? "Oh you say your male? Your not gay? I don't believe you, why not show me your private areas,  or use services you may be uncomfortable with or unwilling to use." "Or go engage in some sexual act and tape it." "Oh you can't? "Guess your gay" That sounds like a joy, right?

People  with gender issues are also extremely hurt by this behavior. They just want to be seen and accepted the way they feel, and if  a MMO let's them represent themselves this way, then what is the problem? The real problem would be them playing male characters.

So when you see a character, assume it's the gender it chose, your not playing MMO's to date right? I really hope not. Even so, it's not like it's hard to tell if someone is really male or female. Female and Male personalities are different. If they are just a male playing a female character for perverted reasons they will usually tell you so.

When you call a girl a he your being extremely rude and inconsiderate. Think how you'd feel if that was you.

on topic, im not surprised. china is a shit hole. not only are they turning their own country into a pile of concrete, but they have no problems abusing the privacy of its people.
Like conan o'brian once joked on his late night show. on china he had to say: " China: if you're gonna get arrested, might as well be for no reason." Right he was.

Do you even know what transcendence means?  Why don't you try defining that before deciphering a level of language you will never obtain?

You have to start with addition to get to multiplication.  You can't define the sentance without contexting and defining the words.

Or here, let me help you:

    IT MEANS TO MATURE.

Here, let me even SITE A REFRENCE FOR YOU (that you won't take the time to read):

It's the whole book in google!  Have fun.

One of the leaders in the first guild I ever joined was a dude that played a female character.  I guess I'm just used to it, it doesn't bother me one bit.

I'm not here to complete my forum PVP dailies.
