Try out EVE online. Or if sci-fi isnt your thing, try out UO. Dont give me crap how "UO is so old"... you either have a crappy new game or a decent/good old one.

I would say SWG. Still has some of the best graphics of the genre, It's a roleplayers goldmine, and it's very immersive. But this all means nothing if you can't stand sci-fi or star wars. If you do go this route join the Kettmoore server, it's the "unofficial" roleplaying server.

EQ2 would be a good second choice. Anarchy Online probably has the best community, I went to one of the night clubs in the game and there was tons of people and they had a live DJ (was a streaming broadcast)

I know a lot about Anarchy Online so if you have any questions fire away.

Why don't you just try some of these games out and figure it out for yourself? It's ridiculous to assume anyone else except friends you implicitly know and trust can figure out what you mean.

Do you enjoy being forced to group in order to do *anything* significant?  Do you enjoy relying on other people in order to advance?  If so, try EQ2.

However, keep in mind the game is truly fantastic up to Level 20; after that, see the questions above.  Once the "carrot" of your sub-sub-class (ie Level 20) has been reached, you literally hit what I can only describe as a "brick wall."  Everything becomes a pointless, mindless grind after that.  You CAN solo, but it is extremely boring: stay in one area and camp the same mob over and over (however, you get money easier solo because YOU get ALL the loot; the random loot method in grouping will leave you broke).

To do anything significant (equipment upgrades you can actually use, Zone access) you MUST group. Period.  The group MUST have a healer.  Period.  If someone *else* dies, you share the experience debt--even if YOU lived.  This *generally* results in the group disbanding, adding to the frustration.  All of this is in addition to the difficulty of finding groups in other similar games.  In a nutshell, grouping is difficult after 20.

About the only way you will enjoy EQ2 is to join a guild and/or friends, and stay within 5 levels of each other (someone MUST be a healer, and someone MUST be a tank).  Pickups groups are a total, utter, and complete joke in EQ2.  The real kicker is, IF you have a balanced group of people who DON'T suck, the game is extremely easy.

Your experience may vary, but after Level 20, the game is really pointless.  This wouldn't be so bad if it was FUN, but it isn't.  It also wouldn't be so bad if grouping were easy, but it isn't.  Finally, it wouldn't be so bad if the *extremes* of gameplay weren't so blatant: good group = stupid easy -- average (or below) group = stupid hard (or all kinds of downtime at the very least).

EQ2 just doesn't have a very good balance of fun vs. difficulty, and when the major carrots of advancement are met (ie class at 20), it becomes a rather pointless, and very boring, group-required grind.  Some people like that, however.  Ultimately, you'll have to play for yourself.

On another note, I'm considering trying out WoW; can someone who has played it for awhile give a similar review to what I wrote here?  Is the same experience found in WoW in your opinion?  I've all but given up entirely on MMOs.
