Hey all, haven't posted here in a long while. I noticed my rating went from 4 stars to half a star in my absence. Does rating decay now? It really doesn't matter, it just confused me when I saw it Thanks in advance (and sorry if this topic doesn't belong in general... I wasn't sure where to put it; mods feel free to move it if needed).

Yeh sometimes when im inactive mine drops, really never figured out how the rating system works...some people with one post have 2 stars while others with 1k posts have 1.
No idea how the system works, only thing that I noticed is new members gets to 2 stars with only 1-5 posts
Ok, thanks

The rating i belive is based largely on the following things.
1. Content of Post - as in is it relivent to the topic, and is it more than just copy and past.
2. The language used - Profanity trolling flaming all can go against you while constructive posting does the oposite.
3. Frequency of visits - you some poins for just ligging on and not posting [but not many points and there is a cap].
4. Frequency of Posts - The more you post good well structured constructive posts the better your star rank gets.
It is also worth noting that you points fade over time so if there is a period where you have not visited or made a few posts then your score will go down. I must add tho that most here consider the star rating system as largely irrelivent.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
