Kind of Ironic (Classes)

This isn't meant to be a flame or to stir up sour feelings that so many people still have for SWG...But you have to admit this is somewhat funny. Think of all of the classes that people (NOT ALL) are drooling over TOR. Saying it's the best thing since sliced bread. Now I understand gameplay wise the mechanics will be different, but the foundation is really the same as the "Iconic" classes in SWG. Think of it, Republic Trooper is basically a commando, the newly released Imperial Agent is just a spy, etc.

It's just funny that people who have demonized SWG for going to these classes are (possibly) the same people who praise Bioware for doing the same exact thing. I say bring on the Entertainer!

Yes, because SWG started out the way it is today.....

Interesting, so if Bioware made these classes, then down the road switched to 32 classes like classic SWG, then would there be the same response?

Yes.  That's basically what it boils down to.  SWG was one way then SOE pulled a 180 with the NGE.  What they did wasn't as simple as say a nerf.  Classes were dropped, others that remained were watered down.  A fairly open skill system got pigeon holed into a class based system.  Whether it was good or bad, is only part of the problem.  You just don't do that to your fanbase.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Not at all, SWG went from 32 classes to 9, which is a huge change in what it use to be. Having 32 classes from start and dropping 23 of those which all had a good portion of the player base playing would cause a huge uproar. Adding more classes to those 9 classes wouldn't really piss anybody off, unless you know somebody that doesn't like games expanding.

People are not pissed because of the current classes, they're mad because they probably played those other 23 classes that were cut or don't like the current combat along with a  complete list of other things that were changed.

Also you know what to expect from ToR, 8 classes, 4 to each side. So if they're praising the current classes it's because it matched there expectation with the game, I'm sure nobody expected SWG to drop 23 classes.

I understand what you're saying, and like I said I'm not trying to start a flame war. I'm just pointing out that the classes that got such a bad rap in SWG are being praised in TOR.

I know there is bad blood between a demographic population of SWG and SOE, but that is not what I am getting at. I am saying that they are building the game a least class wise pretty much on top of what SWG has now. A spiritual successor if you will.

I will say from a biased opinion that I think that maybe some or most of the people that quit SWG aren't so pissed about the changes themselves, but the fact that the changes happened. But I am not here to argue that. I more want to know about what people think of the similarities between the classes on the two games. Why is it good hype in TOR while it tanked in SWG (besides the NGE). That's really it.

I see it on a different level of acceptance, might sound silly, to me it does not.

I don't see this as a bad thing if this is true. SWG was never meant to be the game it is today. ToR is being built to support this type of gameplay, later on if they alter the combat and start dropping classes I'll reconsider my point of view. Until then, they can mimic the classes, all I care about is a working enjoyable game.

This shouldn't be hard to understand unless you didn't actually play SWG. Really is it worth caring about? Everybody has their reasons in leaving SWG, some forgive and forget, most remain angry and loud. I think you may be looking to much into it.

The more accurate question would be, if BioWare decided to cut all the classes except Jedi and Sith 18? months after launch, would people get the same result.

If you had $1,000 and I took away $900, you'd be pissed. But if you had nothing, you'd be happy if I gave you $100.

It's $100 ... why are the $1000 people making such a big fuss? It's the same $100 that the other people have, they should be happy with their $100.
