my favorite game got cancelled pls help

Hello,

The Matrix Online had everything I ever wanted in a game. The community was great. People in the game were nicer and more friendly than in any other game i've ever tried. Even my "enemies" were honorable and kinda fun to be around. I enjoyed the player-hosted parties with live DJs that took place in the many nightclubs in Megacity. I usually hate pvp in games but in the matrix even I was kinda addicted to it. Maybe it was the people or it could have been the way the figthing worked that made it fun (I think a little of both).  Anyway, it was cancelled and now I'm here. Can you help me?

What i want is another Matrix-like game with the same kind of cyberpunk feel to it. There has to be a good, friendly and honerable community.  A big city atmosphere with nice clothes, guns, martial arts and nightclub parties would also be nice.

I don't want a game where you're stuck with a profession for the whole game. Being able to visit a nearby hardline and swap out skills to make a unique loadout was one of the best things about MXO. Another thing i don't want is to play one of those fantasy games with all the oversized, ugly swords and really big tacky-looking shoulderpads. Elves, dwarves and orcs are not good for me.

I like games with a normal (or normal-ish) interface. Please don't make me have to do the aiming myself or have to find my next skill in a series of menus. It has to be easy like push a button and it goes. I hated the way the controls worked in Starwars Galaxies. It was way to "clicky" for me. FFXI was also hard to use because of the controls.

What i really want is to have MXO and all the people I met there back. Since I can't have that i ask for help finding the next best thing.  It would be especially helpful if any other former MXO players could tell me what they are playing now and why.  Maybe then I can find my new online home :)

I never played MxO but games like

    Neocron 2 - http://ng.neocron.com/

    and

    Face of Makind - http://www.fomportal.com/

follow in the same vein, except both have twitch-based FPS-style combat.

I wasn't expecting such a quick reply.  That FPS-like fighting isnt what I was looking for but I suppose it could be okay if the game has a really good and friendly community. For me, the people really make the game worth playing.

    thanks for the suggestion!

I'm still open to other suggestions if anyone else has any :)

I've been told Neocron has a great, mature community and it's also a cyberpunk game that looks much like the more mature version of the Matrix. It is a pain to get an account though, seeing as the overseeing company of the company running went under but it's free monthly once you get an account set up for that same reason.

Face of Mankind is just a sort of sci-fi shooter game that's completely player run. It's not quite anything close to the Matrix but in terms of other MMOs, it would be a good place to start. I've witnessed firsthand that the community is great and OB is just around the corner =]

As another former MxO player, I understand completely what you're going through. There isn't a game out there that gives me the same feeling I had in the Matrix. You're not alone. I'm looking for the same thing you are.

There is nothing out there right now like that. Most games are either too futuristic sci-fi or too fantasy. However, Funcom's "Secret World" looks pretty good but it is still in development. I won't even suggest SOE's "The Agency" since you're probably like me and want nothing more to do with SOE after how they killed our game.

I take it World of Warcraft is out of the question lol. Seriously, I'm sick to death of fantasy settings too.

I believe that in a RPG it should be your character's stats and skills that determine the outcome of fights and not the player's actual twitch skill. I know that's an oldschool way of thinking but that's why I'm opposed to these newer twitch-based MMO interfaces. MxO's combat interface was still fast and fun without the need for such gimmicks as FPS aiming to "spice up" MMO combat. I loved it.
The previous two suggestions are both MMOFPS games with a futuristic sci-fi setting. you can try them if you want but I'll pass.
Ofcorse I mean no disrespect to the previous poster or those who like MMOFPS games. If that's your thing so be it. I'm just sayin' I don't like it cause it conflicts with my philosophy.

I'm not playing anything right now. Like you I'm still looking for another game. I'm keeping my eye on the progress of Secret World since it looked promising. Also, there are MxO emulator projects out there. With a little luck we could see a private server in the future.

well, there's my first post. I was going to make my own but you pretty much want the same thing I do. Hopefully we can find what we're looking for :)

Thank you all for your replies so far

to nimrod412: You mentioned a game called Secret World. Do you have a link to the website for it? Does it have a beta yet? Any information about it would be helpful.

MXO emulators? I looked into a few different projects. The one that has made the most progress that I have seen is still at least six months away from being finished. There is still hope for playing MXO again and I am happy for that :)

    to everyone:

Is there any game similar to what I want that doesn't have fps aiming? So to clarify what i'm looking for, the community and interface in the game is the most important to me. Setting is not as important but I don't see myself fitting into the usual fantasy setting with all the elves and orcs. If you know of anything you think I might like please let me know. Thanks

Ah, so you were one of the 12 people who played that game till the end? :P

What he said (thanks Kaisen btw). Sorry for not posting the links. I've not been able to find out what kind of interface Secret World will have yet. We will have to wait and see.

@ x3rx3s - This is hardly the place for such inapropriate comments. So what if there were only a few people left at the end after how SOE drove the game into the ground? The fact remains that there are people who did like the game and would like to find a new one that is similar yet not nearly as poorly run as MXO unfortunately was.

I was under the impression that Secret World was adapting a twitch-based style too and he was asking for a game without it after I mentioned Neocron and Face of Mankind.

I really feel your pain about SOE driving your game into the ground.  I'm currently playing Vanguard, and other than the fact it has a fantasy settings (no huge ugly shoulderpads) it has pretty much the same characteristics.  Smaller tight knit community, great amazing game that is unfortunate to be owned by SOE.

On the bright side, the dev's that are working on Vanguard are very motivated and new content is being worked on and developed.  I was floating around the MMO wastelands after trying out the crap that was AION.  I settled with VG mostly due to the great community I found here.  I've already made more friends in VG than I ever made in my last 5 mmo's combined.

**as far as secret world goes.   I don't think they have really released much as to how the gameplay will be.  I would be interested to see any links you do find though.**
