Ok, I got to finally do some serious playing this weekend and there a few things that just are starting to grate me with EQ II. I am not saying they grate me to the degree of "I quit", just that they are getting annoying.
The first is the group experience penalty, what were they thinking? Talking about shocking people into not grouping anymore, that will do it. I got in group with a few bad healers and some idiots and racked up a nice 100% experience debt in about 30 minutes before I finally gave up on organizing them and trying to get the healers to understand to HEAL the tank and not BE the tank. By that time everyone just left, no one wanted to deal with this anymore because we had 2 idiots that just kept dieing over and over on the same mob running back to BB from Jaegars camp. They really need to fix this issue, the game is group dependant to really experience this, and this is doing nothing but hindering grouping to me.
The other is how EQ II handles instancing. I don't care for it, everytime you zone somewhere you have to pick an instance and then you have to keep track of what instance you need to return too to get bodies or telling new group members when coming to you. I think EQ II got alittle instance happy. I have not seen nowhere near the numbers of players on that many have stated, but I am on Lavastorm, a relatively new server. I like that many zoned are instanced, especially dungeons, but I think they got abit carried away with it, and its far from a seamless system, its abit clunky and manual.
Other then that and the fact that I have yet to figure out how everyone makes enough money to keep their armor current I have been having a blast. It seems to me though that the economy is abit salty at the moment. I haven't messed with crafting much, I honestly didn't intend to start that with my first character for some time but at the moment it almost seems like I am going to have too if I want to stay afloat. Also, can anyone tell me what kind of armor I should be looking for as a 14 brawler, I plan to go Monk at 20, very excited bout getting there. Right now I am wearing a hodgepodge of bought and quested armor peices, some are still the stuff from isle of refuge, only a few peices though.
Overall I am having a very good time playing, I finally took a break from questing and starting to hit blackburrow around level 12, the quests start getting abit harder to find at that level, if you want challenging ones. I plan to starting exploring antonica more for quests in there soon, atm its still abit hard to move around in there, the gnolls work me over abit yet. Is anyone else feeling like me on those 2 main things though?

For armor quest quest quest , i recomend just squeeking by untill 20 though, at 20 start doing your Armor quest, very nice armor
and yep, group exp debt sucks.
Yep group exp debt has been a hot debate right from beta.
Like you stated some idiots in group= loads of debts.
But the argument from tanks espically was that they should not share the burden alone because of a healer .
So both sides have a good argument really and i think they should have made it an optional feature. But then again most but tanks will demand it to be off which defeats the tank view on group debt.
Instances.A while ago EQ2 was suppose to be seamless but as they made the world more detailed they declared it was not possible.
In beta for a long time an issue was lag in antontica and crashing. The devs were determined to keep that zone to one instance and hold over 1k people. They did numerous trials and even brought in specialist(was posted even in beta forum) to try and see if the zone could hold that many never could.
In the end i believe the number was 350 it could hold stable or somewhere near that. Thus they had to instance it.
Same applies to other zones they have a number in which it can't take anymore.Like i know vermin syne in beta lagged horribly once the list hit that 100 name cap.
Its annoying but I know for a fact in beta they really pushed it so many zones never have more then one instance. But did not work out.
I can see the tanks complaint but honestly, after a few screw ups the healers get a warning and if they don't get their act together most groups will just do away with them and find someone else. All this way is doing is costing the ENTIRE group to suffer for a bad healer. I had a druid and a cleric in my group and yet I couldnt get a heal most the time while I was tanking. I would say something about it and they would say they were out of power from fighting.
I understand what they were trying to fix but this is the wrong way to handle it, completely.
I had a hunch a instancing was put in as a bandaid to fix something, I could tell by how it worked, it didn't seem part of the flow of things the way they have it in. Another thing I also noticed that obviously was not the way it was designed is when you choose your city. Its real obvious originally you chose your city just before leaving the island of refuge and they changed it later on so that it was completely linear. That is the only explanation for the one choice questions you get asked several times through that whole sequence and also because the isle of refuge serves both cities. They say so towards the end before you go if you talk to the head guy. So if it was the way it is now from conception they really missed the ball on that. You should choose your city right when you are ready to leave the isle of refuge OR by the way you answer questions and handle the quests all through the isle of refuge before you go.

im pretty sure the group leader gets an option of whether to share the exp debt or individual debt, or at least i thought there was...
Children In Back Seats Cause Accidents. Accidents In Back Seats Cause Children.
is there? I didnt see that in the options, I will have to look again. If so that is getting shut off when I form the group and I will ask ahead of time before joining one if it is on.

im not certain about it, but it wouldnt hurt you to look. i saw it in an "ask SOE", i would just ask around and see if anyone knows how, and if you cant then they should add it.
Children In Back Seats Cause Accidents. Accidents In Back Seats Cause Children.
Nope no such option
Your group would have to wipe some where of about 8 full times to get 100% debt , unless you where not getting your shards back.
Anything past 15% in a pick up group and I'll state my "Mommy's calling me" gotta go.
It's just not worth a bad group.
(BTW No one will call you on "Mommy's calling me" , even if your in your thirties)
No, not 8 full times for the group, but some of the other members easily hit that and perhaps passed it, after finally getting my last shard well after I was out of that group I was down to about 65%.

Your corpse will be in whatever instance you are in, or all of them rather.
What annoys me with instancing is that it do not always work, Enchanted lands for example make you able to choose between enchanted land OR enchanted lands, wichever you choose you will end up in the same, EL is practically unplayable with 5 secs+ delay on spells at times. And I am indeed a healer and even though I have very few deaths on my consience, I have a few thats on SoE's consience and I really hate to take crap for things out of my control.

The 2 healers I had in my group were obviously new to EQ. If they had played EQ 1 they would have known better then to play the way they did. I don't consider them the typical healer out there. But they cost the group alot regardless.

This is a very group dependant game. People need to learn how to do well in a group. If I'm leader of a group and someone is causing more harm than help, first I try a couple of times to help them a long, if they don't seem to be getting it, I say sorry it's not working out, and boot them. If I'm not the leader I still try to help people see what they need to do, if they can't or won't I leave.
XP debt isn't that big of a deal really. It's one of the main reasons I have two main characters. If I get XP debt on one I use the other until it goes away with time (over time the debt is slowly reduced even if you don't log in). If I get debt on both I start crafting.
really? I didnt know it would go away over time. Hmm, good. I don't mind it if I can just hop into another good group, it comes off fairly fast, but I still don't feel its the best solution for the problem. Grouping was very strong in EQ 1, that was one thing I noted about it when I started playing Camelot. Camelot players at low level would just drop out of group in a heartbeat if there was a death or 2. Thats how I feel EQ 2 is gonna be due to the penalties. Its not alot of incentive to help people learn, its more an incentive to get them out of the group to me.
